@Lighter Yep. JanKris, Cycles and Kunde early on were all at the wrong end of the scale in my opinion. That said, it’s possible the’ve made improvements, or got new ownership/new winemaker/new vines??? Something needed to change, no doubt.
@vaaccess I think that in those early days - one offering a week - wineries didn’t know what to make of woot wine. And didn’t put their “good” stuff on the line. I’d guess that winedavid had to do some serious arm twisting to come up with those early offerings.

I’m on board the Slingshot train. I tried to sing Alison at a karaoke bar for the first time when we were in Chicago last month. Thankfully jmdavidson and karenhynes weren’t around for that debacle.
And here I was trying to find a catcher that had a nickname of Postman (il Postino). Then I thought it might be a Fresno State catcher. There’s a Ward who went to the Angels, but the Ward Johnson Winery in Seattle looks small.
There was also a Wynns at FSU. And there’s a Wynns Coonawarra Estate winery. So maybe one of the importers?

Arnie Esterer of Markko Vineyards in Conneaut, OH is 85 but I know that’s not it. Just got me to thinking about the time Clark Smith stopped in Cleveland while doing an Amtrak book tour for Postmodern Winemaking. He did a private tasting for us (which included his Roman Reserve Cab Franc a full 2 years before it was released) then we hung out with him again the following day as he visited Arnie at Markko Vineyards. Arnie and his late partner were disciples of Dr. Konstantin Frank who first brought vinifera grapes to New York’s Finger Lakes in the 1950s or 60s. After tasting with Arnie for awhile, we all trekked over to M Cellars to visit with Ohio’s vinifera torch-bearer Matt Meineke. The winery was closed to the public that day so we had the place to ourselves to taste most of the wines, including barrel samples. Clark also played some guitar and sang for us while Arnie hummed along. Good times…

Mixed cases of woot cellars wines would be out of the question for multitudes of reasons, don’t see Cohn, but some of the wooter favs for sure, although not sure if Peter has anything left (perhaps cases of Chard!). I could see Scott, perhaps TO, Pedroncelli easily, perhaps a casemate labeled wine?
@bsevern early on in the kickstarter, WD did mention he was getting the old band back together; I took that to mean some of the original people involved with pre-mothership ww, many that are now here at meh and instrumental with this phoenix we’re awaiting in ~3+ hours.

We make our signature red blend “Persistence” from this vineyard which is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, 8% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot.

…and a good “get”. Too many negative reviews on those Chaucer Meads that used to be offered on WW, so I never bought any despite liking Mead. Also, I have a go-to Ohio brand that is generally enough to satisfy my occasional cravings for Mead - but I have a good feeling about Hidden Legend and look forward to trying these!

Should not have been so quick to assume Malbec, especially since I was just reading an article in Wine Enthusiast about how winemakers in Argentina are expanding their offerings of both reds and whites.
A trip to Argentinian wine country is definitely on my bucket list.

The only other wineries I can think of that fit and could be called “favorites” are Ty Caton because “Ty”, Leoni Farms because they have a big cat on their labels (although I presumed it to be a mountain lion), or Hahn Estates because they have a rooster on their label which is also the symbol for Kellogg’s who makes Frosted Flakes.

Old World Winery also made an orange Pinot Gris sold on WW (think I still have one) but that would not qualify as “one of our favorites” as per the clue. Don & Sons would though, so you might be on to something. Still, I am sticking with my WineSmith guess…

If WineDavid’s clue is Colonel Mustard in the library with a revolver, that may be a reference to Steven Millhauser short stories in the Barnum Museum. He describes a bottle of wine a quarter filled and it’s label is a grape arbor with three purple birds overhead and also describes a wine glass with the legend “Brotherhood: America’s oldest winery.” We can go two ways here, the first is the Brotherhood winery in the Hudson valley of New York, or Scott Harvey, the oldest deeded vineyard in the state of California. No more obtuse then “Invisible” as a clue leading to Jimmy Stewart, WDs favorite actor starring in the movie Harvey, which was a clue for Scott Harvey. So I really hope that Colonel mustard in the library was in fact Wine David’s clue. Will find out tomorrow whether it’s winner winner chicken dinner or try again next time.

Although Deaver Vineyards has an Almond Sparkling wine from Shenandoah Valley. Grape growers for over 150 years.
But LVVR Sparkling Cellars in Lodi was one of the 10 hottest brands in 2016 and is the (or was at the time) only méthode champenoise producers locally.
Most likely is Deaver Vineyards, since a majority of Zin grapes are “Deaver clones”.
Edit: I would have said Twisted Oak, but they don’t have a sparkling wine. Or is that extraneous?

I think we might be reading too much into what was likely a typing issue. Greg Martellotto is a wine importer as well as a winemaker. I don’t see any connection to the HA CL capitalization. I didn’t spend much time on it but was thinking of the Treasure Hunter guy, Hunter Vogle. I think he is more of a negociant than an importer though, ala Cameron Hughes.
I am sitting on a couple 2010 Martellotto Cabernet Sauvignon M Spring Mountain Cabs that I got from wine.woot in '13 and also still have 1 bottle of Piro Piro Piccolo Pinot Grigio which was a Martelloto offering.
CT has not been kind to the Cab. Surprising for Spring Mt. fruit but I will wait on them until 2020+ to make sure they are out of any possible dumb phase.

I actually considered that Scott Harvey was German-educated but the fact that his Rieslings are under the Jana label threw me off. I did think about the Angel Eis for a second after discounting the regular Riesling but I just wasn’t confident that I was on the right path…

In January 2002, New Line began recalling all promotional materials for Goldmember after MGM sent a cease-and-desist order stating that New Line was attempting to make money off of their James Bond franchise.
The lawsuit was settled in April, just three months ahead of the film’s release, with New Line telling CNN that “as part of the agreement to allow use of the ‘Goldmember’ title, all future titles that may be construed as parodies of James Bond will be subject to MGM’s approval.”

This vineyard is named “Southwind” … the name with which our ship “Cadaretta” was re-christened when it was conscripted for military duty in World War II.
This is so weird and frustrating … I could have sworn I posted it was either Dusted Valley or Cadaretta! More Cadaretta because they had been on WW last.
Googled: “southwind vineyard sourced”. Well, first without the “sourced” part.
List showed Cadaretta 5th & 7th, with Dusted Valley 8th. Both listed Southwind Vineyard as a source, looking at their vineyards.
Then googled Cadaretta with Wine.Woot, and 3rd was their 2011 Cadaretta Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 4-Pack, sold by Middleton Family WInes on WW in Aug 2016.
Dusted Valley was in April on WW, so decided Cadaretta was the more likely (being Middleton and the more recent), so I swear I had posted something about it possibly being DV but more “Cadaretta Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, by Middleton Family WInes, 2013 or 2014 this time”.
And no one had posted anything yet! I guess I hadn’t hit the “Say it” button on my tablet. And didn’t check again, because I was with my family and was getting dinner. Oh well, C’est la vie.

To be sure, decade-old Alysian Wines is filled with great pedigree, having been founded by Woody’s grandfather Bill Hambrecht and Gary Farrell in 2006. Both these iconic wine figures were steeped in success, Hembrecht with Ridge Vineyards and Belvedere Vineyards and Winery and Farrell with Davis Bynum Winery, Rochioli Winery and Limerick Lane in addition to his own Gary Farrell Vineyards and Winery.
When both veterans decided to retire in 2013, grandson Woody Hambrecht took over the reins at Alysian Wines and slowly began to change the direction of the smallish Russian River Valley winery.

Arnie Esterer of Markko Vineyards in Conneaut, OH is 85 but I know that’s not it. Just got me to thinking about the time Clark Smith stopped in Cleveland while doing an Amtrak book tour for Postmodern Winemaking. He did a private tasting for us (which included his Roman Reserve Cab Franc a full 2 years before it was released) then we hung out with him again the following day as he visited Arnie at Markko Vineyards. Arnie and his late partner were disciples of Dr. Konstantin Frank who first brought vinifera grapes to New York’s Finger Lakes in the 1950s or 60s. After tasting with Arnie for awhile, we all trekked over to M Cellars to visit with Ohio’s vinifera torch-bearer Matt Meineke. The winery was closed to the public that day so we had the place to ourselves to taste most of the wines, including barrel samples. Clark also played some guitar and sang for us while Arnie hummed along. Good times…

At this late stage, with no clue, and with the effort put in to my analysis of an apparent non- clue, I would hope WD feels somewhat pressured into either of the options offered. So which is it WD, Brotherhood or Scott Harvey?
Band back together eh? Mixed cases of woot cellars wines would be out of the question for multitudes of reasons, don’t see Cohn, but some of the wooter favs for sure, although not sure if Peter has anything left (perhaps cases of Chard!). I could see Scott, perhaps TO, Pedroncelli easily, perhaps a casemate labeled wine?
@bsevern early on in the kickstarter, WD did mention he was getting the old band back together; I took that to mean some of the original people involved with pre-mothership ww, many that are now here at meh and instrumental with this phoenix we’re awaiting in ~3+ hours.

The only other wineries I can think of that fit and could be called “favorites” are Ty Caton because “Ty”, Leoni Farms because they have a big cat on their labels (although I presumed it to be a mountain lion), or Hahn Estates because they have a rooster on their label which is also the symbol for Kellogg’s who makes Frosted Flakes.

If WineDavid’s clue is Colonel Mustard in the library with a revolver, that may be a reference to Steven Millhauser short stories in the Barnum Museum. He describes a bottle of wine a quarter filled and it’s label is a grape arbor with three purple birds overhead and also describes a wine glass with the legend “Brotherhood: America’s oldest winery.” We can go two ways here, the first is the Brotherhood winery in the Hudson valley of New York, or Scott Harvey, the oldest deeded vineyard in the state of California. No more obtuse then “Invisible” as a clue leading to Jimmy Stewart, WDs favorite actor starring in the movie Harvey, which was a clue for Scott Harvey. So I really hope that Colonel mustard in the library was in fact Wine David’s clue. Will find out tomorrow whether it’s winner winner chicken dinner or try again next time.

So my first guess, Virtue Wines, was a fairly quick jump form the clue to “patience” to “patience is a virtue” to "Virtue Wines.
I was OK with that guess until i thought to myself “that’s not really WD’s style”.
So…I literally Googled “I hate waiting” and the first thing that came up was:
Princess Bride! Aaaahhhh…much more WD’s style!!! This led directly to “Inigo Montoya” to “the Spaniard” to “Twisted Oak”.

Although Deaver Vineyards has an Almond Sparkling wine from Shenandoah Valley. Grape growers for over 150 years.
But LVVR Sparkling Cellars in Lodi was one of the 10 hottest brands in 2016 and is the (or was at the time) only méthode champenoise producers locally.
Most likely is Deaver Vineyards, since a majority of Zin grapes are “Deaver clones”.
Edit: I would have said Twisted Oak, but they don’t have a sparkling wine. Or is that extraneous?

I think we might be reading too much into what was likely a typing issue. Greg Martellotto is a wine importer as well as a winemaker. I don’t see any connection to the HA CL capitalization. I didn’t spend much time on it but was thinking of the Treasure Hunter guy, Hunter Vogle. I think he is more of a negociant than an importer though, ala Cameron Hughes.
I am sitting on a couple 2010 Martellotto Cabernet Sauvignon M Spring Mountain Cabs that I got from wine.woot in '13 and also still have 1 bottle of Piro Piro Piccolo Pinot Grigio which was a Martelloto offering.
CT has not been kind to the Cab. Surprising for Spring Mt. fruit but I will wait on them until 2020+ to make sure they are out of any possible dumb phase.

This vineyard is named “Southwind” … the name with which our ship “Cadaretta” was re-christened when it was conscripted for military duty in World War II.

This is so weird and frustrating … I could have sworn I posted it was either Dusted Valley or Cadaretta! More Cadaretta because they had been on WW last.
Googled: “southwind vineyard sourced”. Well, first without the “sourced” part.
List showed Cadaretta 5th & 7th, with Dusted Valley 8th. Both listed Southwind Vineyard as a source, looking at their vineyards.
Then googled Cadaretta with Wine.Woot, and 3rd was their 2011 Cadaretta Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 4-Pack, sold by Middleton Family WInes on WW in Aug 2016.
Dusted Valley was in April on WW, so decided Cadaretta was the more likely (being Middleton and the more recent), so I swear I had posted something about it possibly being DV but more “Cadaretta Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, by Middleton Family WInes, 2013 or 2014 this time”.
And no one had posted anything yet! I guess I hadn’t hit the “Say it” button on my tablet. And didn’t check again, because I was with my family and was getting dinner. Oh well, C’est la vie.

Well, it almost indicates Johnny Bench, with Dave Concepción and Pete Rose on the 1970 Cincinnati Reds team, but no Brad on the roster at the time. Later, Brad “The Animal” Lesley was pitching, but no Johnny Bench.
However, there was Alex Trevino catching, with Brad pitching and Dave & Pete infield.
