Best In Your Cellar
0I thought it might be fun to see what bottle everyone is most proud of in their “cellar”. It could be something old that has already proven itself, or a new vintage that you think is going to age like a Robert Lowe with better morals.
Pictures are preferred!
Love you guys!

My top shelf wines are:
Georges de Latour '08
Chappellet Pritchard Hill '06
Caymus '12, '13, '14 (the '12 is the 40th anniversary)
But the ones I can always count on are:
Shafer One Point Five
Chappellet
Turnbull
Inglenook Cask 1968, 1970
Beaulieu George’s de Latour 1970
Berlinger Private Reserve 1980
Latour 1970
Margaux 1970
Warre, Dow 1970 Port
@rpm Not all of us were collecting in 70’s.
Sigh…
by vintage
1949 Bodegas Toro Albala Don P.X. Reserva Especial
1973 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon Bosché Vineyard
1973 Pedroncelli Cabernet Sauvignon
1977 Hacienda Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Buena Vista
1978 Carneros Creek Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Turnbull-Fay
1980 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard
1990 Wellington Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Random Ridge
This is really a tough call, I will just go with a few of the ones I have tried.
NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Initial
1989 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 164eme
1989 Gaja Barbaresco (maybe the greatest wine I have had)
2000/2009 Arcadian Pinot Noir Francesca’s Cuvée
1998 Elio Altare Barolo Brunate
1984 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello
And I will throw this one in because when my sister in-law opened this wine a couple of years ago I was not expecting much because it was so young, all I can tell you is I still think about the taste and structure of this wine. And lucky me after Andrea and I took her and her friend through Santa Barbara/Lompoc/Santa Ynez earlier this year she gifted me a bottle I will wait a few more years to drink it
I love wine!
@ScottW58 Which one is “so young”? 1984 Monte Bello isn’t that…
If we could get some of that for molarchae, it’s her birth year!
@klezman
Whoops I was talking about a 2013 Montabello.
@ScottW58 Drool
From what I’ve actually got in my cellar…some birth year wines:
1980 Kalin Cabernet, Santa Barbara
1980 Taylor’s Port
1980 Ridge Cabernet (from before they separated the younger “Estate” from the “Monte Bello”, I think)
1984 BV Georges de Latour
A couple first growths gifted to me: 1995 Mouton Rothschild
Some decently aged icewines from Niagara
My 10 most valuable, per CT:
10 more that I am happy to have in my cellar:
@chipgreen Oh yeah, I left the Kronos and Clone 6 off my list!
Also those Mr. K’s are amazing. Although at multiples the cost of a top shelf Niagara icewine, it’s not exactly a value play.
@chipgreen @klezman
Interesting, I’d not thought of sorting that way.
Top 6 750’s
1949 Château Climens
1949 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Le Haut-Lieu
1949 Château Rouget
1969 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve
2005 Château d’Yquem
2005 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba
and not limiting to 750’s the last two change to
1991 Wellington Vineyards Merlot (3L)
1997 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard (1.5L)
@chipgreen @klezman @rjquillin whoa! That Kronos magnum is going to be amazing! What time frame are you planning on opening? I would think it’s in its prime!
@chipgreen @klezman @nostrom0 Absolutely no idea. Likely I should consult Cathy and get her opinion first. Also need to round up some good palates to enjoy…
@chipgreen @nostrom0 @rjquillin That would go well with the wagyu I emailed you about…just sayin’
@chipgreen @klezman @nostrom0 @rjquillin Didn’t we open a 750 of 1997 Kronos at your place when I was in town? I seem to remember a Brit stopping by with it… And it was amazing
@chipgreen @klezman @nostrom0 But damn, that wagyu is $$$$!
According to CT my 2004 Corison Kronos Cab is the most valuable bottle I have. Haven’t been collecting very long at all. Did try some Monte Bello at Ridge this past month. Impressive.
I’ve got a few Wine Smith Crucibles I don’t remember what vintage…and a Prager Port…that are my most Valuable… I also have a few Scott Harvey Barbera that are some of my favorites.
I guess one of these days I should actually take the time to put my collection into CT
Amazing stuff hidden in your cellars! This is why wine is so amazing, who knows how delicious and valuable today’s wines will become…also I’m beyond jealous with those who have 60s-70s Beaulieu and Freemarks, invite me over when you uncork those!!!
