Casemates Fantasy Baseball League 2018
1We are moving the woot FBL, “There’s no Wineing in Baseball”, over here. We have openings for up to 6 new teams. Its a fun, low pressure, weekly head-to-head style (similar to most football leagues) with daily line-up changes hosted on Yahoo. It runs most of the season and ends with playoffs to crown the champion. No FBL experience is required, but obviously some baseball knowledge will be useful. There is a live draft scheduled for next Sunday, March 25, and the real games start Thursday March 29. Don’t worry if you can’t make that because Yahoo will autopick your team, and they do a pretty good job. To join, follow this link:

I’m the commissioner, so if you have any questions, ask away. We hope to see you there! Play Ball!

We’ve gotten 1 new team already, and we have room for up to 5 more. Check it out.
@chipgreen Loved that movie!!
You said no fantasy league experience necessary - did you mean it?? I would love to learn how to play but never have cuz I feel stupid having to ask for help. I’m an avid StL Cardinals fan and actually spent a decent amount of my younger days at Wrigley Field as a Cubs fan. Oh, and my dad played in the minors back in the 1950’s for a short while.
So what’s the best way for me to learn the ropes? Thanks!
@mehmerized I am also avid Cardinals fan I don’t get the I’m also a cubs fan… that doesn’t work.
@mehmerized I’m also starting in their league this year and would be happy to offer assistance to you during the year.
@jml326 Born and raised in Chicago suburbs. Moved to west central IL and lost interest in baseball for a long while. Married a hardcore Cards fan and realized how much more fun it is following a winning team! (Especially after attending 2011 playoff game and 2 WS games, incl game 7!) All the above equals former Cubs fan now Cards fan!! Does that help? ;-D
@jml326 Thank you!! I’ll try not to be too much of a bother!
@jml326 @mehmerized Lifelong Indians fan here -
born, raised and still living in NE Ohio but have a sister in St. Louis and another one in Chicago, so I am also a (casual) fan of both the Redbirds and Cubbies.
Learn by doing is the best way. The idea is to hit more homers and steal more bases and get more saves and strikeouts than the other team you’re playing. We have 6 hitting scoring categories (R, H, HR, RBI, SB, OPS) and 6 for pitching (W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, QS). You play another team each week, and whoever wins each category for the week gets a point, and the most points by a team wins that week’s match.
You, the manager, will be able to set your lineup every day based on the normal lineup positions (1B, SS, etc) along with starters and relievers. You can scan the free agent list and change out players if you want, and there’s a DL for injured players.
Once you get rolling, it’ll only take a few minutes a day to review your lineup, although you can spend a lot more time if you want to obsess over your no-good players and propose trades. Overall, I think its competitive, challenging, and fun.
@merrybill That helps - thanks!! How is AL vs NL handled? (I.e.- all players mixed on a team or all one league team, DH, etc.) It’s good to hear that you don’t have to spend hours on managing like I’ve seen so many people do. I guess I’ll join up and give it a try! Thanks much!!
A couple tips - you can set your lineup in advance. Days or even weeks ahead… but beware, if you make a move (pickup a free agent or complete a trade) your future lineups get undone and you will have to redo them.
I set my lineup about a week in advance at a time. Mondays and Thursdays are usually the “light” days where only a handful of teams have games. Make sure you maximize your roster by benching the guys whose teams aren’t playing and substituting ones who are.
If you have time, check your roster each day a couple hours before game time. Players who are not in the starting lineup for their teams are noted with an X.
Be sure to swap out players more than 5 minutes before the games begin. Also keep an eye out for cancelled games due to inclement weather (especially in April).
That’s all you get! (For now…)
@chipgreen Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!
@mehmerized A little late with this tip, but note that we have 3 DL slots available to us on our teams for players who get injured. (Like MadBum). You place your player on the DL (once they are officially on the MLB DL) the same way you’d change their position (say, from 2B to 3B or P to BN)
@chipgreen merrybill mentioned the DL in a prior post but I never saw it on my team page.
@mehmerized DL = disabled list. Which you have none on your roster right now. It does allow you to hold onto players without losing a roster spot. Take a look at some of the other teams. You’ll see players with a RED DL next to their name have been placed into a slot DL. This slot will only show up if you have a DL player to be added.
Just click on the blue position square like you would place a player into a position or BN (bench). Take a look Adequate Team they have 3 DL players sitting in DL slots. This allowed them to pick up 3 more players and not have to “take a hit” to their total allowed players.
@mehmerized Side note it looks like you had Madison Bumgarner. You could have used one of you 3 DL slots for him to have held on to him.
@jml326 Like I said - I did not have any DL slots showing. There was nowhere to put him so thats why I released him. I just looked at other teams and see their DL but that was not an option for me at the time. He must not have been officially on DL at that time even tho it was obvious he would be. Oh well, I’m here to learn, right?!!
@mehmerized You are correct. If he was not listed on the DL (red letters behind his name) he can’t go on the DL. Also they are not there on your roster list. They will appear when you select that blue square and look at the bottom of your batter or pitcher bench.
I will be locking the league tonight because our draft is tomorrow morning. I have room for 2 more teams - but it has to be 2 since we are a head-to-head league with weekly matchups. So join today (and hope someone else does too) if you’ve been thinking about it.
