I got the exciting opportunity to be a lab rat and picked the bottle up from FedEx yesterday afternoon. After a chill, we got to tasting.
This wine is a pretty, pale yellow in the glass. Initial aroma is mild, lime zest, a little green apple peel. On first taste it’s tart and refreshingly juicy. A good sunny day wine, I think this would be a crowd pleaser at a summer cookout - pair it with hotdogs and hamburgers and debate whether or not they are sandwiches. We had it alongside blts and potato chips and I must say it did go well with that classic summer sandwich. The acidity from the wine balanced the richness from the bacon and mayo and it was also surprisingly good with the salty kettle chips. As it warmed up a in the glass, the layer of chardonnay and oak notes became more pronounced but it retained it’s zesty brightness. Thanks for the opportunity to try it out!
@losthighwayz@rjquillin I was a part of the WW team in 2011-2012ish…a big background in helping wineries from
all over the world with sales and marketing. finally decided in 2013 to take the risk and start one with my husband. we were the first winery to be crowdfunded on Kickstarter in 2014 as well. Thankfully since then our winery has done well!
Having met Ali back in the w.w days, we’re pleased to have been part of the Kickstarter support group, and charter members of their wine club. It’s thrilling to see the success they’ve had. Glad to see them here with what looks like a terrific offer!
Sorry for the delayed report. I tried to access the site multiple times last night from a few different devices, but Casemates was down for some unknown reason. This slipped my mind until just now, so I’ll share some brief notes and photos.
tldr: This wine is refreshing and absolutely delicious. A perfect “patio pounder” on a warm day and a steal at the Casemates price.
I recruited a friend to help provide some feedback about this wine and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. At 14% abv, we were both surprised how well hidden/integrated the alcohol was. This wine is incredibly smooth, balanced, and it disappears all too quickly. So it’s a good thing you can stock up on some here at the Casemates price!
It drinks well on its own, but it is bone dry so that acidity pairs well with a variety of foods. The accompaniments for the night were sliced apple, peach, pluot, smoked almonds, pistachios, dry salami, crackers, French baguette, Rembrandt extra aged gouda, and some Jarlsberg. This wine is truly versatile and it paired well with everything. The fruits were already sweet so that brought out the minerality in the wine. The salty salami and crackers brought out a sense of smooth creaminess in the wine. Perhaps from the Chardonnay component? And the French baguette with butter brought out more of the fruit in the wine. It was fun comparing and contrasting all of the various elements.
My friend and I both agreed there was nothing offensive about this wine and it is sure to be a crowd pleaser. As I mentioned earlier, this wine disappears FAR too quickly.
It’s getting late and I’m typing this out on my phone, so I’ll leave it at that. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I’ll try my best to answer them.
Many thanks to WD, Ariana, and the entire Casemates crew for all that you do. The lab rat program is much appreciated and it is truly an honor to have been selected. Thanks!
Oops, I missed one.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

2017 Lord Sandwich Blanc - $15 = 12.50%
@chipgreen Thank you! I just wanted to mention to you (here rather than clutter the other thread) that the thread containing all of the “case savings” has been very useful to me. Sometimes I come across a wine that I wonder if/when/what vintage was offered on Casemates. It is very easy to open that thread and search, unlike trying to scroll down all of the main forum titles to be able to search them. Of course, if the site offered thread search tools…
Named after our charity, Socks for Sandwich. Lord Sandwich is our family dog. Quite a serious wine for the price. Best sipped with good company. It is a beautiful wine and popular with fans of wines with great balance and finesse.
Great to see this up today! Let Ali or I know if you have any other questions! Other than a sandwich I always love this wine with the couch after a hot day in the vineyards!
ddeuddeg and I were also fortunate to meet up with Ali for a wonderful tasting in one of their vineyards. On another occasion we dragged Tenuki with us to their tasting room up in Philo in the Alexander Valley. Great people and great wines! I love the pics of Lord Sandwich, but we have yet to meet!
What’s not to like about a wine with a dog tie-in and a social porpoise. I mean purpose. We’re on the road, but shipment time looks to work out for us. Looking forward to trying this Ali!

@rjquillin
I purchased a 6 pack, your welcome to 1 or 2 whichever you would like. When it comes in(maybe), we could settle-up our various splits. I couldn’t pass up such a great story too!!
@AliSandwichsMom Thanks! Have to admit when I first saw the offering I was doubtful…Lord Sandwich and all…
But hey what’s wrong with a little fun and it sounds tasty
… Will is also our Hospitality Director, a smart cookie from Cornell too. Please come see us in Windsor and/or the Anderson Valley! Details on our VISIT page on the website.
The Inaugural release…2017 Lord Sandwich Blanc. A blend of our gorgeous tank fermented Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc with a few barrels of our Dutton Ranch Chardonnay and a generous splash of refreshing Verdelho from the Contra Costa AVA. It’s the ultimate summer wine.
Much like our Lord Sandwich Red Table Wine, our new Lord Sandwich Blanc is a “seriously fun wine to drink”. We’ve been asked for months to produce a white wine that goes well with a Sandwich…true story!
We put our heads together last harvest and planned to use the RRV Sauvignon Blanc as the base wine in this blend. As we began to spread the word to vintner friends, the Meeker family introduced us to a beautiful Verdelho wine. A juicy and bright wine with streaks of key-lime and passion fruit. After a few blending sessions in our cellar, the end result also included our 2016 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay…a couple of barrels that had been aging in neutral Burgundy oak for over a year. This addition added another magical layer to the Lord Sandwich Blanc.
Have some real fun with this one, we are thrilled to have another Lord Sandwich offering that will help raise awareness for www.socksforsanchwich.org #givingisfun!
Smith Story Wine Cellars is the tale of true love. In May of 2013, Eric and Ali eloped on the Big Island of Hawaii to say I Do; also where the name Smith Story Wine Cellars was conceived. Bay Area born Eric and Fort Worth, Texas native Alison met while both working for K&L Wine Merchants in Northern California over a decade ago. A friendship flourished while discovering wines from far away lands, and visits to the Anderson Valley along with dear friends and their beloved dogs Henley and Lakota. “Drink what you love, love what you drink,” Eric often said to Alison while trying new wines over the years together.
Today they bring a combined 36+ years of wine industry experience to manage Smith Story Wine Cellars. Eric’s wine buying expertise and retail management lends a keen eye and discerning palate as he became the German, Loire, Alsace, Austrian and Greek wine buyer for K&L. Ali’s hospitality, wine buying, consumer marketing and national sales experience completes the entire wine-supply-chain as she transitioned from her decade old company TexaCali Wine Co. to drive the vision and brand for Smith Story Wine.
“Wine is our life, we are honored to now jump into the creative process of producing wines after decades of learning and selling wine for others. It is our hope that you invest in our story, fall in love with the wines and help us spread the joy of Smith Story Wine Cellars, we are humbled by this opportunity to follow our passion.” - Eric and Ali

Agree! We use a mobile bottling line and this was bottling along with a few other of our wines so we didn’t want to incur the cost of the closure change, since every penny counts to keep the price down. Our German riesling and rosé are in fresh as a daisy screw caps however.

Table wines, pizza wines, and “everyday drinkers.” Now we have sandwich wines?
I am asking a winemaker to make a libation that works in a brown bag but one for asphalt consumption and one for concrete. This is now a true story…

@CruelMelody the struggle is real. Thank You!
This looks enticing. How many cases? Also, curious why no stelvin enclosure? This would be the perfect wine for it imo!
