Had some 2014 Siduri RRV Pinot Noir at dinner after the Indians playoff loss yesterday. Carlos Baerga was at the restaurant too and my wife just happened to be wearing his jersey, which he signed. He even came over to our table a bit later and gave us each an autographed pic. Nice guy!
@jmdavidson1@ScottW58
I remember back when cool was still cool but I got made fun of by someone about 5 years younger than me for saying “neat”. That made me feel old and I was only around 30 at the time. I still feel 30-ish in my head but my body knows that ain’t right!
2009 Eagles Trace Latitude 38.
Eagles Trace was founded by longtime Conn Valley residents Gus & Phyllis Anderson. Gus passed away in late 2016 at age 86. Gus enjoyed a successful career as founder and winemaker for Anderson’s Conn Valley until his retirement at age 72. Most 72 year old’s are quite comfortable with retirement at this age, but not Gus. After a year of retirement he had the wine making itch so strong that he started Eagles Trace, at the time a completely new winery located next to Anderson’s Conn Valley. This new winery allowed him to implement some very creative wine making practices. Thanks to TSO for selling many vintages and types (CS, PN, Lat 38, etc.), at a greatly reduced price, we all got to appreciate this venture.
@jmdavidson1@ScottW58
Love the Eagles Trace wines, when TSO was selling them off I stocked up on pretty much all that was offered. Have drank cases and still have cases, all of them have been delicious.
I agree on the ACV, generally a good QPR
@rc70 Good call on picking up cases. I only went in on 3 or 4 packs of different vintages. Woulda, coulda, shoulda…And they seem to be holding up very well, which should come as no surprise for a well-made wine.
This is like the 3rd time they have done this. I think Clark and/or Sandra forgets that UPS doesn’t ship to OH via standard Ground in the same amount of time as they do to San Diego and Seattle!
@chipgreen@rjquillin I think there’s also a degree of forgetting what day it is, and when the sale begins and ends. I had a reminder email in my Inbox this morning, telling me that the sale ends tonight. That’s consistent with the WineSmith we know and love!
@rjquillin
GSO - I had to look that up, never even heard of it. I guess they operate in CA, NV and AZ, “Overnight Services”. Weird that they would spring for Overnight on relatively local delivery but then ship UPS Ground to Ohio. I got the email on Thursday that it was coming and replied to Sandra within hours that it would not arrive in time as the tracking was already live. She never responded back…
@chipgreen@rjquillin GSO is cheaper within CA compared to ground service via FedEx etc. It’s not “springing” for overnight, it’s just the cheapest option.
@InFrom They made a delivery attempt yesterday but I wasn’t home from work yet. If the scheduled delivery had been during the offer I would have had it held for pickup.
@chipgreen@InFrom@rjquillin@klezman Just an FYI but GSO has been expanding their service in recent years. See service areas here One can only hope they continue expanding, since they do a really good job with wine deliveries at a very reasonable cost.
@ScottW58
I was finishing up a glass that was left on the counter overnight and it was still surprisingly good. I may have even topped it off with some fresh wine after an initial taste, I don’t remember.
Overall the wine tastes relatively young with bright cherry notes, medium oak and firm tannins. There is a definite bret component, or “barnyard funk” as I like to call it.
@InFrom@ScottW58
Haha, I didn’t realize it was going to be so big. Took it for CT purposes then posted here as well. I knew how to specify image size on WW but not sure how or if we can do that here.
2015 Bella Grace Winery Bella’s Red. Purchased on the Tour this year.
2016 Levesque Estates Reserve Vidal Icewine - hoping it’s better than the Cab Sauv!
Menu for tonight: (Appetizer) canned sardines in olive oil and crostini, (main course) grilled lemon chicken, grilled zucchini, spaghetti squash with alfredo. Perfect night for a white wine. But no. Just before dinner, I got an email from Steve at Congruence saying that he was almost out of wine. So, I HAD to open that last bottle of 2009 Congruence CS.
@jmdavidson1@klezman@radiolysis
All told, a couple of mixed cases of the '08, '09, '11 CS and the '11 Coombsville. He had run out of the two Cuvee bottlings.
@jmdavidson1@klezman@radiolysis@rjquillin
I hate you guys! ok I just ordered 4 of the 08,09 and 11 Coombsville. Sorry Jim when I receive I will post a picture of each one 3 nights in a row

2016 Domaine Proux Var
2013 Transcendence Syrah Rancho Ysidro Vineyard
2011 Ghost Signs Petite Sirah
@bolligra Last evening while I was handling a business dinner, wife grabbed my 2011 Torcido and opened it. It was not in the ‘open at will’ section of the rack, but I got home in time to enjoy a glass with some left for tonight. Wow, really nice Grenache.
@pjmartin I liked the Torcido, but it was a little hot, at least at first. I like that you have an ‘open at will’ section, even though you’re the only one aware of it.
2009 Wellington Englandcrest Syrah
With Grilled Sirloin Steak, Baked Sweet Potatoes
Steamed Brussel Sprouts and Artichokes.
Wow! What a mouthful of flavor. Now I’m glad
I’m sitting on a ton of Wellington. No pun intended.

2014 Dover Canyon zin - dusi vineyard
2016 Bernardus Rose PN -SLH
2016 Rock wall wine co Viognier livermore valley - kristens vineyard
With BBQ’d pork chops w/ and herb butter and roasted veggies and home made bread rosemary bread. With some friends. The Materra and Dover were on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
My new go to at the local seafood restaurant (Water Grill) is Patient Cottat Sancerre Anciennes Vignes 2017. Love the way the Sauvignon Blanc pairs with cocktail shrimp with a hint of lemon or the sauce they make witrh vinegar and purple onions. Then the 1/2 dozen oysters (each is a different one, they have over 20 different varieties).
Then finished off with a pour of Chateau Romer 2013 Sauternes, my new favorite style of wine.
Been sipping on some 2013 Woot Cellars Zinfandel Vinitwo del Finito the last 2 nights. I haven’t been drinking too much wine lately. That head cold time of year, every year…
2012 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino, good but young.
2006 Tenute Loacker Brunello di Montalcino Corte Pavone, in its prime window imho, beware lot of sediment.
2003 Ridge Paso Robles Zin
Turns out it’s all fruit from Dusi Ranch…this is delicious. It will probably go well with the ribs that are currently cooking.
For dessert, 2013 “Levesque Estates” Select Late Harvest Cab Sauv, Niagara-on-the-Lake. The winery is in quotes because it’s an off-label.
The wine is good, and certainly a reasonable $15 wine. But it doesn’t get the kind of awesomeness that a proper SLH from Niagara should have.
Last night:
2010 WineSmith Cab Franc
2013 Wellington Handal-Denier Cab Sauv
Paired with ma’ special seasoned ribeyes grilled zucchini and bell peppers. Flatbread and hummus.
Had a friend come by for family dinner and she loved the WS CF. It is doing much better now than before IMO.
@chipgreen
It ain’t Pinot noir that’s for sure, kind of like trousseau and Grenache had a baby pretty rare grape from what I understand. This bottle was pretty fantastic after a couple hours of air.
Spent a few nights in Zurich for work…lots of new to me varieties in various Swiss (and one Spanish) wine. Garanoir was pretty good. This random indigenous blend from Mallorca was solid as well.
@radiolysis we picked up a case last year just after thanksgiving and they sold through quick! I’d call and have set some aside or order for you in mid November.
@CorTot@radiolysis I forgot to look closely for it at TJ’s today. But the turkey stock is out, so this can’t be more than a couple more weeks away. My first purchase of it last year was on November 4. There were more still around Xmas time, so I was able to add a couple more on Dec 22.
Just opened a One Hope red blend. To bad I didn’t get more, I think this would be a hit at Thanksgiving. Will see how the profile changes as it comes to room temp.

I hope your experience with South Carolina wines was better than ours. We went to a winery in Myrtle Beach where they made about 2 dozen wines and I think at least 20 of them were made from Muscadine. Basically the same wines with different labels. Did not like.
2001 Pratesi Carmione Rosso Toscano. (SW58, you would love this one.) In a perfect place, i.e., the fruit has not faded and the tannins are soft, and just enough of the Italian funkiness that can be in their wines. Went well with a plate of cheeses and salami.
Last weekend a group of old and some young guys did an old Bordeaux dinner…started with some Sancerre.
2014 Lucen Crochet SB
2016 Boulay Mont Dammes
2015 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Aile d’ Argent (really good)

1985 Rausan-Segla
1986 Chateau Latour
1989 Pichon Longueville
1998 Chateau Magdeline
2000 La Louvere
and to finish
2001 Chateau Suduirau Sauternes
2009 Chateau de Farges
All the wines drank very well! Good times and some pics.

And you gotta eat!
@ScottW58
Thanks for the memories. We drank the Chateau La Lagune 89’ a couple years back.
@TechnoViking
Great stuff! Had a 73 a couple months ago and it was rocking. They seem to live forever
@ScottW58 I’m both glad and sad I don’t mingle with the same group of ballers you have there.
It would be costly!
@rjquillin
Oh I’m pretty sure that you spend as much on wine as I do if not a lot more
Had some 2014 Siduri RRV Pinot Noir at dinner after the Indians playoff loss yesterday. Carlos Baerga was at the restaurant too and my wife just happened to be wearing his jersey, which he signed. He even came over to our table a bit later and gave us each an autographed pic. Nice guy!

@jmdavidson1 Good call JM!
@ScottW58 And, the ACV wines, (CS, Rt Bank, CF, Eloge), IMHO, are some of the finest.

Well now that you have got me thinking about them I will have to pop an ACV or Trace tommorow
Last night, 2011 Wellington Cabernet Sauvignon, Dry Creek Valley, Handal-Denier Vineyard…on the way to the Elton John concert.
To celebrate getting the winning charity auction bid on the two night stay at the Scott Harveys, we are drinking a 2013 Syrah (Amador County)
@jmdavidson1
Good on you JM! Good cause to support
@jmdavidson1 Congratulations!
@jmdavidson1 Now I need some of the RPM folks to make recommendations for wineries to visit. Maybe I’ll start a post.
@jmdavidson1 Acquiesce for one!
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
Are they in Lodi or Amador?
@chipgreen Not sure. Details I guess will follow. All the offer had was that it is at their private 3 bedroom guest house at the winery.
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1 The winery is in Amador. Lodi is a bit of a drive, but, imo, worth it based on what we were offered on tour.
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 We should convince them to come via SoCal so we can share a bunch of bottles!
Finished off a bottle of Pouracle that I opened a few days ago. Still quite yummy
@rc70 @chipgreen
Just a WS kind of day it seems.
Still sipping on the Meritage, and liking where it’s going.

@jmdavidson1 @klezman Either of you go and get more from the ‘final offer’ sale?
@jmdavidson1 @klezman @radiolysis

LOL, no. I thought about bringing some but didn’t. Totally different group of people than the “Vikings”.
@chipgreen @InFrom was it Autumnal?

@radiolysis Was there a CM offer on that? Or is that what’s coming up tonight?
@klezman “Magnifico”, great price, summer’s over – can’t just be a coincidence.
@klezman total coincidence if it is. We visited Ed and crew in May and I got another case. It’s a great wine.
@radiolysis might as well post a review!
Delayed in Dulles airport…a decent mixed drink and some Dickel Rye.
2001 Wellington Victory because it’s October 7th.
@TimothyB Clarification?
Is today Peter’s birthday or something?
@klezman No, nothing to do with Peter - just because it was six months after April 7th…
My new go to at the local seafood restaurant (Water Grill) is Patient Cottat Sancerre Anciennes Vignes 2017. For dessert, 2013 “Levesque Estates” Select Late Harvest Cab Sauv, Niagara-on-the-Lake. The winery is in quotes because it’s an off-label.

2005 Thirteen Appellations Fourteen (Napa). I would say it is in its prime. Just delicious.
@jmdavidson1
Wow I guess I drank mine to young although I liked mine 8 years ago kind of a fun idea 13 appellations.
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58
Why does this not at all surprise me…?
Popped a bottle of 2007 Summerland Trio (GSM blend) last night. Wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised once it opened up a little.
After reading the news about the WW forum changes and the lost emails, I needed a drink. Casemates purchase…2011 Keller Estate Rotie.
Some local wine with dinner. Never heard of this variety.
2008 Wellington victory
Something I don’t do often…something different with grilled salmon.
@ScottW58
I like Pinot Noir with salmon and other fish but don’t think I’ve tried pairing Cab. What is a Pfeffer?
@chipgreen
It ain’t Pinot noir that’s for sure, kind of like trousseau and Grenache had a baby pretty rare grape from what I understand. This bottle was pretty fantastic after a couple hours of air.

2012 Eberle Cotes de Robles Blanc
The very last of last years TJs brut rose. Really looking forward to stocking up again this year.
@CorTot when does that start getting released? We get to TJs infrequently so I’ll need to make a scheduled trip.
@radiolysis we picked up a case last year just after thanksgiving and they sold through quick! I’d call and have set some aside or order for you in mid November.

I hope your experience with South Carolina wines was better than ours. We went to a winery in Myrtle Beach where they made about 2 dozen wines and I think at least 20 of them were made from Muscadine. Basically the same wines with different labels. Did not like.
@klezman
Yes.
@chipgreen
Actually not bad. Scuppernong is a type of white Muscardine, but not too my taste.
Their red went well with the summer salami.
The Basque Blend seemed to be liked the most of the wines. The dessert Tannat was empty though.
But I did make the 200 club with the Scuppernong, plus 3 additional ones (1 from BB, 2 from the Melnik red).
The Bobal was a rosè … and best left silent.

2001 P. Licht-Bergweiler Brauneberger Mandelgraben Riesling Spätlese
2013 Pedroncelli Cabernet Franc Barrel Select
2001 Pratesi Carmione Rosso Toscano. (SW58, you would love this one.) In a perfect place, i.e., the fruit has not faded and the tannins are soft, and just enough of the Italian funkiness that can be in their wines. Went well with a plate of cheeses and salami.
@jmdavidson1
Mmm sounds great! Where the hell did you get that? Only 2 vintages available in the world. And none in the states.
@ScottW58 Benchmark bin sale.
@jmdavidson1 I had a feeling sure hope they have another sale soon!
