Good to be back home in SC, Shrimp Country…was a tough day on the beach watching them shrimpers, so went to my guy and grabbed a few, a little lemon garlic pasta
@kaolis@rjquillin
As you know retirement is a tough job and I am very happy to see you taking it seriously! Great setting great looking meal and how was that beauty of a bottle? Very jelly
@kaolis oh sure you get great shrimp and stone crab! I hope you’re happy with yourself! No worries on the green stuff as it’s properly placed on its own plate
Sunrise over Myrtle Beach
Party over here!

My blushing bride on our wedding day, 10 years ago, October 8, 2016.
Our happy place. We have been to at least a dozen unique Ruth’s Chris restaurants, in at least 6 different states.
2008 Robert Craig Howell Mountain Cab, purchased on the 2012 RPM Magical History Tour. Paired with Filet Mignon, garlic mashers, brussel sprouts and chocolate mousse cheesecake. Delicious!
We had a bottle of 2010 Wedding Cuvee at each table at our reception, and a 3L at our table. This one is our wedding year!
@chipgreen Happy Anniversary! We visited South Myrtle Beach for a week a number of years ago. They were dredging the ocean to “replenish” the eroded beaches. Many “beachcombers” walking the areas where the dredging was being deposited. We were told that the dredgers would hear cannonballs being pumped through the metal pipes. Remember enjoying a dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse for our anniversary dinner. We’ve also enjoyed those Mulderbosch Rosés on “lunch cruises” on our pontoon boat on Lake of the Ozarks for several years now.
Took the better half out for a belated anniversary dinner at a local spot that is supposed to be all that! Well the bottle was much better than the food oh well
@hscottk@klezman@rjquillin
Thanks everyone! 33 years good Lord who would have thunk it when we make it back to chicago we will bring our best riesling for Leah!
@hscottk@klezman@rjquillin@ScottW58 A bit late to add my “Happy Anniversary!” (knee replacement has a way of messing with my schedule). 33 years is a good start – we just hit 48 (two days after I got my new knee)!
@rjquillin hanger rut is a-ok in my book, easy to do and you’re nailing it…never had EMH but they do take time if I recall chatter…love the grilled pineapple
@jmdavidson1
OMG, now I’ve got to see if I can find my '98s.
With a name like this, who’d have thunk.
CT locations from around then are sketchy at best.
@klezman@Mark_L@ScottW58 Used to have nice season tickets at the old Chicago Stadium, then the move to the United Center we got screwed on our seating… gave up the tix haven’t been to a game since not that I hold grudges
@chipgreen even with years of questionable storage (styro but in my old office with notoriously terrible a/c) this was great. Fairly evolved towards the late teenage years, lots of depth and density still and no lack of fruit.
@kaolis@klezman@ScottW58 I have many fond memories of watching the Blackhawks at the “Madhouse on Madison” (probably mid-70s through 80’s). Esposito, Bannerman, Belfour, Laramer, Doug Wilson, Magnuson, Secord, Bob Murray, Behn Wilson, “Charlie” Manson, and so many more. We would often get tickets from a “scalper” we found outside (“Tom, the ticket man” who always had a toothpick sticking out of his mouth), often around the blue line in the main section in the “drip line” of the balcony. And that theater organ with pipes in the ceiling over the ice…
Haven’t been doing much cooking lately (too damn hot) but drank a killer resiling and champagne the last couple days. Tomorrow doing a leg of lamb on the rotisserie so that will be fun.
@kaolis
Well happy anniversary to you guys too! She crab soup yum, Fripp island seaside simplicity, I knew you were simple man even with your high faluten wines and travel ha. You guys are killing me with all these pics of the ocean! Hope that hurricane doesn’t come your way. Is that the first Fingers crossed release?
@ScottW58@hscottk Thanks! First vintage for me, but several before, first one I cracked, haven’t had a red yet…was a pretty good match for both dishes…a tad of maybe heavy rain and breeze here anticipated is all. Y’all know where you live when there is a hurricane ready to hit and no one talking about landfall but if Georgia / Alabama will play as scheduled
2019 Casa Primicia Rioja Crianza. A souvenir of our trip to Maine last summer, where we get to shop in a Costco that sells alcohol, always a treat for us deprived New Yorkers. For $10, we figured it would be great mixed with lemon soda, but it turns out to be a very decent bottle on its own.
The benefits or disbenefits of having a large and largely disorganized cellar.
Had this Macchia, Amador County Port style wine the other night at a birthday party. I had found it among my Ports, and since it was a 2005, I had no idea if it would be good…it was fabulous!
I also found 3 bottles of Maggio (2 2011 PS and a 2011 Merlot). At that same party, I cracked open one of the PS bottles, and it was horrible. It had some putrid odor that I couldn’t identify. Tonight, I opened the 2009 Merlot, and it is very good. Maggio is a Lodi winery selling inexpensive Lodi wine. It’s OK… But, I stashed these 3 bottles because my Uncle-in-law is named Maggio, and I intended to make the cute little fairy lights in the bottle for him, and finally got a round tuit.
A fun bottle of fizzy, dry Lambrusco. At a restaurant called Fuzi, no relation.
Excellent pork chop, with agridolce pears and risotto.
Spaghetti with duck sausage, etc.
Fun to support a local place with high ambitions.
Yesterday, brought up two bottles from the wine cellar, JDusi’s 2017 Sly, and JDusi’s 2021 The Other Brother, now wife has to plan meals this week to complement them.

@kaolis clearly life can be challanging
@kaolis @rjquillin
As you know retirement is a tough job and I am very happy to see you taking it seriously! Great setting great looking meal and how was that beauty of a bottle? Very jelly
@kaolis Outstanding cuisine, big boy bottle. Enjoy.
yeah yeah lots of green stuff…fennel/cucumber/avocado
@kaolis That’s a beautiful salad, and Mr. Crabby looks pretty good too.
@kaolis oh sure you get great shrimp and stone crab! I hope you’re happy with yourself! No worries on the green stuff as it’s properly placed on its own plate

@chipgreen Happy Anniversary, and may there be many more!

@chipgreen Happy anniversary!

@chipgreen Happy anniversary, you two crazy kids!
@chipgreen Happy Anniversary! We visited South Myrtle Beach for a week a number of years ago. They were dredging the ocean to “replenish” the eroded beaches. @chipgreen Happy anniversary chip! Nice work. I will forever recognize those yellow beach umbrellas being at The Myrtle Beach shore
@chipgreen This is Casemates anniversary month! We’re cued up later this month. Enjoy the big 1-0!
@chipgreen @InFrom Cheers to a bunch more…
@chipgreen
Celebrate!
Thanks to all for the well-wishes!
@chipgreen Happy Anniversary to you both!
Took the better half out for a belated anniversary dinner at a local spot that is supposed to be all that! Well the bottle was much better than the food oh well

@ScottW58
Of course it was; it wasn’t a house wine!
@rjquillin @ScottW58 Happy Anniversary!
@hscottk @rjquillin @ScottW58 happy anniversary! We miss you guys

@hscottk @klezman @Mark_L @rjquillin @ScottW58 Congrats! We’re 38 next week, and I’m not talking about years old ha!
@hscottk @kaolis @klezman @Mark_L @rjquillin @ScottW58
Happy Anniversary to you both!
10 years for us, also next week. But we have been together 29 years.
@chipgreen @hscottk @klezman @Mark_L @rjquillin @ScottW58 hey what’s the hurry right?
@chipgreen @hscottk @kaolis @klezman @Mark_L @rjquillin
Eh none of you look a day over 40! Me on the other hand
@chipgreen @hscottk @kaolis @klezman @Mark_L @ScottW58
Yet another late congrats; and it made me think.
While we’ve been together since '84, only married in '14, so now I guess a bit over 40 years here.
I had no idea…
Seems I’m hangaring in a rut lately; that EMH is still rather primary, or perhaps just in a dumb phase.
@rjquillin hanger rut is a-ok in my book, easy to do and you’re nailing it…never had EMH but they do take time if I recall chatter…love the grilled pineapple

@rjquillin I think I got this one from Garagiste.
@jmdavidson1 Same here, $35
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
Prison wine!
Back in the saddle again! Leg of lamb on the rotisserie. And using half the coals

@ScottW58 Looks delicious!
@klezman @ScottW58 oh damn that looks awesome…soft spot for Spottswoode…and yes you have been in Hades your way, repent while you can!
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
Royer 548 Chardonnay and ‘19 Elkhorn Pinot with Maine lobsters (and clams,sausage, hotdogs, potatoes and onions).
Simple tonight, some Costco ribs, beans, potato salad, okra with 2006 McCrea Syrah Boushey Vineyard
2007 Victory with Wagyu rib steak from Costco and some fondant potatoes
And a Leafs win!
@klezman man everybody rockin’ it, that looks perfect
@klezman
Great work! And go Leafs well as long as they don’t beat my kings
@klezman @ScottW58 We Blackhawks fans continue to suffer.
@klezman
Looks great! How’s that Victory holding up?
@klezman @Mark_L @ScottW58 Used to have nice season tickets at the old Chicago Stadium, then the move to the United Center we got screwed on our seating… gave up the tix haven’t been to a game since not that I hold grudges

@kaolis @Mark_L @ScottW58 was going to go next month to see the Leafs but I’m traveling for work.

With sirloin steak. Really nice.
@msten that’s a nice bottle
Haven’t been doing much cooking lately (too damn hot) but drank a killer resiling and champagne the last couple days. Tomorrow doing a leg of lamb on the rotisserie so that will be fun.

Damn I think I recall sharing Oct 8 with Mr Chip…
She crab, North Carolina brook trout, pork schnitzel
@kaolis

Happy Anniversary! Everything looks great!
@kaolis Happy Anniversary!
Happy anniversary to all y’all!
Pork chops and 2015 Domaine des Entrefaux Crozes-Hermitage. This is a great bottle from a garagiste mystery case.
@klezman sounds great, and I’m more than a bit challenged on bottles of rhone
Won’t knock your socks off but solid wine at $30…and a surprisingly tasty little tenderloin tail picked up at Harris Teeter
@kaolis nice! Damn I passed on that one on tso and I’m guessing none left.
@ScottW58 still available if you really want any, not sure if this link works
https://www.wtso.com/wine-search?terms=Faug#product_id=89858
@kaolis thanks got a couple, damn case club!
Some meat some grilled oysters and some gougère’s, a tough evening of cooking

@ScottW58 damn you were a busy boy… living under a rock never heard of the cheese puffs, all looks delish. And a damn nice bottle
@kaolis @ScottW58
Yeah, who knew? Also, love the oyster pan!
2023 Tercero mourvèdre rose
The end of that Wm. Harrison Cab and a 2013 Wellington Syrah, Charlie Walker’s Corner
Syrah heavy, really pretty good.
@msten I have liked those bottles a lot! Have not seen one in a while.
@msten @ScottW58 agree

@InFrom
In Ohio, we can buy beer and wine at Costco, but no hard liquor.
This is the second bottle of the vertical. Both have been very good. With a roster chicken.
@msten that was a really fun lab rat experience
@klezman @msten Wtso had a few vintages for a bit, almost grabbed some several times never did

@FritzCat sweet on that TUIT,
I need to start collecting them
Trying out the new oven with pizza. Damn, what a difference a high end oven makes.
2018 Under The Wire Bedrock Vineyard Zinfandel
@klezman
Pics or it didn’t happen!
A fun bottle of fizzy, dry Lambrusco. At a restaurant called Fuzi, no relation.

Excellent pork chop, with agridolce pears and risotto.
Spaghetti with duck sausage, etc.
Fun to support a local place with high ambitions.
@InFrom fizzy fuzy… chop dish looks righteous
@InFrom @kaolis
Yes I think righteous is the right word here! And supporting the local business nice.
@InFrom
Yum!
Had to get the picture of the Maggio.
Yesterday, brought up two bottles from the wine cellar, JDusi’s 2017 Sly, and JDusi’s 2021 The Other Brother, now wife has to plan meals this week to complement them.
@winecaseaholic I was wondering what early bird already had an October bottle to report!
2015 Easton Old Vine Zin, Rinaldi Vineyard
These are consistently excellent and age really well.
Let’s try this again…
@rjquillin
Nice looking sausages!
@chipgreen @rjquillin betting bottle was a nice match
@chipgreen @kaolis
Could have used a touch more acid; otherwise, yes.
@rjquillin good job Ron hope you like the mustard
@ScottW58 Yes, thanks
After a hard day of golf this beauty is just what the doctor ordered! Wish I could get more.
