Tuscany recommendations

Hi all! I’m headed to Tuscany in September. Florence for a few nights and then staying just outside Gaiole for a week. We will be doing day trips to different towns and wineries, with a full day in Montalcino. I’d love any winery (or activity) recommendations!

Don’t worry…I’ll leave the Lab Rat program in good hands.

- Enoteca la Fortezza in Montalcino is a great way to sample (and splurge on) many local wineries in one place.
- Salcheto, just outside Montepulciano, has a great tour of their unique facility, not to mention good Vino Nobile.
- Dei, a bit further afield between Montalcino & Montepulciano, is a hidden gem.
- Avignonesi, on the eastern border of Tuscany across the valley from Cortona, has a classic winery ambience as well as amazing tasting options. Their barrique-aged “occhio di pernice” vin santo is unbelievably good (it’s all good, really).
