Ron and I split some Virage Cab Franc Rose and Cab blend.
I’m getting some of the I. Brand single vineyard samplers.
Flannery reload with the extra-aged striploins
Still considering Cabot, but I shouldn’t go there. Ditto Paetra.
Keller Mystery 6 pack, Chester’s Anvil Hattori Hanzo, and Sandler Pinot. And tuna, chorizo, and queso Rosinante from Veleta! But I lost out on the Campesino rose! Painful…
@hscottk
I just logged on 90 mins ago and the Isa was long gone. Last year, I avoided BD altogether but was still able to email Macario the next day for a case of Rose. Oh well, I do still have 5 bottles from last year’s case (had 6 but drank one the other night in anticipation of restocking, haha).
So far, all I have purchased is two 4-packs from Sandler. I’m still looking…
@chipgreen i missed it by minutes. Drank my last bottle of the 2015 a few months back. That deal 2 years ago was crazy qpr.
@chipgreen @hscottk I liked the 2015 much more than the 2016. Although with more time in bottle maybe it’s come around.
Hmm just a little…6 virage right bank, 6 Ian Brand Besson vineyard Grenache, 6 calluna cabs and a new and cooler wine check I think that’s it.
@ScottW58 Calluna? I don’t think I even saw the name.
No more Franny Beck??
@klezman It’s easy to find stuff when you are laying on your death bed all weekend surfing the internet
Nope no more Franny for me but I have to say I was tempted by his “Friend of a friend want’s to land his helicopter at Screagle” referenced deal
@ScottW58 Well, you missed a nice dinner last night. If you’re feeling better soon, we still have the home dry-aged rib roast since we opted to cook something smaller. Come over soon!
So now you’re limited to 1-2 years per winery? Always trying to find the new stuff?
@klezman yeah first real cold or flu? In three years and it has been an ugly ride! I think because I try so many different wines I can narrow it down to what I like best. Right now in Oregon it’s John Thomas and Kelley Fox with a smattering of Biggio Hamina. In California Arcadian is killing it! Actually joined his club again and the last 2 shipments we’re 2000 Franchesca Pinot and 2001 Pisoni vineyard pinots. And some 04 and 06 syrahs and am very happy I don’t have to age any of them
@klezman @ScottW58 what dinner?
Lagier-Meredith Syrah mag vert
RedElectric Pinot
DV8
Dilecta Syrah / Pinot
Bevela Syrah
Sandler
Wilde Farm Syrah / Pinot
Flannery & Veleta
@rc70 I’m intrigued by Bevela…trying to stick to $20 and under but feel like I am going to regret this one
Nothing…
Isa was gone and didn’t look any further.
DV8 reds and case of Liquid farm rose at $199 plus $4 shipping. Could not pass up.
@losthighwayz that’s a nice haul!
Is it me or are there too may PN offers on BD? I was looking for zins and Rhine varietals but couldn’t find much
@losthighwayz I agree, way too much Pinot.
Besides the Sandler 8-pack, I also went in on a 3-pack from Windy Oaks and a mixed case each from Franny Beck, Paetra and DV8.
No wine for me this year. SWMBO is enforcing a SIWBM. Wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard “You already have too much wine!” Did mange to get some bomba rice for paella and a dozen cans of sardines. Strange. Here I am in Madrid and I’m buying Spanish products from America.
@jmdavidson1
Mexico, Spain… where are you off to next?
A few of the Grassl glasses. I had a GGG break midyear and instead of getting one replacement, I can buy two Grassl. No wine though.
Sandler 6 pack, Halcon 6 pack and Longplay Pinots. Stayed the course.
My BD turned out quite different from what I’d planned. First of all, after weeks of anticipation, I completely forgot about it, until literally the 11th hour, lying in bed, when it hit me. So then I started scrolling through the offers, until well past the 12th hour.
I’d been hoping to re-up on Navarro, but they didn’t participate this year. I bought Franny Beck the past two years, but I still have some of those, so I looked elsewhere. I bought 6 of Paetra’s “K” Riesling last year, and hoped to do the same this year, but that wasn’t an option at that quantity. That #1 package of his, the off-dry Riesling made in the old style, was mighty intriguing, but I didn’t think I wanted to commit to 6. I guess it’s not too late to change my mind on that, his sale is still on today.
I broke one of my GabrielGlas Standarts last year, but passed on replacing it. I still have three, and I only have two hands, so I should be ok for a bit, as long as I stop hip-checking wine glasses that are sitting innocently on an end table, minding their own business. And the Campesino Isa that I got last year, I just didn’t love, and I still have a few left. So no tears over missing out on that one.
I was considering a case of the Riesling from Chris James, but I ended up passing on that one as well. Eventually I settled on a couple of items from Silas, the three cool-weather PNs, and the mixed 3-pack of Roses and white. They looked interesting, and at some point I noticed he said Franny Beck is a neighbor, so I figured what the heck.
All that scrolling and thinking, and lost sleep, for a big 6 bottles of wine! Oh well, it was fun.
@InFrom Subscibe to Navarro’s email list. I got a mixed vintage close out for $85 a couple weeks ago. 2 whites, a pink and 3 reds. All past vintages.
@CorTot Yeah, I was going to pick up one of those mystery cases they emailed about, but I figured I’d probably do better on BD. Wrong! I do still have a couple of theirs left from last year, including one of that delicious Brut Gewurz. I put one of those in my 6 to fill out a case, and one was included in the mystery case 6-pack.
@InFrom
Sparkling Gewurz? I had one recently from Harvest Moon that was really good. But you say you didn’t love the Campesino Isa? Blasphemy! Ok, I guess we have to disagree once in awhile.
I went in on the 6-pack of off-dry Paetra, so if you go to Buffalo next January and one of us remembers to remind the other, we can trade some Paetra for Isa if you’d like.
@CorTot @InFrom Yeah, I got the fukubukuro and filled it out to a case again. Not as awesome as last year’s haul but some good stuff.
@chipgreen Sounds good (on the trade, I mean), but do I have to go in January again?
@klezman
Who offered the fukubukuro?
@InFrom
You could be like us and skip the actual ice wine festival. That reduces your exposure to the cold down to getting back and forth between vehicles and buildings. Although I am truly planning to get my passport so that I can go to Canada next year, just like I was going to do last year and the year before, doh.
@chipgreen Do it! Or get a secure driver’s license. The trip to NOTL is great fun. For us, it was the high point of the weekend, among many fun events.
@klezman @rjquillin @losthighwayz @markdaspark If anyone wants some I ordered a case of the 2008 Indian Creek Old Vine Red from Navarro (looks like their version of the Duke). At $5 a bottle its probably a pretty good table wine. Smokey or not.
@chipgreen @klezman Navarro. By email.
@CorTot @klezman @losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark
You do realize you can mix-n-match a case and it ships for 1¢
@klezman @losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin Yes, i was going with low cost. I could have added the 2008 grenache at $6 but the one CT note drove me away from it.
@CorTot @klezman @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin Ill take 4 bottles, for science!
@chipgreen @InFrom Wait? you went to the ice wine festival twice but never went to the ice wine festival??
@klezman @losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin Done!
@chipgreen @ScottW58 I think that should read, “thrice”.
@InFrom @ScottW58
Make that 5 years in a row. I know because I remember the bubbly we brought each time for the sushi dinner. Four different Iron Horses and one Dosnon & Lepage.
@chipgreen @InFrom wow guess you really love sushi, not so much ice wine
@chipgreen @ScottW58 Maybe they just like Buffalo?
@chipgreen @InFrom or the good folks who live in Buffalo
@InFrom @ScottW58
Mostly that!
My wife won’t eat sushi and it’s usually the only time all year I eat it. There is a full weekend’s worth of activities, though. We still meet up at D & B’s house Friday night to share some ice/dessert wines and if we’re lucky d-dog graces us with one of his delicious cheesecakes. Saturday we do our own thing (which is usually going to a specific bar for wings and beef on weck) while the others go to the festival. Saturday night is the dinner and we’re in it as much as anything for the bubbly (and the camaraderie). Sunday we meet up for brunch before heading home so that puts a nice bookend on it. Also, it’s an easy 3-hour drive down I-90 although we have gotten caught in white-out conditions a few times.
I got a case of Wilde Farm, Syrah and the Heritage Bedrock Blend. Looked at the blend later on Cellartracker, and it was not liked…hope my tastes appreciate it.
I’m such a nub, I did not know BD existed until a couple days ago. Picked up a Sandler Pk. DV8 mixed white and red looked interesting, but I’ll hold off and save up for next year.
@TechnoViking
You’re going to like that Sandler!
@chipgreen I opened my first bottle of Sandler 2016 Cuvée Marcy PN tonight. Now that I have tried it… dang I have been missing out. Just ordered another 4pk.
@chipgreen @TechnoViking It’s slippery…
Good to a lot of people buying DV8 this year! Mark the owner/winemaker and his wife are part of a wine drinking group I’m in, they are working their ass’s off trying to make the dream work. And super nice people too!
@ScottW58 must be nice being part of the elite
@losthighwayz Yes! I like it I am the elite!
@losthighwayz @ScottW58
It’s 1337
Betwixt Grenache and Dilecta “3 Wines”, because I like wineries with 7-letter names and large discounts. And FYI, the Tercero offers are open until Friday.
@merrybill
Yes and Sojourn has emailed me 2x about my abandoned cart, haha. Berserker Week
Seems like I usually spend twice as much as I intend to but only get about half of what I want!
