I don’t normally cellar wine, but I do cellar beer. I’ve been storing Sierra Nevada’s BigFoot barley wine forever. It’s normally in the 10% range so holds up to time. When I get together with my beer geek friends we’ll do a five or six year flight tasting. I also have several 2010 Dogfish Head World Wide Stouts (@18% ) It’s a real sipper
@capnjb I’ve had some really good aged beers. I didn’t know this was possible until my daughter started working at a WOB and she got very knowledgeable about it. The oldest one I tried was 10 years old and tasted like Sherry. Very little carbonation left. My understanding is you have to know which ones will age well-as not all of them will?
I’ve been thinking of getting a wine fridge/cooler, but it’s really a matter of space. I’m in a 2nd floor apartment, so there’s really no good year-round cool spot to store anything.
Through great sacrifice (drinking good wine is soooo difficult) I got my inventory down below 300 bottles. Now I’m back above 350 again. Oh, darn. I guess I’ll have to open another bottle.
@arielleslie We use to be in the same boat. Bought a 240 bottle wine fridge, filled it (thanks Woot!), now have 2 lockers at a local offsite wine storage as well which are at about 90% capacity… it is a very slippery slope!
@knlprez I’m hoping to resist the need to rent a storage space larger than my apartment just for my wine. If the bottom shelf of my pantry is full, no more wine for me.
@arielleslie That’s what I said too. Then Wellington would come up, so we stacked a few cases in the closet in the basement bedroom. Then WineSmith, more of the same, then Pedroncelli, then Scott Harvey, then Haywood… then I was in trouble because our guest bedroom couldn’t be used… very slippery slope!
Due to Wine Woot, and to a lesser extent, others…I have about 900 bottles. Can’t drink 'em all now. Fortunately I live in an area that has basements in all the houses.
Was thinking about purchasing a wine refrigerator as I have no basement. Something likely in the 150ish bottle range. Any recommendations on brands and/or where to look and learn more about them? Thanks in advance!

@RedwineO That’s correct. However it’s still a matter of preference, just like wine.

I used to think having more than half a dozen bottles was a lot. Now I’m trying to clear out a room in my basement so I have space to build a rack…
I was just imagining the horrible scenario of me moving to a location without a basement cellar. What would I do with all my wine!?

I have a basement. It has a LOT of wine in it. Does that count?
