Algae looking goo in Gruet
0My experience with sparkling wine is somewhat limited. Is this algae type looking goo normal or cause for concern? There are also some specs/flakes floating around inside. It’s difficult to photograph, but that “tail” part (attached to the inside wall of the bottle) does have a floating motion to it when the bottle is moved. I noticed it on the first bottle I grabbed, so then I checked another bottle and they both have it.

Sound like it requires a lab rat. I volunteer you to try it out and see how it tastes! And then report back.
I ended up doing exactly that. The Blanc de Noirs was fantastic and I didn’t detect any detriment to it whatsoever. I suspect that little blob was harmless residual yeast perhaps. The bottle had been stored on its side, but once it was upright for a while the blob disappeared. As I said previously my experience with sparkling wine is limited and I’m still curious what others might have to say, but I’m happy to report I don’t believe there was any cause for concern.
