Last night at a local seafood place;
2013 Knot Wines Halyard Brut
2016 J. Dusi Pinot Grigio
with Spicy Asian Noodles and Panko Crusted Walleye in a white wine reduction w/mashers and roasted zucchini
@losthighwayz Really liked a previous vintage from WW so it was an easy buy and this vintage is just as good. I’m not a big PG drinker but this is one of my favorites, especially at Casemates pricing.
J Dusi does have a case special on their website for $144. Not quite the offer we had here but $12/bottle is still a good deal.
@losthighwayz@rc70
That’s unfortunate. I popped one Friday night. Fantastic wine- I bet he opened one on arrival and got greedy. It’s that good. But that’s not cool. The system is based on trust. I’m new to this system and in Dallas we’ve had a great time getting to know each other and share wine.
@baekdusan You a fellow Torontonian? I watched with horror as the Leafs played a fantastic 40 minutes of game 7. Too bad they forgot to play the last 20.
One of my coworkers is a Caps fan. He’s betting they mess it up still, too. But they’ve got a lot fewer than 51 years to kvetch about.
The first bottle from the BD case that finally arrived a couple of weeks ago. Hard to believe that cold weather kept it from being shipped from 1/27 to late April, but that’s all a memory, things are really steamy here in NYC. Perfect rose weather. Thanks to you fanboys whose comments made me want to buy it.
I could post a picture, but it would be of an empty bottle and an empty glass.
@hscottk
Holding up well. I don’t notice much change from previous bottles. They’re delicious now and I imagine will hold well for at least several years.
Beautiful day here, so on the deck, eating cheese, crostini, etc. with 2 Jakes of Diamonds Dry Rose Wine, followed by pasta and 2011 Villa A Sesta Il Palei.
@rc70 it wasn’t bad, just not interesting in the least. Did you buy the California designate or napa valley designate. I found the California designate at GO for $7.
@ScottW58 Yeah, with Japanese curry rice, the
2015 NxNW Riesling
just isn’t doing much, but I wanted to try a bottle.
Many will turn to gifts.
I did, however, just pick up some mags of
1989 Iron Horse Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon T Bar T Vineyard
from WineBid I hope are worthy.
@ScottW58 Considering that they go from $300 to $500,depending on vintage, it should be killin’. Of course, the MacDonald’s go for more than that. You have some amazing friends…
@chipgreen How are you liking that… I bought some St Julian from WW years ago, and stopped by the tasting rooms while visiting Michigan last year. I’ll reserve my opinion. But well it might be a good mowing the lawn wine.
Well. I just revisted my 6 pack thats now a 4 pack of Gruet Sauvage from the WW offering in Dec. Same as I was on New years eve…exceptionally disappointed . The taste is lacking…and not because of lack of sweetness as I love super dry sparklings. but because It’s not really sparkling… the carb rushes to the head and is gone in 10 seconds. VERY disappointed. 4 more bottles I have to figure out what to do with basically a flat wine or just dump it.
@chipgreen Doesn’t appear so… I’ll likely try the other 4 over the next month or so. I don’t know enough about Sparkling though to understand what could be affecting how fast the carbonation escapes. It’s there when It opens. but quickly disappears.
@chipgreen@MSUMike Basic same thing as any gas in solution: the CO2 gets out more quickly the warmer the wine is, and the more nucleation sites there are for the bubbles to start on. (Those are usually microscopic imperfections in the glass surface etc. Try different glasses and see if you get different results.)
@klezman@ScottW58
Need to get a freezer, after I find room for it.
The end of the build-it hurt here as well; however I did schedule mine for future delivery.
Wonder how that will work out.
Oh and BTW not what i’m drinking tonight but last weekend when I was doing a little shopping at a store called Epicurus Gourmet in North Hollywood this is what they were serving to make shopping the best experience I ever had A nice Swiss white and a 78 Duckhorn Cab life is good!
A crappy wine that I did not like when first purchased and now i’m pissed that I wasted space for 10+ years waiting for it to come around…down the drain!
A beautiful wine that I loved when I first purchased and still do!
@ScottW58 Next BD I need to order a lot more of the sardines. Already gone thru ten cans this year and gifted a couple. Love 'em with crostini. +1 likes 'em with mustard. The 50 pack is looking a little enticing.
@rjquillin Not bad, but wasn’t as balanced as I would like. Tannins present but overwhelmed by fruit. At $15 out the door, I don’t feel like I overpaid, but am in no rush to restock.
@ScottW58 Love it! I was still full 18 hrs. later. Have only been to two other Brazilian steakhouses but Texas de Brazil is easily my favorite of the three.
I was looking at their locations on the website. The Irvine restaurant is the only one in the state of CA.
I highly recommend it, no turkey burgers here!
My favorites were the flank steak, picanha, beef ribs and brazilian sausages but it was all good.
@chipgreen
Thanks! Going down their for my daughter’s graduation and will probably have dinner if it’s that good love a good Brazilian barbeque! Yup picanha is always my favorite thanks again!
Fresh oysters (Whole Foods has 10 for $10, in case you’re interested), followed by grilled barramundi, so obviously a 2016 Craggy Range SB Martinborough(wwet).
@CorTot
It actually was probably better that we did it on Saturday due to it being less crowded (although I will never admit that to my daughter) I always like Duke’s solid food and not priced to fancy, plus I love being at the beach
@ScottW58 Still holding up and no signs of decline. What a great wine!
Also had a 2008 Eagles Trace Lat 38 that was drinking very well. (Thank you TSO for offering those years ago.) Happy Mothers Day!
Took a chance on a 2014 Kirkland Toscana (80% Sangio, 15% CS and 5% Merlot) $14. As good as any in this price range. A re-buy. Went very well with margherita pizza.
2007 Arger-Martucci Cab Sauv Estate Atlas Peak
2013 Jana Winery Cathedral Napa Valley
with Costco prime NY strip steaks , garlic parmesan potato, sauteed mushroons.
Jana is good but young the Arger was better in my opinion fwiw - age ?, have some Jana sitting in a consolidated order hold, think I will add a couple / few more at that price believe I will be very glad down the road.
Drinking this while I cook some Flannery burgers and lick my wounds after another jmdavidson recommendation for a Full Pull wine that just cost me way more than I planned to spend today! I curse the day I gave jm my email address.
@ScottW58 Wait, let me take the gun from your head so I can respond to this. You just bought an amazing wine, which if you leave it rest for a few years, you will thank me for the push. Remember Corliss = Nicholas Cole.
@jmdavidson1
Wait?! you couldn’t tell from my post that I was thanking you?? Problem is when SWMBO sees the bill I will not be able to tell her this time…“honey don’t you remember when we were drinking this wine with JM you loved it so much that you told me to buy it right away?” Hey don’t judge it took the edge off last time I tried it with another couple!
And of course I will age two and drink one right away for science!
My last bottle of Two Jakes 2012 P. Sirah. Excellent-- even has a modicum of wood in the nose and on the palate. I hope Casemates has an offering of this soon.
@rjquillin
Wouldn’t appreciate good flavor or balance? Well then I will suggest on those days just have a big Mac and a Pepsi, it will save you a bunch of money and your liver!
@ScottW58 Not that desperate. Can’t even remember the last time I had either of those selections. Easily over 15, if not 20 years.
Don’t think they’d age all that well either.
@ScottW58 Finishing off that Virage
With Flannery sliders and Point Reyes Blue
Had to do something decent; have a 4-day work trip to wonderful Phoenix tomorrow, where the Wx is forecast to be in the temperate mid to high 30’s.
2007 Palmeri Cab Sauv Stagecoach Vineyard, at or near peak but several more years left easily. Had one a couple of years ago that was very good this was excellent.
2014 Twisted Oak Petite Sirah. Sadly, the least awesome Twisted Oak wine I’ve had in a long time. Possibly ever. I love the 2007 +/- 2 vintages of this wine.
@chipgreen Actually, yes it appears that was the case. Much nicer on day 2. Usually these will start strong, go to sleep after a bit of air, then come back. This one started in phase 2 apparently.
Last Friday at the Scott Harvey dinner in Wooster, OH;
2016 Tickle Me Pink Rosé w/granny smith and honeycrisp apples, bleu cheese, berries, shaved red onion, candied pecans and poppyseed dressing
2014 Mountain Selection Barbera w/five spice rubbed duck breast w/sweet & spicy pad thai rice noodles
2013 Jana Cathedral w/rosemary & sage rubbed lamb chops w/lobster risotto
2014 Vineyard 1869 Old Vine Zinfandel w/cracked pepper and ground mustard roasted pork loin with southern grits and collard greens
2015 InZinerator w/spice cake bread pudding w/hard sauce
After dinner w/Scott, Jana, my LW and a roomful of Wooters/Casematers, their SOs and a few stragglers;
2016 J. Dusi Pinot Grigio
1999 Wellington Cab Sauv Mohrhardt Ridge
2003 Wellington Cab Sauv Denier-Handel
1997 Penley Estate Shiraz/Cabernet
2016(?) Keplinger Vermillion
2011 Miner Family Merlot Stagecoach Vineyard
2012 Muscardini Cellars Rancho Salina
2015(?) Malivoire Gewürztraminer Icewine
@chipgreen Well done!
How was that icewine? You know that’s always the first question Also how is the 2013 Cathedral drinking? Do I need more from invino for $35?
@klezman The icewine was like nectar but I only managed a few drops from the end of the bottle. The Cathedral was surprisingly approachable already although probably better with food. It cut the fat from the lamb chops really well and was also surprisingly good with the lobster risotto.
I don’t see how you could regret getting another at $35. I just paid $60 for one as part of my 2nd quarter club shipment. ($52 + tax and shipping). Thankfully we also won a bottle at the dinner by correctly answering that when Scott asked Jana to marry him at Cathedral Rock in Sedona, AZ they were in the process of searching for a… vortex.
@hscottk Hmm, WOTN… tough call but I will go with the 1869 Zin at dinner and the '99 Wellington Cab after dinner. Incredible bottle bouquet on the Wellington!
2015 Tercero Cinsault/Cinsaut
Our baby is well trained…I cracked it open in the next room and poured a glass. He heard me and declared “wine! wine!” Future wineaux!
@chipgreen
Bright magenta! really beautiful wine, Turley’s winemakers side project. Sign up to the mailing list and see what you can get, they only make a few barrels of each wine so they don’t offer much. But it is very affordable and very much the opposite of Turley wines.
The food and the wines were all very good. This was a Mainstreet event, which we learned last night they do every now and then. Also sat next to someone who went on the Italy trip last year, so she was pushing us to go on this year’s Piedmont trip. Too pricey for us, however.
@jmdavidson1
Yeah, they seem to do a dinner every couple of months. They post them on their event list online (and Nancy posts them on Facebook). I’ve not yet made it to one. They’re always on weeknights.
2004 Nicolas Cole reserve cab just singing tonight with burgers! And I have to say that the Durand is the best toy I have ever bought! There is not a crappy cork it can’t handle.
KH, you do love those WS’s. Tonight, 2014 Grgich Hills Chardonnay NV. Check this off the list of those that have not converted us. (wwet). And, from Nakedwines, 2016 Akiyoshi. Confirmation(again) that this is not a viable web site.
@jmdavidson1
I just don’t understand with all your knowledge of the great wines of the world why you would through hard earned money at Nakedwines? No offence intended!
@ScottW58 I used one of those $100 coupons, paid $60 and got a case of their best and most expensive mixed reds. Out of that, three or four have been interesting/drinkable. So, it was a minimal outlay of cash. Not a total loss. For reasons unknown to me, +1 has liked them.
@rjquillin I liked that quite a bit.
Big California pinot for sure, a little bitterness in the finish but well worth the $10. I liked the petite sirah more.
@CorTot It’s actually wine from grapes.
“Gïk blends different varieties of red and white grapes with two organic pigments to turn it blue: anthocyanin, from the red grape skin, and indigotine, an organic compound commonly used as a reddish-blue food dye.”
Opened a '13 Wellington cab franc baron vineyard, not quite what I was hoping for but maybe day 2 will show a difference.
With a New York steak and baked potato.
@jmdavidson1 Composite cork was in good shape. Very little nose, no bottle bouquet. Not much fruit left but wasn’t spicy or oaky either. A little heat from the alc and some tannins that got grippier as it was opened longer. The wine was smooth and austere but somewhat underwhelming.
@chipgreen@jmdavidson1 Was this the 95~98 vertical. Will be interested, for science, what you report. Well, also for finding and consuming mine as well.
Last night had a 1998 Riesling from Germany acquired via Garagiste. He hits a solid qpr with these old German wine cellars. $21 delivered. Then we had a 2014 Roche Late Harvest Merlot. So much delicious blueberry.
Tonight, a slightly delayed anniversary dinner with molarchae. Flannery 60-day rib steaks and 1999 Corison Napa Valley. We might get to ice wine also…yum!
2014 Rinaldi Moscato d’Asti Bug Juice;
the girls just can’t get enough of this.
2014 Scott Harvey Zinfandel Mountain Selection
1999 Arbios Cabernet Sauvignon
likely something else for dessert as well
2016 Smith & Hook & Cline Cabernet Sauvignon-Mourvèdre. It was a table blend that my wife attempted after I’d opened a '16 S&H Cab and a '16 Cline Ancient Vines Mourvèdre. As is often the case, it bumped the blend up from the ***- that I’d give either of the components to *** on my scale of no stars to ****+. I don’t imagine that any Cal wineries blend Cab and Mourvèdre, but maybe they ought to. It worked in this case.
In the Berkshire mountains, something from the Loire valley. 2015 Olivier Cousin Anjou Pur Breton. It’s a Cab Franc, and a nice one at that.
People, it’s freaking cold here! When we left NYC yesterday afternoon, it was like 90, and humid. Now we’re wearing scarves and layering, and drinking red wine!
Busted out a can of Veleta sardines, made some grilled crostini and drank a (half) bottle of 2016 Vignobles Lacheteau Vouvray ($8 at Trader Joes). Highly recommend. Chilled, it has nice acidity, lemon, pear, grapefruit, apple and a touch of sweetness. Good versatility from something spicy to fresh oysters. A perfect summer sipper.
Last night: 2010 August Briggs Calistoga Petit Sirah & 2014 Lagier Meredith Mt Veeder Syrah
Tonight: 2012 Marco Bonfante Albarone (new Piemonte varietal)
2015 Feudi di San Gergorio Fiano de Avellino and 2013 Orin Swift Mercury Head CS. The Mercury Head is an absolute monster. Actually good value for premium CS these days.
2011 Expressions 38 Goldrock Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir. Leftover meats of various sorts. Yum. @WineDavid49 When will Expressions be making an appearance?
Last night at a local seafood place;
2013 Knot Wines Halyard Brut
2016 J. Dusi Pinot Grigio
with Spicy Asian Noodles and Panko Crusted Walleye in a white wine reduction w/mashers and roasted zucchini
@chipgreen what did you think about the j dusi? Was so close to pulling the trigger but got cold feet last minute
2013 Cornerstone Cellars Syrah Grigsby Vineyard
@rc70 yeah, I should have 4 bottles of this but a “casemate” never followed through on our agreement and kept all.
@losthighwayz @rc70
That’s unfortunate. I popped one Friday night. Fantastic wine- I bet he opened one on arrival and got greedy. It’s that good. But that’s not cool. The system is based on trust. I’m new to this system and in Dallas we’ve had a great time getting to know each other and share wine.
Who’d have guessed…2013 Kendric Pinot Noir
Why oh Why, do Toronto teams continue to disappoint this year?! First the leafs, now the raptors.
End rant.
2013 Grgich Hills Chardonnay
@baekdusan You a fellow Torontonian? I watched with horror as the Leafs played a fantastic 40 minutes of game 7. Too bad they forgot to play the last 20.
One of my coworkers is a Caps fan. He’s betting they mess it up still, too. But they’ve got a lot fewer than 51 years to kvetch about.
2008 Roessler Pinot Noir Hein Family Vineyard
So much Roessler to sample…
This was a good one.
Grilled salmon and assorted stir fry veggies with rice.
2007 Core Wines Tempranillo C³
95 degrees right now. Just put a 2016 Brander La Presa SB in the fridge…not sure what is next
@losthighwayz How about some oysters on the half shell?
@losthighwayz Very timely, as yesterday was “Sauvignon Blanc Day” according to an email I received from St. Supery.
2015 Princess & Peasant Carignan, red licorice on the nose, tart, fresh red berries. Man this is nice.
@pjmartin Yeah, those were really tasty bottles.
Working on a joel gott zin I found in the bargain bin. Not bad, not great but meh.
2016 Campesino Grenache Isa
The first bottle from the BD case that finally arrived a couple of weeks ago. Hard to believe that cold weather kept it from being shipped from 1/27 to late April, but that’s all a memory, things are really steamy here in NYC. Perfect rose weather. Thanks to you fanboys whose comments made me want to buy it.
I could post a picture, but it would be of an empty bottle and an empty glass.
WineSmith 2007 Pinot Noir, RRV
Williams Selyem 2016 Chenin Blanc, Limestone Ridge, Vista Verde
@karenhynes How is the WS Pinot holding up? Drink now?
@hscottk
Holding up well. I don’t notice much change from previous bottles. They’re delicious now and I imagine will hold well for at least several years.
@karenhynes Great to hear!
Margaritas starting with work happy hour.
May the fourth be with you!
Beautiful day here, so on the deck, eating cheese, crostini, etc. with 2 Jakes of Diamonds Dry Rose Wine, followed by pasta and 2011 Villa A Sesta Il Palei.
2014 WineSmith Pinot Gris, Arroyo Seco Meador Estate Vineyard
Luna vineyards 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
Really pretty non-descript. Wouldn’t rebuy.
@CorTot
That’s not good to hear, I have several bottles of that that I have yet to try.
@rc70 it wasn’t bad, just not interesting in the least. Did you buy the California designate or napa valley designate. I found the California designate at GO for $7.
@CorTot @rc70 I too have seen Luna at GO, but so far haven’t brought one home. Thanks for saving me on this one.
2007 Col Solare
2013 Vino Noceto Sangiovese
With Sfoglini Pasta (gourmet woot) in a roma/sundried tomato sauce with hot Italian sausage’
Did a Napa cab and slab thing last night at a local steakhouse with a few other people, fun stuff!
@ScottW58 You have been killin’ it lately!
@ScottW58 I need new friends, as in those that drink high end wines (“cause it’s better than drinkin’ alone.”) Nice collection. WOTN?
@ScottW58 That’s your counter.
Did you bring home all the empties just to taunt us, or did they still have some dribbles?
@jmdavidson1
The Bryant Bettina just killed it, but watch out for MacDonald in the future.
@rjquillin
Not my counter that’s the restaurant. Drink some of your fine wines you might have fun, what do you have to lose
@rjquillin
Well I hope you actually drink them
2013 St. Julian Winery Traminette Reserve
paired with… mowing the lawn
@chipgreen How are you liking that… I bought some St Julian from WW years ago, and stopped by the tasting rooms while visiting Michigan last year. I’ll reserve my opinion. But well it might be a good mowing the lawn wine.
@MSUMike It’s a little sweet but it’s pretty good straight out of the fridge, especially as a liquid snack to help break up the 2 acre mowing job!
@MSUMike Mimosas
@klezman Yea i tried that today. that was my next idea. lacking without the sparkling bubbly.
@MSUMike Any issues with the corks?
@chipgreen Doesn’t appear so… I’ll likely try the other 4 over the next month or so. I don’t know enough about Sparkling though to understand what could be affecting how fast the carbonation escapes. It’s there when It opens. but quickly disappears.
@chipgreen @MSUMike Basic same thing as any gas in solution: the CO2 gets out more quickly the warmer the wine is, and the more nucleation sites there are for the bubbles to start on. (Those are usually microscopic imperfections in the glass surface etc. Try different glasses and see if you get different results.)
2016 Joel Gott Grenache Rose - half price clearance at my local Safeway
2002 Couly Dutheil Chinon Clos de l’Echo
2004 Vice Versa CS. This might qualify for a Scott wine (haha). Paired with grilled lamb chops, baby spuds and broccoli.
@jmdavidson1
Hey! was that a shot? If you like I can only post the $10 bottles i’m drinking
btw nice bottle, how is it drinking?
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 speaking of the cheap bottles. Klez has your armida antidote bottles that I picked up awhile ago.
@CorTot
Thanks man!
@ScottW58 Great wine. Benchmark bin sale item. Normally $130, got it for $59 due to a damaged plastic capsule. Worth every penny (dollar).
Tonight with Flannery burgers…
@ScottW58 We need to clear out some space for newer Flannery burgers. Good reminder!
2013 Navarro Chardonnay, Mendocino. Delicious oaked Chard.
@ScottW58 I love flan! Not sure about burger form though…
@klezman @ScottW58
Need to get a freezer, after I find room for it.
The end of the build-it hurt here as well; however I did schedule mine for future delivery.
Wonder how that will work out.
2013 Acumen Cab Sauv Mountainside
2014 Scott Harvey Zin Mtn Selection
Oh and BTW not what i’m drinking tonight but last weekend when I was doing a little shopping at a store called Epicurus Gourmet in North Hollywood this is what they were serving to make shopping the best experience I ever had A nice Swiss white and a 78 Duckhorn Cab life is good!
@ScottW58 SERVING? You mean they just pour you a glass when you walk in? Guess we need to try this store.
@klezman
Yes on the weekends at least, I have never been there during the week
2009 Boudreaux Merlot
2009 Twisted Oak Ol’ Chumbucket
A crappy wine that I did not like when first purchased and now i’m pissed that I wasted space for 10+ years waiting for it to come around…down the drain!
A beautiful wine that I loved when I first purchased and still do!
@ScottW58 the '05 from lb?
I’ve got some '98 and '10 as well.
Hope they fare better.
2010 Scott Harvey Zin Old Vine Reserve (white label), excellent.
2008 Tolaini Picconero Tenuta Montebello Toscana (Merlot 65%, CS 30%, PV 5%) with grilled salmon, risotto and black truffle butter and grilled zucchini/tomatoes.

Drinking the good stuff I see
And no, it is not a new wine.woot beer. (Sorry for the incorrect positioning.)
2015 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette with Veleta sardines and a bunch of fresh bread and cheese. Everything is dynamite!
@ScottW58 Next BD I need to order a lot more of the sardines. Already gone thru ten cans this year and gifted a couple. Love 'em with crostini. +1 likes 'em with mustard. The 50 pack is looking a little enticing.
@jmdavidson1
Agree! I did that with the tuna this year.
https://i.imgur.com/hGijsoX
@CorTot
you’re killing me with this! Unless this is what you wanted me to see?
Zoinks! You’ve taken a wrong turn.
Let’s split up, gang. If you’re looking for an image, it’s probably been deleted or may not have existed at all.
If you are looking for groovy images, visit our gallery!

To be honest I can’t do it from my phone either!

@hscottk I know her foodstuffs are good, how about her grapes?
@rjquillin Not bad, but wasn’t as balanced as I would like. Tannins present but overwhelmed by fruit. At $15 out the door, I don’t feel like I overpaid, but am in no rush to restock.
Taking a magnum of 2013 Viña Aquitania Cabernet Sauvignon Lazuli to Texas de Brazil.
@chipgreen
How was the restaurant? We have one of those out here.
@ScottW58 Love it! I was still full 18 hrs. later. Have only been to two other Brazilian steakhouses but Texas de Brazil is easily my favorite of the three.
I was looking at their locations on the website. The Irvine restaurant is the only one in the state of CA.

2013 Woot Cellars Revelry
A bit more obvious with the PV on opening. This is a good thing.
Fresh oysters (Whole Foods has 10 for $10, in case you’re interested), followed by grilled barramundi, so obviously a 2016 Craggy Range SB Martinborough(wwet).
2015 Jemrose Viognier. I’m not well versed in Viognier, but this seemed way too ripe and lacked acidity.
At Duke’s for mothers day because my daughter has no clue as to when Mothers day is!
@ScottW58 is she married?
We typically celebrate a mother on a Saturday and the other on Sunday.
I like dukes, how was it?
@CorTot
It actually was probably better that we did it on Saturday due to it being less crowded (although I will never admit that to my daughter) I always like Duke’s solid food and not priced to fancy, plus I love being at the beach
Anytime you want to meet out there let me know.
@ScottW58 There’s an idea!
@CorTot @ScottW58 That’d be fun. Only been there one, for a friend’s wedding.
@CorTot @klezman
Yes! They even upped their wine list to be more wine friendly…they have some nice stuff not that we would need it
2015 Princess & Peasant Pinot noir. Yum.
@hscottk Those were good. I still have another, I think. This was another casualty in my downscaling for BD this year. Maybe next year…
2007 Hawley Merlot with Costco Prime NY strips

@jmdavidson1 how pedestrian of you.
But given my GO purchases, I really can’t say much.
I’ll have to check out our local outlet.
@rjquillin Sorry. I just call’em as I see’s 'em.
@jmdavidson1 No need, a good daily bottle is a great bottle.

with Costco prime NY strip steaks , garlic parmesan potato, sauteed mushroons.
@rc70 Sounds like the Mom’s Day I prepared. +1. How is the Jana drinking? Tempted to get some on another website.
Jana is good but young the Arger was better in my opinion fwiw - age ?, have some Jana sitting in a consolidated order hold, think I will add a couple / few more at that price believe I will be very glad down the road.
@rc70 The Jana’s usually do need “some” age on them.
@rc70 That Cathedral is way young yet…
Give it another five or so.
2013 Conte di Zanone Barolo
2015 Prize Cabernet Sauvignon Surprize
A couple of dailies, at best.
Last night, campesino '16 isa
Tonight Wellington '13 chard
Really nice weather the last couple of evenings.
2013 Carlisle CMP
With brisket and mashed potatoes cause Champagne goes with everything!
@ScottW58 this is true!
2012 Viña Aquitania Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon
2012 Black Cat Cab Franc
Drinking this while I cook some Flannery burgers and lick my wounds after another jmdavidson recommendation for a Full Pull wine that just cost me way more than I planned to spend today! I curse the day I gave jm my email address.
@ScottW58 Wait, let me take the gun from your head so I can respond to this. You just bought an amazing wine, which if you leave it rest for a few years, you will thank me for the push. Remember Corliss = Nicholas Cole.
@jmdavidson1
Wait?! you couldn’t tell from my post that I was thanking you?? Problem is when SWMBO sees the bill I will not be able to tell her this time…“honey don’t you remember when we were drinking this wine with JM you loved it so much that you told me to buy it right away?” Hey don’t judge it took the edge off last time I tried it with another couple!
And of course I will age two and drink one right away for science!
@ScottW58 I fight the same fight every time I buy wine. They just don’t get it. You have to pay for good wine, no one gifts it to you.
@jmdavidson1
Indeed! we fight the same battles
@jmdavidson1 @ScottW58 You could “gift” wine to each other. You both understand the battlefield so why not share the same foxhole?
2013 Pillow Rd. Vineyard Pinot Noir
2010 Patton Valley Vineyard Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
Not too sure about this one yet. PnP was candied wood.
Robert Stevens 2014 Pinot noir sta Rita hills with an instapot chicken
@CorTot The rest of this with chicken tacos. Solid pinot from GO at $10. Would buy again.
2012 Bell Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley
2009 Pedroncelli Zin Bushnell Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
My last bottle of Two Jakes 2012 P. Sirah. Excellent-- even has a modicum of wood in the nose and on the palate. I hope Casemates has an offering of this soon.
@DickL noted.
Sombody canceled coming over tonight for dinner and drinking but I decided screw them i’m still cooking sausage ragu and drinking this for science
@ScottW58 Curse that sick toddler and sick wife of mine! (I’m still coughing too…so much fun.) We’ll just have to make up for it next week.
2007 Virage Vineyards Red Bordeaux Blend
even I drink a decent bottle occasionally
@rjquillin
I consider that a very nice wine, it’s the occasionally thing that bewilders me?! Your liver deserves better.
@ScottW58 All too frequently I just feel it would be a waste to open that better bottle, as I just wouldn’t appreciate it at the time.
@rjquillin
@ScottW58 Finishing off that Virage
With Flannery sliders and Point Reyes Blue
Had to do something decent; have a 4-day work trip to wonderful Phoenix tomorrow, where the Wx is forecast to be in the temperate mid to high 30’s.
@rjquillin
A perfect opportunity for the 6 bottle wine check full of great wines, not $4.99 bottles from the grocery outlet!
@ScottW58 Don’t I wish.
These will be late nites, likely not ending till after 22:00, sometimes extending into the next day.
Then ZZZZzzzzz time.
2007 Palmeri Cab Sauv Stagecoach Vineyard, at or near peak but several more years left easily. Had one a couple of years ago that was very good this was excellent.
2003 Sempre Vive CS Eugenia. This is nothing short of amazing. TSO purchase, $25, Feb 2014.
2010 Astrale e Terre Arcturus Bdx blend. Doing quite nicely. Going to cook up some elk burgers once the kiddo gets in to bed.
2002 Sempre Vive CS Eugenia. A notch below the '03. Each were part of a vertical from TSO.
2015 Scott Harvey Zinfandel Vineyard 1869, with a spicy lasagna.
With a heirloom tomato and basil salad, needed something light tonight, I am now officially a big fan of this producer.
2014 Twisted Oak Petite Sirah. Sadly, the least awesome Twisted Oak wine I’ve had in a long time. Possibly ever. I love the 2007 +/- 2 vintages of this wine.
@klezman Too early, perhaps?
@chipgreen Actually, yes it appears that was the case. Much nicer on day 2. Usually these will start strong, go to sleep after a bit of air, then come back. This one started in phase 2 apparently.
Last Friday at the Scott Harvey dinner in Wooster, OH;
2016 Tickle Me Pink Rosé w/granny smith and honeycrisp apples, bleu cheese, berries, shaved red onion, candied pecans and poppyseed dressing
2014 Mountain Selection Barbera w/five spice rubbed duck breast w/sweet & spicy pad thai rice noodles
2013 Jana Cathedral w/rosemary & sage rubbed lamb chops w/lobster risotto

2015 InZinerator w/spice cake bread pudding w/hard sauce

2016 J. Dusi Pinot Grigio
1999 Wellington Cab Sauv Mohrhardt Ridge
2003 Wellington Cab Sauv Denier-Handel
1997 Penley Estate Shiraz/Cabernet
2016(?) Keplinger Vermillion
2011 Miner Family Merlot Stagecoach Vineyard
2012 Muscardini Cellars Rancho Salina
2015(?) Malivoire Gewürztraminer Icewine
@chipgreen Well done!
How was that icewine? You know that’s always the first question Also how is the 2013 Cathedral drinking? Do I need more from invino for $35?
@chipgreen WOTN?
@chipgreen Not regret per se, but I have three already and I am out of space (and then some).
2013 Twisted Oak Torcido Garnacha
2010 Parallel Cab Sauv Fortune Teller
2015 Tercero Cinsault/Cinsaut
Our baby is well trained…I cracked it open in the next room and poured a glass. He heard me and declared “wine! wine!” Future wineaux!
No clue what i’m eating yet but this is good, real good!
@ScottW58 Trousseau is the grape? Never tried, don’t think I’ve even heard of it. I like the color, looks magenta. How did you find this one?
@ScottW58 bd offer, no?
@rjquillin
No mailing list
@chipgreen
Bright magenta! really beautiful wine, Turley’s winemakers side project. Sign up to the mailing list and see what you can get, they only make a few barrels of each wine so they don’t offer much. But it is very affordable and very much the opposite of Turley wines.
https://www.sandlandsvineyards.com/about
@ScottW58 Done, thanks!
2016 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel. Italian for QPR.
@radiolysis day three has the wine showing great again.
Wellington '11 estate zin. Doing mighty fine!
Wine pairing dinner at a local restaurant featuring Chappellet:
2017 Chenin blanc
2017 Chardonnay
2014 Loeb Sonoma Pinot Noir “Dutton Ranch”
2016 Mountain Cuvee
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature Series
@jmdavidson1
Glad you were able to go! How was it?
The food and the wines were all very good. This was a Mainstreet event, which we learned last night they do every now and then. Also sat next to someone who went on the Italy trip last year, so she was pushing us to go on this year’s Piedmont trip. Too pricey for us, however.
@jmdavidson1
Yeah, they seem to do a dinner every couple of months. They post them on their event list online (and Nancy posts them on Facebook). I’ve not yet made it to one. They’re always on weeknights.
2009 Bennett Lane Reserve Cab Sauv
currently up on last bottle @39 / fs4 , I’m reupping.
@rc70 Just saw your post. I picked up some in 04/2017. Good to know it is a re-buy, bad to know it was up and is over.
2004 Nicolas Cole reserve cab just singing tonight with burgers! And I have to say that the Durand is the best toy I have ever bought! There is not a crappy cork it can’t handle.
2017 Williams Selyem Vin Gris of Pinot Noir.
Summer in a bottle!
KH, you do love those WS’s. Tonight, 2014 Grgich Hills Chardonnay NV. Check this off the list of those that have not converted us. (wwet). And, from Nakedwines, 2016 Akiyoshi. Confirmation(again) that this is not a viable web site.
@jmdavidson1
I do love my Selyems! I’m regretting only ordering three.
@jmdavidson1
2014 Lewis Cellars Alec’s Blend - Syrah/CS. Massive fruit bomb. In a good way!
I finished off the 04 Nicholas Cole cab with my fish tonight
2014 Robert Stevens Pinot Noir Limited Production
@rjquillin I liked that quite a bit.
Big California pinot for sure, a little bitterness in the finish but well worth the $10. I liked the petite sirah more.
I tried this blue wine tonight for fun. It’s very pretty. Very fruity, on the sweet side.
@heartny yum! Blueberry slushee in a bottle.
@CorTot I think those need another year or so. I’ll consider revisiting these starting Thanksgiving-ish.
2013 Heure d’ete Cotes de Provence Rosé
2010 Ty Caton Ty’s Red Caton Vineyard
1996 Foppiano Petite Sirah
2011 Dry Creek Vineyard The Mariner
@chipgreen I still have that whole vertical of the Foppiano PS that we got on the RPM tour. How was this one?
@jmdavidson1 Composite cork was in good shape. Very little nose, no bottle bouquet. Not much fruit left but wasn’t spicy or oaky either. A little heat from the alc and some tannins that got grippier as it was opened longer. The wine was smooth and austere but somewhat underwhelming.
@chipgreen Meeting up with (wine-drinking) friends this weekend, so I think I’ll pop all of the corks for the sake of science.
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1 Was this the 95~98 vertical. Will be interested, for science, what you report. Well, also for finding and consuming mine as well.
@chipgreen @rjquillin I only have the 96-97-98 vintages. Must have opened the 95, who knows when.
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1 I think the '95 may have been an optional add-in.
@jmdavidson1 @rjquillin I only had the '96 - '98.
2014 Rinaldi Moscato d’Asti Bug Juice;
the girls just can’t get enough of this.
2014 Scott Harvey Zinfandel Mountain Selection
1999 Arbios Cabernet Sauvignon
likely something else for dessert as well
@rjquillin
Flannery sous vide hanger steak w/ Point Reyes Blue
Shrimp stuffed Portobello mushrooms
Black truffel baked spuds
Pancetta green beans
@rjquillin
Looks/sounds delicious! Cheers!
Drinking a Domaine du Grand Montmirail Gigondas Cuvée Vieilles Vignes while prepping bagels for tomorrow morning.
@ScottW58 Now, homemade bagels; impressive.
@ScottW58 You’re making bagels?! Boiling in water with lye and molasses? Otherwise you might just end up with toroidal bread!
@klezman
Pfft these are spectacular!
ps://www.chefsteps.com/activities/amazing-chewy-bagels-from-scratch
@klezman @ScottW58
I’d be happy to “rat” those for you.
@karenhynes @klezman
Well no wine but the bagels were fantastic if I don’t say so myself
@karenhynes @klezman @ScottW58 Those bagels are everything!
They look great. Maybe someday I’ll be inspired to try that. Really good NYC bagels are increasingly hard to find.
2006 Delectus Cuvee Julia with NY strips and …

@rc70 baller!
2010 Topel Pinot noir reserve Monterey

2013 Roco Pinot Noir Marsh Estate Vineyard Yamhill-Carlton
w/store brand frozen pepperoni pizza - don’t judge!
Bennett Lane 2009 CS NV, drinking well above the $39. from LatBottleWines.
Three cheers for holiday weekends!
@InFrom
Well that sounds and looks lovely, nice pic!
@InFrom They should call that one Nauti Bacchus
Busted out a can of Veleta sardines, made some grilled crostini and drank a (half) bottle of 2016 Vignobles Lacheteau Vouvray ($8 at Trader Joes). Highly recommend. Chilled, it has nice acidity, lemon, pear, grapefruit, apple and a touch of sweetness. Good versatility from something spicy to fresh oysters. A perfect summer sipper.
@jmdavidson1
I love a good Vouvray. I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks!
@jmdavidson1 2009 Eagles Trace Estate PN Valhalla Vyd. Even +1 liked this. (wwet)
@jmdavidson1
Excellent! I’ve stuck with water this weekend. Too hot, too soon for me.
@jmdavidson1
We Will Enjoy Tonight?
Wine Was Especially Tannic?
Woolly Wombats Eat Turnips?
What Would Elvis Think?
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1
I’ve been wondering about that one for a while. I came up with:
Who Would Ever Think?
@chipgreen @jmdavidson1
What would Elvis think. Just has to be it…it must.
Sashimi and saké, some g Joy.
2015 Princess & Peasant Pinot Noir

Took a couple bottles to a work dinner:
2014 Iron Horse Unoaked Chardonnay
2011 Pavi Dolcetto
The idea of a Napa Dolcetto worked well with my CEO.
2010 Cascina Val del Prete Barbera d’Alba Serra de Gatti
Finishing a nursed bottle of Vinitwo del Finito. That is a fantastic wine and held up very well in the fridge over the last few days.
@radiolysis Good to now since I was planning on opening a bottle this weekend with friends.
2015 Feudi di San Gergorio Fiano de Avellino and 2013 Orin Swift Mercury Head CS. The Mercury Head is an absolute monster. Actually good value for premium CS these days.
This tonight with Zankou chicken, nicely balanced acid and tannin’s but simple and one note (cherry), that note was pretty delicious tho.
2011 Expressions 38 Goldrock Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir. Leftover meats of various sorts. Yum.
@WineDavid49 When will Expressions be making an appearance?
