I was pretty impressed. The all too often justified rap on Oregon Pinot Noir - that the truly superior wines are $75 and up, and the moderately priced ones are thin and lack flavor and complexity - is of course true of red Burgundy as well. Not this one - the wine is big - did I see 29 proof? - but it’s not a simple Santa Barbara cherry extract & $1K/barrel oak solution, it’s graceful and complex. I might add that the bottle you cracked for me was a bit too warm - though that might have been my bad for overheating the room with my overpressurized-blowtorch personality.
Christ in the foothills, I want some - can you take it out of the molehill of moolah you owe me?!?
@ZeppelinWinery – coincidentally, Swilliam, I was labratted for this as well instead of for Petite Sirah for some reason
I generally agree with your overall notes and quality assessment. Especially agree on the value here – this a QPR home run for pinot.
I got a lot of black raspberry reduction (almost candied or pie filling) on the nose, with some briny black olive. New world, but with one foot in the old world, pretty structured. A bit of heat on the back end from the proof.
Flavor-wise it lived up to the nose. Well-structured, again – not a fruit bomb, but it had both fruit (black raspberry) and secondary/tertiary flavors (black olives, though not briny, a hint of mushroom).
It has enough structure to pair with food and enough fruit to drink on its own. I think it’s hard to go wrong with this one, overall, and if I didn’t already have too much Pinot for my consumption rate, I’d go in on this in a heartbeat.
A note on the age (2015) – I left half a glass sitting for 4 hours, and it was much less enjoyable when I returned to it. This is not a wine to decant, and I don’t think it’s one to cellar, but should drink nicely for the next 2 years.
Okay, @Winedavid49, you’re on the hook for this one. I’d really like to order the three bottle solution, but I need to know that you understand that I live in a great huge desert, and there have already been two 90+ (Fahrenheit) days. It’s going to sit on a FedEx truck for at least 6 to 8 hours on the delivery day (because that’s the schedule, and I’m fine with it).
How, precisely, will it be packed? Pinot Noir’s one of my favorites, and I’m very fond of the Williamette Valley offerings. I’d really like these. Please don’t break my heart.
@Winedavid49 are you out there? The clock is ticking downwards. The wine sounds very good, but I’m unwilling to buy something that has such a high risk of disaster. @Dave or @Snapster, do you have anything to offer on summer shipping?
@Winedavid49 Well, crap. I don’t think I’ve EVER seen this before, but it doesn’t ship to WA. At least I can be comforted that I can just drive there, if I want a bottle or two… :-{
I’m comforted in your vow to bring me wine unscathed by the transit, but I will have to pass this one by. Bleagh.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

Even though I have more wine than I can store, and even though I am supposed to be saving for a vacation, I just couldn’t resist a case of this pinot noir. Too good a deal on too good a wine.

This goes down on me list of things to try. When will the heat go away?!
BTW- RJQ, I will be down in SD mid June. Claiming on goods. Payday for you. Your patience is mucho appreciated.
Premier Cuvée, our proprietary blend, is a combination of fruit from our six distinctive vineyards: Arcus Vineyard, Red Hills Vineyard, Renegade Ridge Vineyard, Archer’s Edge Vineyard and Summit Vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA, and Looney Vineyard located in the Ribbon Ridge AVA. Our hillside vineyards are densely planted in both volcanic and marine sedimentary soils from 800 up to 4,800 vines per acre and are meticulously farmed utilizing sustainable practices by our dedicated crew of vineyard workers.
This elegant wine opens with effusive floral aromas of violet and hyacinth intermingled with hints of powdered chocolate, black licorice, freshly ground coffee beans and Santa Rosa plums, creating a sophisticated bouquet that is characteristic of the 2015 vintage. The palate is expansive and expressive, showing a completeness and comfort within its own skin. The entry exposes juicy blackberry and black cherry with plush flavors of bramble and briary, supported by fine grained tannins that lead into a velvety finish with the essence of dark chocolate.
Vintage and Winemaker Notes
Fruit for the 2015 Premier Cuvée was hand picked between September 10th to 23rd. The fruit was hand sorted and soaked cold for five to ten days, after which native yeast fermentation was allowed to proceed under temperature-controlled conditions in both stainless steel and wooden open top fermentors. During primary fermentation, tanks were punched down up to three times per day. After limited post-fermentation maceration, the wine was sent via gravity to 28% new French oak barrels and aged for 8 months prior to bottling.
Fermentation: Fermented in oak and stainless steel open top tanks
Élevage: Aged 8 months in 28% new French oak barrels from Francois Frères, Marcel Cadet, Mercurey, Damy, Atelier, Billon, Rousseau, Chassin, Remond and Meyrieux

@dgfait No OH either. On their website, the only excluded states are AR, DE, IN, KY, MS, OK, RI and UT. I understand the Casemates restrictions for AK and HI but unsure why GA, NC and OH can’t get in on the action.
Alright. I’m gathering interest for dfw. But not committing myself. I’d be happy with a couple bottles. I know hey_Zues might be interested also. If we don’t hear from anyone might just do a 3 pack.

@ZeppelinWinery Nice review. I thought the saying was “Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.” Oh, I guess you didn’t. LOL.

@Winedavid49 this should be interesting
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 indeed.
If I can even understand the musings…
@CorTot @rjquillin oh, there are gems to be discovered in Stillman’s musings.

@gemeinschaft79 yea, i don’t blame you. This is one of the best QPR’s on a Pinot i can recall.
Nice deal. Have been a fan for a long time. Too warm to risk $300 however.

I’m nervous about simmer shipping, does the CO-bound wine still travel to Kansas City refrigerated before going ground to Denver?
We really need more PN, and this sounds really good…
Any ideas on drinking windows?
@knlprez *summer shipping. Although I guess my subconscious is worried about the wines simmering?

@ZeppelinWinery tried this and wants more.
@PetiteSirah brings us a Lab Rat Report on this Pinot Noir.
No Georgia? I just fixed my shipping dilemma, and now no GA?
Argh! Now I have to get my wife some whites before I can pull the trigger again. Dang it!!! @MSUMike - I don’t want to hear it…
@hey_zeus Damnit… I haven’t even checked for this deal yet… Sounds tasty… Come get her some Rose’s this afternoon at Sigel’s
I would like to echo @jeffreywsnyder. Any chance of getting GA on the shipping list? I’ve been to this winery, and this is a deal.
I would be all over this, but no NC shipping! Arghh!
@dgfait No OH either. On their website, the only excluded states are AR, DE, IN, KY, MS, OK, RI and UT. I understand the Casemates restrictions for AK and HI but unsure why GA, NC and OH can’t get in on the action.
@chipgreen This could be another split if we can get an exception for OH.
Anyone up for a split in MN?
@deneed4spd I could take part in a 3-way or even 4-way split.
Anyone want to split in East Tennessee?
I was doing so well resisting lately, this one looked too good to pass up.
Alright. I’m gathering interest for dfw. But not committing myself. I’d be happy with a couple bottles. I know hey_Zues might be interested also. If we don’t hear from anyone might just do a 3 pack.
Seattle interest?
@aces219 Oddly enough, no WA on the shipping list.
@aces219 @Pagefault it is odd, but true. apologies.
@Pagefault @Winedavid49 good catch! It’s so rare that WA is excluded that I don’t even think to check. My wallet is fine with this!
@kasandrae if you chime in later and need help deciding, I will be there…for splitsville : ]
@ttboy23 I’m…trying…to…resist…
Just opened my last bottle of WineSmith Saint Laurent tonight.
Is it true we’ll see another WineSmith offering here soon?
@zachdecker Wrong thread.
