2008 Wellington Victory
My bottle this week (yes, I drink roughly one a week hush) is the Parducci Small Lot Rosé offered on CM a while back. Started it last night with some Chicken Marsala. As I thought, I really, really enjoyed it at various temperatures. I like that odd finish that some warned of in the Rattage, though, so it may not be for everyone. Looking forward to that and the NWN Riesling as my summer wines this year! (Granted it’s not summer yet, but I was really in a Rosé mood and we did have a heat spell last week, so…)
@tklivory And that is precisely why it’s important for rats to describe their impressions with as little judgement as possible. And to compare it to the things they enjoy, but recognizing the difference between “objective” and “subjective” evaluations. (Air quotes because truly anything sensory is subjective.) My wife’s extreme distaste for bitterness leads her to dislike things that wouldn’t bother many (most?) people.
In short, glad you enjoyed it! I had my bottle of it a few days ago and enjoyed it as well.
Finally the occasion to open a 2008 Congruence Cab. Y’all weren’t making it up - this is delicious. On the one hand I wonder what it’ll be like in 10 more years, but on the other hand why take the chance with it being so good now?

2007 Parallel CS Napa Valley. From Paul Menke. Just a solid CS.
Last night was a bottle of 2012 Wellington Petit Verdot. Popped the cork at 1:30, started decanting at 6:30, poured into glasses at 8:30. Absolutely delightful. The tannins were still stiff but not biting. Earthy, leathery and
bone dry, with a hint of dust. There was some hint of dark fruit in the past, but no RS that I could detect. Really, really wonderful, and should be delightful for years to come.
It cooled off to about 76 degrees so i’m back in the saddle again! With rib eyes and baked potatoes. Man when you pop this cork the unmistakable smell of Cabernet comes flying out of the bottle, so glad to have these

Tonight with some beautiful prime 30 day dry aged rib eyes from my local butcher a 2015 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno, sure smells good in the decanter!

Last I had the Monastrell Cockamamie back in July, just fine. Those twist offs seem to keep the contents nearly fresh as released, as some that grabbed that 2006 Buena Vista Ramal years ago can attest to.

Holding up very well, Blueberries, plums, pepper probably go at least another year or two without a problem. I don’t expect the other 5 will last beyond July, excellent BBQ wine.

@rc70 How is the 11 Notre Vin drinking? I’ve picked up some 10’s and 12’s.
Drinking well, 45 minute decant and dark fruits came alive. The 11 seems more old world style than the 10 or 12 - maybe not as fruit forward.
I have more 10 11 12 so I guess when weather gets a little better I’ll round up a couple of my Cab buddies and have them bring some nice steaks and do a vertical tasting… if you ever find yourself in Salt Lake City let me know.

That arugula and goat cheese is looking darn tasty.
@rjquillin I cook them right on the (gas) grill grates. Also drizzled some fig preserve on top. The pizza crusts are Pastorelli Ultra Thin. I use an IR gun so I make sure the surface temp is 450 and they take about 4 1/2 minutes (closed lid) to toast up the crusts to crispy. I make a pretty good BBQ chicken pizza the same way (bacon included).

@rjquillin First that we’ve had this and we really liked it. Shared it with friends who had prepared chicken cordon bleu.
You know that thing where you think you’re going to have a nice, light, carefully crafted Pinot Noir to go with a delicious, take-out Peruvian rotisserie chicken, and you end up opening a 2013 Black Pearl blend from S. Africa, 58% Shiraz and 42% CS, 15% AbV? It’s another case of the best-laid plans of mice and men. The specs sheet says only 3.4 g/l of RS, but it’s so sweet! Is that because, fruit? Tasty, though. I got it during a Last Bottle marathon a year or so ago. It wasn’t a bad match for the chicken, just a lot bigger and bolder of a wine than I’d planned. Because you know that thing where you look at Cellartracker and carefully consider which bottle to pull, then grab the first thing that catches your eye, instead?
Jamon, and other goodies, arrived.
Now, to figure out what to do with them.

48ᵒC?? Wow that’s cool. How did you finish it? Did it bring up the internal temp much? I read that 55ᵒC is the place where beef fat gets melty and therefore juiciness is maximized.
@klezman couple minutes total on a blazing hot gas grill. Didn’t measure the internal temp but they were in the pot over seven hours. Guess I could have used the IR gun to do that. These were 6~7cm quite lean cuts and plenty juicy, while retaining some texture.
Still, the cheesecake stole the show.
I opened one of my precious Wellington Victory Reserves (a 2008). Life is good.

@rc70 My wife always liked Grenache (and GSMs), I thought they were okay. But 2011 Torcido out of that 2018 TO mystery case was absolutely delicious. Couple months ago we did the 2013 out of that same mystery case, and ditto. Best Grenache I’ve had, though admittedly I’ve only had like 7. I’ve had a fancier expensive one (gift from my boss) that was more complex and had that “expensive” taste, but the Torcido was yum yum yum (getting technical there, sorry.)

Went well with beef tenderloin, garlic mashed cauliflower, and green beans.

@jmdavidson1 This was great, if you like the toasty oak/vanilla style of cabs. I didn’t decant, but it seemed to open up after an hour.
2014 WineSmith Grenache Blanc de Noirs Of my two bottles of this, this is the one that arrived on a freezing day, with all the tartrate crystals swirling around in the bottle. But I gather that wouldn’t affect taste so, appearance notwithstanding – it was refreshing, but a little short on flavor and aroma. Faintly lemon, but not much else. Hoping the other bottle will have a little more going on.
2014 Campesino Baybos, 30 min decant. BlackBerry, anise, allspice. Medium finish. Very nice on its own, but I’ll wait at least another year for the next bottle.

Last night we had a 2013 Garon Cote-Rotie Les Triotes and a 2014 Bridge 1904 Cabernet.
The C-R was delicious. Sometimes I forget that younger wines are great drinking too!
The Bridge 1904 was also pretty yummy. Not one for the ages, but tasty juice from Vincent Arroyo.
Making French onion soup and thought this NV Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Grand Rosé would go nicely…sadly it’s fantastic and I will not have a drop left by the time the soup is done

It was wonderful, earthy dark fruits that really came alive about 30/45 minutes after opening. It was gone far to quickly, I myself did not get to enjoy as much of it as I was planning to as I was busy cooking on the grill and griddle and before I knew it it was gone.
On the plus side my friends all got to enjoy a fantastic wine and for me that’s what it’s all about, sharing experiences with friends and family.

@rc70 Reminds me of the '95 Wellington Syrah I got as the “library wine” in a mixed case. I tell people it’s like meeting a polite, refined, aged gentleman – no sharp edges, no cockyness, just smooth, mature, and a lot of wisdom to offer.
Still hot here so an English sparkler with Asian pork chops, this bottle is fair to middling compared to the first one I had but I will keep looking

Bailiwick cab franc is an excellent bottle of wine imho. I’m just glad I got a 6 pack before it was gone!

@ScottW58 As good as the one’s I’ve had from 07 and 09. Wine Access has them for $40 a bottle now. I’ve been able to get $50 credits out of them lately, so the price per has been less. Just ordered 4 more at an average ( with $50 credit) of $30@.

It’s drinking quite well. A bit reductive on opening (rubbery hints), but a bit of air and a splash decant is treating it quite nicely. Lots of savoury notes.
Looking forward to trying the 2011 Camp 4 - I find even with your extended ageing, I still like to let your wines sit a year or three before opening.

So yesterday my daughter asked if she could have a bottle of wine to drink with her 4 friends that were coming over, so I of course gave her a bottle that I don’t like thinking she will drink anything
Well damn they didn’t like it either so i’m attempting to drink the last 3/4 of the bottle and man it still sucks imho, down the drain 
The bottle you ask? 2011 Noceto Riserva Sangiovese blech once again imho. Don’t get me wrong I love Noceto and have over a case in my cellar, but this one is still…nope!

Bought it here (2/21). It delicious. Still seems pretty young for a 2008. I’d probably buy more if they reappeared. Dark cherry, a little earthy, good acid, tannins are smoothing out nicely. Pairing nicely with the dark chocolate peanut butter cups WD had over on woot a month or so ago.

I’ve heard good things about that wine how was it?
@ScottW58 it was very enjoyable; had a very pleasant earthiness, some spice, no bell pepper to speak of. Mouthfeel was a little thin with a short to medium finish. It paired very nicely with some manchego cheese.
We used a Vinturi, but I’d be curious what a 2 hour decant might do for this wine. I think it has several years left, so we’ll see what happens with my 2 remaining bottles.
Out to dinner tonight with another couple so we are bringing…drink one or both who knows?
Those Bailiwicks are tasty.

You know I generally love Clark’s wines. His Pinot is among my favorites.
This one just isn’t my cup of tea. It’s got a lovely nose, but to my palate, it reads as very tart. To the point of not really being able to pull out any particular flavor notes. Night two…same. My Facebook “memories” this morning indicated that I had a bottle exactly one year ago. I recall having the same impression then. Maybe Saint Laurent just isn’t for me.
@karenhynes @Winedavid49 I remember that there were two vintages he sold on Woot at different times, and in the more recent sale, his comments indicated that he’d gotten the hang of dealing with the grape in the latter vintage. I wasn’t too impressed with the one I bought, either.
I guess I should go back and look at CT, and the old comments, I may be mixing up the vintages.

I tried both the 2013 and 2014. I think I was a rat for the 2014, actually. I was in that minority that liked the 2013 better, for many of the reasons others might not have liked it as much.
@karenhynes Looking back at the past woots, I think I bought the deal with two of the '13 and a bottle of the '07 PN. Somehow I never put it into CT. Anyway, I’m pretty sure I still have the second bottle of the Saint Laurent.

Gary Vaynerchuk is selling new wines, Empathy. He’s got a White, a Rose and a Red. I got the Red and tasted along with Gary on-line. For $20 it’s a good wine, somewhere between Menage-a-Trois and High Flyer or Chappellet Mountain Cuvee. It doesn’t say, but it tastes like a good Zin blend.

I do like Gary V (and Chappellet’s Mountain Cuvee) but trying to stick to a SIWBM despite all the good deals going around right now.
@chipgreen I did sniffy-sniff, of course. I hear you on the deals…and on the SIWBM, but I’m an abject failure in that respect. My most recent purchases were a couple of 2016 and a couple of 2017 Vintage Ports. Good years for wines that I may never drink.
