1996 Wellington Vineyards Zinfandel Estate 100 Year Old Vines. From a 2017 w.woot mystery offer. Not bricked or raisiny, drinking just fine. Needed the ah-so to extract the cork, but no sediment or crystals in the bottle. The wine itself was fantastic. I lucked out with the library bottle in that box.
I’d put this up against some of the better Napa cabs I’ve had in recent years. I may have overcooked the Flannery ribeye but the wine did not disappoint. The porterhouse pork chop was a standout as well.

Well, not as racy as that giphy I got for the case, bit this is a clear step above the Gruet. Dry, has some stone fruits in there, light mousse, clean, crisp.
I’d buy again with no hesitation.

Childhood vacations were always by car, no matter how far. I remember we used to lay up on the “back windshield” (for lack of a better descriptor). I’m not certain the back seats even had seatbelts!

Spoke with Janae at Suncé to get some deets, as it’s no longer on their site, but it went for 32~40 and got a Gold at SF Chronicle Wine Competition. A bit hot at 15.5, but it blows off with a bit of time. RS at 0.04, so that’s easily at threshold but not at all overbearing. Not an InZin, but there are similarities. If that’s at all in your profile, this is a steal.

After the end of a 2014 Particular Old Vine Garnacha (thanks @cortot, been meaning to open one of these)
The Stolpman is very nice, I do get the carbonic sense but it largely goes away with a swirl of the glass. The bright red grenache fruit is in the front, some astringent tannin at the finish, but the familiar candied red cherries, maybe some raspberries too is there. Went well with the grilled chipolte chicken, peppers, onions and black beans. Color me happy.
Was looking for something to have with Keto Fathead Pizza and found a 2015 Kirkland Signature Chianti Classico Riserva that was due to be opened. A nice dinner on our gazebo amid the treetops.
@CorTot Yeah, nice wines all around, but I find they need 2-3 years from release (for the reds) for the fruit to integrate. Excellent value - the Pedroncelli of Anderson Valley.

I opened a 2009 Woodward Canyon Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon with no expectations, to have with our Tuna Sandwiches and Broccoli Salad. And…Wow, it was an excellent highly extracted, over-oaked incredibly well-balanced Washington Cabernet…that tasted more like Napa to me.
The good news is that I have four more!!!
I feel a Flannery coming on!

Tonight was the first time since mid-March that I’ve been able to eat at my little Italian joint across the street, live and in person. I’ve been supporting them as much as possible with carryout orders over the past few months (as well as their gofundme for the front house staff). They’re only allowed outdoor seating, but it was so good to see some of the house crew back and working. I missed my Lago people a lot.
It was really nice, at the end of the night, to sit with the owners, share a glass (or two) of wine, and let them know how great it was to see them having to turn away folks they didn’t have space to seat.
I hope each of you, at some point in your life, have a place that makes you feel like family. Lago is my “Cheers”. Everybody knows my name. I’m ways welcome. They treat me like family.

@hscottkThis is the recipe we have used. It says to use ground beef, chicken, or turkey, but we have generally used a pre-packaged combination of ground beef and pork.
@hscottk@pseudogourmet98 With this (and a number of dishes) we double the recipe (to make 8 servings), eat 2 for dinner, put 2 in the fridge (to eat 3 or 4 days later or so), and freeze 4 (in 2 separate dishes) for future dinners. Makes the effort of cooking much more worthwhile!
Shared a bottle of 2003 Wellington Vintage Port and some great cheese with friends this weekend. Port was delicious but dang, there was some significant stuff/sediment/film coming out of that bottle, the likes of which I’ve never encountered.

2014 Bell Cabernet - this one gets a big ol’ WTF from me. So. Much. Oak. Completely unlike every Bell I’ve ever tasted, and really hammers home the comment Anthony made a long time ago about shifting his style toward earlier consumption.

Moving on to a Garagiste mystery wine - 2016 Acacia Pinot Noir, RRV. Apparently this retails for $50, but that’s really hard to believe. (By that, I mean it’s listed on the website for that much or higher, but I can’t imagine anybody selling it for that much.)

Shared a bottle of 2003 Wellington Vintage Port and some great cheese with friends this weekend. Port was delicious but dang, there was some significant stuff/sediment/film coming out of that bottle, the likes of which I’ve never encountered.

Last night opened up one of our treasured Wellington’s. The 2012 Karren Vineyard Cab Sauvignon was tasting particularly smooth and flavorful. I hope we’ve got a few more of those stowed away.]
@benguin986 I checked CellarTracker, which says I have one of that vintage, in the office. Either it’s one of the few boxes I didn’t have time to haul home before the place sent everyone home in March, or it’s here at home and I’m just lousy at noting location changes. Hoping it’s the former.

started with a sampling of the Vigo Grenache Blanc from a few weeks ago. Refreshing but not interesting.
2014 Bell Cabernet - this one gets a big ol’ WTF from me. So. Much. Oak. Completely unlike every Bell I’ve ever tasted, and really hammers home the comment Anthony made a long time ago about shifting his style toward earlier consumption.

I can’t help but ask how investors, Spanos, may have directed the changes, and perhaps prompted his retirement.

With a garlic miso pasta, thought it was a bit thin on pop and pour but once it warmed a bit wow perfect for summer. What a great deal for $10 per.

Moving on to a Garagiste mystery wine - 2016 Acacia Pinot Noir, RRV. Apparently this retails for $50, but that’s really hard to believe. (By that, I mean it’s listed on the website for that much or higher, but I can’t imagine anybody selling it for that much.)
@klezman I picked up a couple of those mystery Acacia, totally agree, for the price paid it was fine but no way at winery price or even double Garagiste price.

Just opened a 2013 Twisted Oak Torcido Grenache. Yum. Just what we needed after a day of battle with the toddler.
@klezman Yeah, I’ve had two of those (I think the 2013 and 2014), and they were both great. I like more than other quality (and/or expensive) Grenaches that I’ve had. Got one more in that last mixed case and will really pay attention next time. if a discounted case of those every comes up . . .
This is the second bottle I have tried from them the last two nights. Great stuff and it would seem nothing they make is over 13% ABV.

I was reading a thread on wines people like that are under 13 abv and someone piqued my interest talking about these wines, so being board I jumped on a couple of cab francs and this Malbec. I think the honey nut lowered my cholesterol win win

Stood this up a few months ago and never got around to it until now, starting to open up after 40 minutes in the decanter. Dried strawberry, dried sour cherry and mixed nuts? Plenty of acid and a bit of tannin, great so far. Happy father’s day!

Had some ribs in the smoker so was thinking of a Zinfandel. 2016 Pedroncelli Bushnell Vineyard fit the bill.
I made a Tomato Basil Chicken skillet dish with fresh basil and tomatoes from the garden. A Pedroncelli Cab to complement it. Amazing.
