@chipgreen@mrn1@pjmartin Do you think our wives are now helping @Winedavid49 select the wineries or maybe they hijacked the site? Two in a row no O-H-I-O!!!
@Boatman72 But if you really want it badly enough, you can always have it shipped here, and we’ll find a way to get it to you in a reasonable amount of time. Although with the Wooster Inn gone, along with their wine dinners, we likely won’t b getting there quite as often.
@ddeuddeg From their website, it still looks like they are still functioning. But when did they stop having the “Winery” dinners?? Looks like they have a different format with a Wine Club. Wonder if Scott is finding another locale for his wine dinners?? Any word?
@ddeuddeg Thanks for the offer, but it makes sense to rest the wallet when possible! One of these years I’ve got to make your Ice Fest get together. Wife and need to get passports!!
@ddeuddeg@rjquillin
My understanding from the proprietor’s weekly newsletter is the facility owner, the College of Wooster, and he could not come to mutually agreed terms for a renewal of his lease. I am not aware of the Colleges plan for the facility. The proprietor is planning for the next chapter of his life. He is a great fellow who left us with fond memories of times spent at his inn.
@ddeuddeg@msten
He mentioned that he will be doing something wine related. I know he is a somm and does some judging. It will be interesting to see where he crops up again but we are very sad to see the demise of the Inn as a wine dinner destination.
@chipgreen@ddeuddeg@msten The Wooster area is a sleepy, quiet, and reserve Victorian area around the college and downtown Wooster; not a bustling area since Rubbermaid was bought out by Newell and closed their manufacturing/warehouse facilities. I just read the article, so it looks like the Inn will get much needed renovations and the College turned the building over to a Management firm. Very interesting! Wonder if Scott will still be doing a wine dinner there in the future or somewhere else in NEO?? Maybe closer to Jana’s hometown???

The region has a Mediterranean climate with wet winters, dry summers and plenty of sunshine. The proximity to St Vincent Gulf, coincidentally named after the patron saint of winemakers, benefits fruit quality with warmer spring and autumn conditions and cooler summers. McLaren Vale is renowned as a premium wine region of great beauty that consistently produces high quality, richly flavored wines.
2014 Shingleback Davey Estate Shiraz, McLaren Vale, South Australia
Tasting Notes
Deep red with purple hues. Brooding blackberry aromas with hints of white pepper and sweet toasted oak entice. Flavors of dark berries burst across the palate, complemented by notes of chocolate and shots of espresso. A full-bodied wine with a richly textured structure and long, lingering finish.
Vineyard and Winemaker Notes
The Davey Estate Vineyard is located in Whites Valley, at the southern end of the acclaimed McLaren Vale wine region in South Australia. Kym and John Davey planted & nurture their family-owned and sustainably managed estate vineyard on land their grandfather purchased in the 1950’s. Their goal is to produce high-quality, single vineyard wines. Modern viticultural practices that minimize work to the soil & encourage a balanced environment are used. Superior fruit is grown by managing canopies, hand-pruning, precise deficit irrigation & integrated pest management.

2016 Shingleback Red Knot Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia
Tasting Notes
Vibrant purple-red in colour. Pretty primary aromas of blackberry and sweet summer strawberries lift from the glass, along with notes of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Red and black berry flavours overflow the medium to full bodied palate and are focused into the long finish by fine fruit and oak tannins.
Vintage and Winemaker Notes
The Red Knot family of wines are designed for immediate enjoyment, full of ripe, fruit driven flavours. The style is bright, fragrant and varietal with the emphasis on fruit richness, giving the wine lover a delicious wine experience at an affordable price.
Founded by brothers Kym and John Davey, Shingleback Winery sources from their family-owned estate vineyard on land their grandfather purchased in the 1950s. The Davey Estate Vineyard is located at the southern end of the acclaimed McLaren Vale Wine region in South Australia. As brothers, John and Kym are two very different characters. John, the perfectionist winemaker, and Kym, the adventurous idea man, don’t agree on everything, but they are both dedicated to producing outstanding wines from the land they love.
Let the Davey brothers introduce you to McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s most renowned wine growing areas. During the 1990s, Kym & John Davey brought their combined expertise in winemaking, farming & business to continue & develop the estate first farmed by their Grandfather in 1957. Their goal was, and remains, to produce affordable, quality wines that express the true character of McLaren Vale.
The sustainably managed family estate has a predominantly Shiraz & then Cabernet Sauvignon focus. The smaller plantings of Chardonnay & Semillon also benefit from John’s fastidious winemaking skills, instilled during his early days as a specialist white winemaker.
From it’s genesis in 1998, when the first wine (Shingleback Shiraz) was released under the Shingleback label, the Shingleback portfolio has grown into a collection of fine wines that include Shingleback, Haycutters, Red Knot and The Gate. Each made in its distinct style, these wines showcase the best the McLaren Vale region has to offer. They also represent a family committed to producing outstanding wines from the land they love.

@Boatman72 @rjquillin @chipgreen My LW received an email from the proprietor, Ken Bogucki, last summer indicating that his lease was not being renewed, and he would be out as of the end of the year. Apparently, The Powers That Be have plans, detailed to some degree in an news article I just found: https://www.the-daily-record.com/news/20180823/wooster-inn-management-firm-out-at-years-end. That’s all I know. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for further developments.
@msten A great fellow, indeed. Hoping things work out for another spot for him. Always worth the drive from Buffalo when he was operating the Inn.

@chipgreen @ddeuddeg @msten WOW!!! The events and great gatherings there will be missed!!!

As long as there’s no other links, here’s some Cellar Tracker links that seem to be these two. I ordered the six-pack. What the heck, why not?
