@Winedavid49 just had my second of 2 bottles of this wine for Father’s Day with rack of Lamb . . . wow, just wow - as remarkable as the first. Please please please bring back another Syrah from Red Car. If comparable to this 2012 I will readily buy two cases!!
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

2012 Red Car Sonoma Coast Syrah - $40 = 16.65%
Thanks to all for the kind thoughts! I usually don’t attempt to solicit birthday wishes (or openly admit how old I am) but it really is quite a coincidence. Although probably not as big as the time, just a few months ago, when I was returning to work from my lunch break and my truck’s odometer rolled over to 111,111 miles at 1:11 pm. But no, I did not play the lottery that day.
@ttboy23 I was waiting for someone to buy it for me! J/K… although I don’t mind (and even enjoy) some peppery flavors in a wine, I prefer them to be more in the background whereas it sounds like they might be at the forefront here based on the highlighted Wine Enthusiast notes above. I’m in the same boat when it comes to tart and it sounds like that’s the leading fruit characteristic.
I’d be interested to hear from a rat or two, maybe I could be persuaded…
This looks like my style of Syrah but unfortunately, I’m waiting for summer shipping. Had to pass on Clark’s wine too… Oh how I wish casemates had a “hold until fall” option…
@jhkey I also agree with summer shipping. Im part of Clark’s last shipment but worry on shipping. Its in the mid to high 80’s this week in Minnesota. Im assuming it can only be hotter in other parts of the country.
This wine is peppery and leathery, with a rustic rambling edginess. Tart varietal flavors of black cherry, black pepper and a feral underbelly of mushroom, sage and barnyard are supported by supple tannin and supportive oak. This wine is lightly ripe and bold in acidity.
In this bottle one can find the taste of blackberry, sandalwood, and white pepper. One of the original Rhône Rangers, Red Car has been producing Syrah longer than any other varietal. Today, it is at the forefront of the style evolution in California Syrah. Restraint, naturally high acidity, true Northern Rhône Syrah perfume, and silky tannins are important components in Red Car’s 2012 Sonoma Coast Syrah along with native yeast fermentation, moderate stem inclusion and being aged in 500L puncheons for 12 months. This wine sourced from the historic Martinelli Family’s Zio Tony Vineyard, located in the heart of the Sonoma Coast AVA and within a mile from our winery location, is a stand-out cool climate Syrah wine showcasing Red Car’s commitment and passion towards handcrafting wines of balance and finesse.
Vintage and Winemaker Notes
The inaugural vintage for Red Car was 2000. It was only 50 cases of Syrah made from a single ton of purchased grapes. Red Car, now known more for Pinot Noir and Rose, has been producing Syrah longer than any other varietal.
Though our Syrah bottlings have evolved since our founding, Red Car has received Syrah accolades going back to the very beginning:
Wine Enthusiast - 91 points on 2010, 2011, 2014 Sonoma Coast Syrah
Wine Spectator - 92 points on 2007 The Fight Syrah
Wine & Spirits - 94 points on Vivio Syrah

Our Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah are grown in cold-climate vineyards on the edge of the Pacific. This band of mountains along the West Sonoma Coast offers the ideal climate for our winemaking pursuits.
We are hands-on farmers, part of a small cadre of wineries in our region who are fortunate to grow a large majority of our own fruit. For several years now we have worked hard to go beyond sustainability and have integrated the concepts and principles of organic, biodynamic and permaculture systems into our farming as we search for nature’s ideal pathways.
Wine is important because it connects us to nature. But to offer meaning beyond itself, a wine has to come from a certain place, not just any place. And the winemaker must stand aside and allow that place to transmit its story without manipulation. This is our never-ending pursuit at Red Car.

@rjquillin lol, I’m in the middle of troubleshooting a plasma TV that stopped working, and possibly buying a new one. I should have taken a basic electronics repair class…
That said I’m going to decide today if I’m buying a $50 board for it or a new TV. So I’ll check back in here later today to say if I want any.
biodynamics…blerg. The bastard child of homeopathy and astrology. Yet another bit of marketing taking advantage of the woeful state of science education in this country. It’s a pet peeve, but every time I see something marketed as biodynamic, I just nope right out of there. I’ll forgive a lot if it’s done as ritual or superstition, but pseudoscience is something else all together.

I’m tempted here.
I’ve had a lot of good luck with winedavid and Sonoma Syrah. Any rodents?
@CorTot I’d do a three way split if it gets to that point.
@CorTot @losthighwayz it quickly got to that point, you can count me in.
Careful now. You know the potential consequences of a statement like that.

Thank you for not putting a campy drawing of a red car on the label.
@billmort
Any SE Michiganders interested? @borisgoodenough, I think I know that you’re not.
@jrbw3 I think I am done buying for now. Hot here and don’t want to chance it.
Reviews across the web are all pretty positive. In for a case.
Red Car’s rose is one of the best ever, have never had the syrah, defn. interested.
@NickSMU17 oh yea Red Car is a very hot brand right now and rightly so. this is a great opportunity to try this wine at a never before seen price. IMO
Any DFW folks interested in a split?
@happyboy
Sorry- I had to take a breather on my purchases. Tempting for sure.
If any of my NOVA Virginia buddies wants to order a case, I’m in for 3-6 of these.
