Looks like a great deal. I love wines from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, especially from Orange. In for a case based on the rattage, specs and story of the winemaker. We both started at 19 years old and both schooled in Europe.

Only my mom and I tasted this time. I like big bold tannic reds, mom does not like a lot of tannins. Due to my crazy schedule, this was a straight tasting, not paired with food. Also, this is a bit more abbreviated than my usual reports.
Tasting notes:
PnP:
Color - both mom and I agreed, beautiful burgundy red.
Aroma- Both also agreed (so rare ) Almost non existent, slight alcohol.
Taste- Me- Very light mouthfeel, faint cherry and light tannins
mom- Light mouthfeel, heavy tannins, couldn’t pick out any single flavor.
Vinturi:
Color- remained the same
Aroma- no difference
Taste- Me- maybe a tiny bit more cherry, but not much. Tannins smoothed out. Smooth mouthfeel.
Mom- flavors about the same, tannins much less and smoother.
Overall-
We both guessed price point of $20
We also both agreed that this would be a nice everyday wine. Not complex and would compliment most food without overpowering it. Would be good for a gathering of people with different tastes.

Happy Friday! Thank you Alice for getting the wine with plenty of time since I missed the email and had many things happening this week. We did get to it last night and saved some for a second day tasting later. So let’s get to it…
On opening thought light berry aroma with no strong alcohol smell. Deep garnet color. First taste for us definitely cherry and raspberry with light tannins. Smooth, balanced light mouth feel.
We paired with NY strips and asparagus which was a good pairing to us.
Overall, nice smooth wine by itself and would go fine with many food pairings.
We really enjoyed the wine. Would say worth the Casemates price.

Living on the EU side of the world the past six years, 2019 was considered an ideal year in Orange and CdP, so this should also lay down well for the 10-20 year marks.
I’ve never had this particular winemaker’s CdP, but CdP is my favorite French wine and I’m hoping it lives up to it’s neighbors. In for a case!

Tasting Notes
Dark red color. The nose has notes of fresh red and black cherries, strawberries, and herbs. On the palate, we have notes of dark red berries, pepper, and anise. Well-ripened, not over-extracted gives this wine ripe tannins on the finish. The texture is velvety with a medium to full body.
The Vines
Single vineyard estate of a historical local grape-growing family.
Terrior
This very special terroir is made up of rocks, stone, sand, limestone, and clay soil. This, along with the “Mistral” (strong, cold, and dry southern winds) help to keep the air and the fruit clean but also help to bring a freshness to the hottest of France’s major grape growing regions.
Vinification
Concrete tanks are used, not oak barrels, in order to preserve the complexity of the aromas.
Food Pairings: Wild boar, beef, lamb, and spicy dishes.

Our winemaker and founder, Nicolas Idiart, has a taste for adventure and is always up for a challenge! Excited by new projects and ways to make innovations in the industry, he maintains an artisanal approach to winemaking to produce terroir expressive wines.
Nicolas started his career in wine at the ripe age of 19. He graduated from Blanquefort, a renowned French winemaking school, and started working right away in wineries in the Loire Valley then New Zealand and Australia.
He moved to Canada on a whim and began working in wine sales there. He came back to Bordeaux and continued in sales for many years with a wine merchant for the North American market. This sales experience giving him valuable insight for the different global markets.
He finally went back to his passion for winemaking in 2014 and founded the Maison Idiart. He is always looking for a new challenge or opportunity and fearlessly approaches every new project.
“I feel lucky to be able to deliver terroir-driven wines by working with growers in sought out after IGP’s and AOP’s as well as using natural yeasts. I try to adapt my winemaking techniques to these said terroirs in order for each grape variety to fully express itself. As luck would have it, I already have a bottle of the same vintage downstairs so I will be sharing that one tonight at Friendsgiving!
