Occasion? It had a cork that needed to be removed. At times Scott has it right; just drink.
Stopped by winex on my way back home after a source inspection at a pcb fabricator in Santa Ana. They were holding over a case of some older stuff, but had shorted me a bottle, and we started talking about what they had. Think I’m gonna order more today.

Pretty great wines imho from top to bottom, this bottle is the bottom $39 from JJ Buckley private client price, if Envoyer has them i’m sure they would be a couple of dollars cheaper I couldn’t wait
Last night, at a party, a bunch of Casemates/W.Woot faves, though the Scott came from WTSO:
Gruet Blanc de Blancs
Gruet Sauvage
2015 Scott Harvey Winemaker’s Reserve Zin
2013 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zin
Alysian Sauvignon Blanc
Forgot to take a picture for a full list, but some highlights from the Seattle gathering last night:
1992 Wellington Merlot
2001 Teldeschi Terranova
2002 Ardente Cab
2004 Beresan Stone River

We also had a couple Brian Carter Red Blends, Pedroncelli rose, a couple chards, a Rioja, and some others I can’t recall the details of this morning…
A couple of nice bottles tonight for the woman who gave me 3 daughters! I still don’t understand why she is so very happy to drink them when I get so much grief for buying said bottles? Such are the mysteries of married life Happy mothers day to all you mothers!
@CorTot@radiolysis@ScottW58 Well, the restaurant is defunct, but if I can find their list still on line I’ll link it, and we can have a walk down memory lane.
I went healthy tonight, butternut squash with onions apples bacon and bisquets on top The wine 2005 Bodegas Emilio Moro Ribera del Duero Malleolus de Valderramiro and pretty damn nice!
@Winedavid49
It’s coming along…it’s better right now on night two just reopened. It was aromatically shut down for part of the evening yesterday. It’s firming up as well, which was the thing I didn’t like about this blend when it was blended - didn’t seem like it had enough stuffing.
@ScottW58
Heh… maybe next time! Had a glass of Dry Creek The Mariner with dinner of filet with brussel sprouts and yukon gold mashers at Fleming’s then enjoyed the bubbly in bed while watching TV later on in the evening.
La Bulle-Moose de Cigare 2017 Fizzy Pink of the Earth, a 375 ml can. Highly recommended in the canned-wine category, even if he did carbonate it after the fact. Not very fizzy at all. With fried chicken (yes!) and greens. And an awesome frank and high-falutin’ beans.
Started out our travels today with a visit to a relative in post-surgical rehab in The Bronx, and ended up in the beautiful Berkshires, gravitating to menu items that amounted to a re-imagined Memorial-Day-weekend dinner. (Hummus is an all-American appetizer by now, isn’t it?)
So very sad to hear of Bill Buckner’s passing. One hell of a ball player and apparently an even better team mate. You deserved so much better, Bill. Rest in Peace.
2007 Core Hard Core
Interesting blend of 37% Mourvedre, 33% Cab Sauv, 26% Syrah, 4% Grenache. Wasn’t too sure what to expect based on the blend but it is very nice and has held up well despite the crumbling cork, which broke upon extraction. I really need to look for my ah-so…
@Winedavid49 Better now. The notes I had last year showed it was very alcoholic. I didn’t get any of that, and it seemed to be much more even keeled this time. Still had some cola flavor, but a little more depth.
@jmdavidson1
Delicious, first glass was pnp balance decanted. Was better after 45 minutes, will certainly hold another 4 or 5 years but if you have multiples I wouldn’t hesitate to start enjoying them periodically.
New Belgium Trippel. A gift from my late FIL. The beer expired 2 years ago, about 3 weeks after he did.
Still tasted pretty good after a 12.5 hour workday. Back at it at 5 am for a primary election tomorrow. This will probably be a 16 hour day.
Wish we were having Flannery tonight, but molarchae is not so into the red meat these days. At least not enough to justify a Flannery.

2010 Scott Harvey Reserve Zin
@ScottW58 In a blind taste date, there would be no doubt that it is Italian. Dark cherry, plum, leather, smooooth and an aroma you could enjoy all night. Gone. Gotta keep SWMBO happy.
@rjquillin
It worked well, I needed a white to go with the turkey. That being said I have no idea what to pair with Gewürztraminer? In fact I usually don’t like the variety. What do you pair with Gewurz?
@ScottW58 Was it an off-dry or sweeter?
Generally something more on the spicy/exotic end of things;
Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern, but wtf do I know.
@rjquillin@ScottW58
Gewurtz goes really well with turkey, actually. In general it goes well with strongly flavoured/spiced food, including Asian and Indian. But if you’re having something hot with capsaicin, then you want an off-dry Gewurtz…
1998 Rubissow-Sargent Les Trompettes
with Flannery burgers, grilled corn and German tater salad.

day two and it’s a fine old bottle with the initial nastiness gone.
Pleased I got a few.
CT Barrel Project Merlot DuBrul Vineyard the Merlot comes from the original hillside planting from 1992, rows 10 and 11. Well I know exactly where it came from, great with burgers

2013 Peterson Barbera La Stupenda with pucker up salad (love that house Italian!) and salmon salsa rosa. Dining with my date for the evening…please meet Mr May!

Lago is about as old school as it gets…right down to the red and white checkered vinyl table cloths. Been there since ~1952…third generation, family owned. Classic Italian. Nothing fancy, just plain good. They don’t charge me corkage (I let them drink with me ).
This scene from Mad Dog and Glory was actually filmed there.
@Winedavid49 it was good. Low tannin and fruity but balanced. Played very well with the balsamic reduction, which I was a little worried about. After a few hours it got extra berry flavors which was great as an after dinner glass.
A couple of prime tomahawks getting ready to grill…
@ScottW58 looking good!

Love that Mother Clone Zin!
@chipgreen We opened the Scott first, I actually enjoyed the Pedroncelli more.

Scott’s WTSO Zins are my least favorite of his Zinfandels. They’re still good, just not as good as his others IMO.

Someone brought over the Stella rosa black. WTF is it! So confused by what it’s an attempt at and why it’s sold everywhere…
@CorTot luckily I’ve avoided the Stella Rosa / Apothic / Menage a Trois bottles at parties. Some people really love them though
@radiolysis I’ve had the ménage before and it’s at least wine. I can’t say the same about the Stella rosa.
@CorTot @radiolysis I’ve tried the Apothic a couple of times, at a restaurant with good food and a lousy wine list. It was the least bad choice.
@CorTot @InFrom @radiolysis
That my dear is very hard to believe!
@CorTot @radiolysis @ScottW58 Well, the restaurant is defunct, but if I can find their list still on line I’ll link it, and we can have a walk down memory lane.

Looking forward to it
