Heartbreaking. Some personal favorites (and great memories) on that list!
Ugh.
Absolutely devastating My thoughts are with all of those that have been impacted.
Is there like, fire insurance. Although its hard to replace grapes and vines. What a disaster, hopefully everyone is alright. Might be time for some innovation in the fire prevention and suppression business.
@Twich22 yes. all should have.
Calfire will be making a concerted effort to protect the vineyards, and I’ve “heard” that often the fire, if it’s not in full storm when it reaches the vineyard, will only be at the vegetative level and the vines and root stock will survive, and often produce something quite amazing the following years. Let us pray …
@stolicat vineyards are a great fire break, normally.
My second cousin was the winemaker at Burgess. (Burgess just recently sold, and they are revamping the entire workforce.) She posted on Facebook this morning that it is true Burgess suffered major damage. The old stone winery building and the lower winery building were destroyed. The residence and upper tasting room so far have survived. So sad how many wineries are suffering once again.
Our local news said st. Helena and Calistoga were also burning? I cant even imagine…
Seeing the Meadowood club house and restaurant burning hit me in the gut.
WD, How are things where you are?
I saw pics of one of the wineries burning, and I wanted to just cry.
