I was surprised and excited when my hubby texted me letting me know a single bottle box arrived! Must be a bottle to rat I thought. I tried to get my regular helpers ie. Family, but only 2 were available. All of us drink more red. Full disclosure- I am at the end of a sinus infection, so my senses are a bit off.
Upon arriving home, I placed the bottle in the fridge (regular not wine) for about an hour before we tasted.
PNP-
Color- nice pale straw.
Aroma- sweet, yummy, granny smith apple, something floral maybe honeysuckle? it just smelled delicious.
Flavor- Light, crisp, slightly sweet (not sickly sweet) granny smith apple, mom tasted a bit of super ripe loquat. All this surprised me as I was remembering Sauvignon Blanc having more grassy flavor (which I don’t like)
We let the wine sit in our glasses and warm up a bit. The wine had an unusual aftertaste. Almost like a peach or apricot that was not quite ripe. That drying feeling/flavor when you eat not quite ripe stone fruit. It isn’t bad, just different.
Next we tried at room temperature. Wow, it really opened up and had a nice mellow crisp apple, apricot flavor. The finish was nice and smooth and there was no more slightly unripe fruit taste/feel.
Overall impression:
My dad- who is really a red drinker, really liked it. Which says a lot.
We feel this is a wine that would be great at the pool with a few pieces of frozen fruit to keep in nice and cold.
If you were inside - serving at room temperature.
We liked it super cold or room temperature. The in-between was not our favorite.
We didn’t have any time to try with food. It is a very light wine and would get lost with anything super bold.
This wine is light, but not to light or acidic and it has some complexity (not an overabundance).
Hopefully these notes make sense, it’s late.
Just a nice wine. We guessed a price point of $15.
How much more are you saving by buying a full case?

2018 Urgency Sauvignon Blanc by Shannon Ridge - $50 = 33.32%
Its 5:33 am. I got the OK to head out work a few hours early for some cough sleep. As I reflect on these past 24 hours of driving, parenting, picking up a box that unravels itself into a bottle of wine, and only 10 hours work; I sip on this interesting bottle of 2018 Urgency Sauvignon Blanc with a store bought pesto cheese ravioii.
Personally I’m a fan of Marloborough, NZ SB. It is apparent this is not from that area. I have had some really nice SB and have had the ones that reside second to the bottom shelf at the typical grocery store… in Las Vegas. SB is my go to white, but have not had any for 8 months. Onward to some notes, as this will be short. The ZZzzz’s are near.
Color: Pale straw like mentioned earlier
Nose: a nice aroma of pineapples, apricots, honeysuckle, did I just smell agave and think of a NICE tequilla for a sec?? IDK but I do know I’m liking the nose. Taste: Getting an initial smooth mouthfeel of apricot, the minerality gets a bit rough. I’m in between medium sweet and off dry. I want to say it ends short but I do get this subtle lingering lime/granny apple puckering note from mid palate to finish. These flavors are pretty light.
I’ve had it open for an hour drinking it by itself and with some of that pesto. By itself, I’m feeling like it’s lacking the punch that I would normally seek for in a SB. It reminded me of a cross between a SB and Pinot Grigio, but then again I’ve been up for the last 26 hours. With the pesto it gets better and brings out a pumpkin flavor I never knew existed in pesto. I’m going to put a cork on it for now and get some shut eye and come back in a few hours for some following notes.
Disclaimer: Drinking upon waking is probably not a good idea. My email came to my attention yesterday at 4pm, and because I’m signed up with FedEx alerts, packages are held when we’re away. Knowing this is one of those 24 hour deal days, Urgency calls for notes.
@TechnoViking Did you happen to order/taste the Alysian SB? I received it recently and really like it, but I am not a total fan of Marlborough - I like my SB more minerally. I thought the Alysian struck a great balance between some fruit and some mineral.
@TechnoViking nice review…in for a case. The wife likes SB and Pinot Grigio. Her fav is also Marlborough SB, but this sounds like it will hit the right notes for her.
@woopdedoo I have not. I’m sipping on the rest of this Urgency now. It has a saline like smoothness to it. Some subtle flavors as mentioned before. Your going to get some of that minerality and a subtle not over sweet profile. If I had room and wanted some more whites for 10 bucks… why not? Did it scream and say “you will miss me!” No. This not the kinda SB I’m looking for, however, what I like is not what everyone likes. I’m more into complex buttery SB profiles. Cheers.
Even before the URGENCY vineyard was planted, Clay Shannon’s instincts told him that the blend of volcanic soils would produce full, rich flavors and the long, warm summer days would ripen the grapes perfectly. This special piece of dirt creates wines that do not require long aging, the lush flavors show well upon their release.
Color: Pale straw, clear
Aroma: Fresh and bright, full of subtle citrus and crisp melon
Flavor: Bursting of pineapple and citrus with a hint of melon
Food Pairing: This wine is focused and fragrant while still extremely food-friendly. Our favorites are ceviche and shrimp tacos.
Vineyard and Winemaker’s notes
The grapes used to produce our 2018 URGENCY Sauvignon Blanc came from the hills and slopes of ultra-premium vineyards in Northern California. A blend from multiple vineyard sites was used to create complexity and balance.

At Shannon Ridge, we live in harmony with Mother Nature. The vineyards feed the sheep, the sheep feed the vines; lamb feeds the people, people drink the wine and wear wool.
We are dedicated to creating a family of wines that consumers love at top-quality and affordable prices. We are passionate about preserving our land, not only for great vineyard sites, but for the wild creatures which share our property. Our sustainability practices integrate a flock of sheep that clean the vineyards, remove the excess canopy, and reduce the need for chemicals, while providing natural fertilizer.

I kinda want Trader Joe’s opinion on this…I love Sauvignon Blancs and that’s my go to wine lately…but I have been disappointed by them in the past…although recently found a few recommended at Trader Joe’s that I love…anyone have more insight? or want to split in Dallas?
Or can I volunteer to be a Sauvignon Blanc lab rat?
Not a white wine drinker, but some family are. Upon receipt of these bottles should they be immediately refrigerated or can they be stored at room temp until I know they will be consumed? I apologize for my ignorance.
@the5balls You don’t have to refrigerate immediately, room temp is fine, just keep them from extreme heat. (Unless you were thinking of keeping them long-term, that is.)

Seeing the great case price, I’m in for a case.
Thank you to the Lab Rats for a quick turnaround on this!
@arianaWCC I completely forgot.
Thanks to the Casemates team for providing a unique opportunity to this wine community. Cheers!

Anyone in the Albany NY area interested in a split?
I really like the Urgency cab that Casemates offered in the past, plus the rats convinced me. In for a case
