@rjquillin sure opted for the regular rib steaks. Definitely I get a range of aged character from them. These were great, but my 20 oz was more interesting than her 16 oz rib.
We’ll try the picanha next time I guess.
New gig is same stuff, different company, more money.
@hscottk I had a 2010 this weekend that was a little one-dimensional, nothing like the previous bottle of the same. I have two 2010’s left that I will hold on to for a while as they have been great. My 2011;s have never dissapointed
@pjmartin Generally I’ve been a bigger fan of the 2010 vineyard designate Welly cabs over the 11s, especially the HD. I haven’t seen much bottle variation which is a good thing.
@jmdavidson1@rjquillin
I still have a few Ardentes squirreled away in one of our wine coolers. Need to find them and figure out what vintages they are. One of these days we may get organized and put it all into CellarTracker… or not…

@ScottW58 Awesome
You should have seen the flames when I grilled it.
Singed my arm hairs.
Only got three; fail.
That York Creek was pretty damn tasty too.
@ScottW58 Left whole, salt only. HOT grill fat side down, big flames, filp, one minute. Cut between #1 and #3 vein into two pieces and both ends made four. Vac seal 4 pieces separately. 2.5 hours @ 53C. Pat dry, salt again and grill. Next time I’ll cook a bit lower, ~51 or 52, and shorten up the grill times. The char from the flames really adds to it. Easily 2+ feet on the grill. Temp on the grill hood ~375C.
Great texture and flavour.
2008 Roessler Pinot Noir Griffins Lair with homemade Cioppino. Both were excellent. Last bottle of that vineyard Pinot. Still have two other Roessler vineyards PNs. Those were a steal from the old site.
@pseudogourmet98 Can’t speak to the PN, since I don’t drink much of it, but +1 to the cioppino. Altho, seems to me I had a bottle of the 2008 at one time when it came with two other PN’s.
A bunch of Scotch. I don’t like Scotch. My husband dragged me to a Scotch class at TW. As I am of Scottish descent, he thinks it’s important that I learn to like Scotch. Of 8 different single malts, I only found one that I consider drinkable, and I was prepared to dislike it more than some of the others. It was very smoky.

Nathan from St. Amant had a '17 Lodi Zin Marian’s Vineyard that was part of the Lodi Native Six project, as well as a Trousseau and a PS. Also a 7 variety port blend Bootleg. Need to get these on Casemates.
Rachel from Oceano Wines had both a nice SLO chard and PN.
Anne Amie was facing the sun and had issues keeping bottles chilled, still the '13 Estate Marilyn Brut, 12 Oaks Pinot Blanc showed well.
Mitch from Shannon Ridge was representing a number of houses and needs a call from @winedavid49.
From Lake County Sol Rouge had a '15 Mourverde and Brassfield a '16 blend called Eruption.
Stopped by BWG and had a really tasty off dry 2017 Peter Lauer Unterstenbersch Riesling Faß 12 that’s going to help fill out a case along with a 2013 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses that will be in the same case.
Next door Darms Lane had an Oak Knoll chard Bon Passe PV that were both worthy.
Lastly, Wines of Israel had three of interest; '17 Icon Jezreel Valley 50/50 Syrah/Carignan blend, '14 Shifon Vineyard Galilee Tannat and a '16 Alexander Cab Franc.
@rjquillin@rpm I’ve seen the @rpm line quoted often, but your modification of it amused me. I’ve likely tasted over in the thousands wines in tastings (some of the ones around here have 100+ wines open) over the years, but it’s the remembering part that I also find so elusive! Of course, there are some singular ones that are unforgettable.
Second, I was really impressed by both of those Anne Amie when I was at their tasting room a few months back. Tariff on the bubbly was a little high, but I’m pretty sure I got the Pinot Blanc.
Last night was a 2016 Pedroncelli Bushnell Vineyard Zinfandel. Very tasty. We’ll see how it is on the second day… Oh wait – there won’t be a second day for this bottle.

Finally got around to the celebratory dinner for our relocation to Missouri. 2014 Chateau Buena Vista Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (tried at a tasting two years ago and could not resist buying) with grilled ribeye. Absolutely delightful!

I’m lazy this morning.
@rjquillin ran by my GO and they had a slightly different selection of York Creek. 2003 estate Cab Sauv, 2001 and 2002 Port, a magnum of 1996 Meritage. Just walked away with a four pack of mixed stuff. I was eyeing that magnum for a holiday dinner, but couldn’t pull the trigger.
@CorTot@radiolysis Humm…
I didn’t get a '97, they had the '96 down here.
If we’re talking Meritage that is.
Looking again, it looks like both vintages were available here.
Now I gotta look again to see what I actually did get.
2005 Arcadian Purisima Mountain Syrah
A couple popped up on K&L so we decided to open this one and see if we needed to reload. We did - and at less than what we paid on Berserker Day, no less.
@klezman
Good buy! I love Arcadian wines in fact it’s 1 of the 2 clubs i’m still in. Last club shipment had 2 of the 2001 Gary’s vineyard syrah. Gotta love a club that sends aged wines
Laura Michael Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013 - delicious but now have only 1 bottle left from the case of 2011/12/13 vertical. Hope it is back on here soon!.
@klezman
How is that drinking? I have several that I keep saving. Don’t want to save them too long but with this wine I have no idea what “too long” might be.
@pseudogourmet98 The 2005 always seemed to have a shorter life to it than the 2004. Initial sips (and a soaked and crumbly cork) suggest drink sooner rather than later. I’m sure if you kept one until its 15th birthday it’d be solid.
Long Point Winery 2014 Zinfandel…Damn!!!
If you ever get out to the Finger Lakes stop at Long Point on the East side of Cayuga Lake. Long Point gets their grapes/juice (I don’t know which) from CA, and brews their regular Zin (Not the Reserve) for 20 months in American and Hungarian oak. Gary, the winemaker, is the real deal. WOW!
@ScottW58 Yeah, We’ll be missing the Chicago pizza (Giordano’s is our “goto”) when we make the move to Missouri next week, but I’ve cut way back on it anyway since I went the keto route.
@ScottW58@TechnoViking Yes, Giordano’s has expanded outside of the Chicago area. https://giordanos.com/all-locations/ I don’t think I’ve had it elsewhere, but some chains that I have tried in other places did not have quite the same quality as their Chicago region locations. Hopefully Giordano’s takes steps to maintain their reputation.
1998 Turley Grist Vineyard Zinfandel
Holy alcohol…16.2%! But it doesn’t really show except for a touch of bitterness. Surprisingly balanced acidity - Turley knows how to make them.
@ScottW58 Held on to it too long. Drinks like a nicely aged wine, but certainly past its prime. Hoping the 04’s and 06’s I have of the Reserve are still in their prime.
Yesterday, RandyZin with “cheater” vegetarian pizza. Cheater because we love the veggies on the Mediterranean veggie pizza (spinach, tomatoes, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives) but we add Italian sausage when we order it. Cuz that’s how we roll!
@pseudogourmet98
Today 2011 Chateau Bianca Willamette Valley PN with pork chops in an apple mustard sauce. PN was either over the hill or bad to start with. Astringent.
I have a particular bottle I was thinking of opening to celebrate our move to Missouri, but by the time my wife and I were (mostly) done unloading the U-Haul truck there wasn’t any time to consider a dinner worthy of that bottle, so instead I celebrated with a 2016 Pedroncelli Cabernet.
@karenhynes I thought it was good, and ready to drink. Maybe my bottle was a little oxidized, maybe there some bottle variation, but the one I had was very good on pop 'n pour. For $11, very pleasing. If my other 2 bottles are as good, I’ll be ready to back up the truck if it comes around again.
Just opened a 1995 Dry Creek Vintner’s Selection Cabernet bought on one of the RPM tours (the last of 7). Perhaps some SoCalers may remember the story of cruelty that went with those bottles…
@rjquillin For me it followed the greater part of a bottle of 2009 OGP while I was doing the roast beef thing. So I will rely on Irmgard’s assessment: Initially had tannin’s with berry notes, was good, but got better after the bottle had sat uncorked for a few hours.
@rjquillin So we were at Dry Creek and they put on a blending session for us. Then we went upstairs to the tasting room to taste and buy. As I recall they were were having a long-running promotion celebrating the history of the winery and making available a series of library wines over time. During our visit, the library wine happened to be the 1995 Cabernet, and we were told it was a very limited release and we’d likely be limited to one bottle each.
One of the Wooters rushed upstairs, bought a bottle of the 1995 Cabernet and then kept insisting that if it became possible to buy a second bottle then he should be the first to be permitted to do so - informing everyone else as they entered the tasting room. After a while, this became irritating so I decided on some one-upmanship. I went over to one of the cellar workers: “Hi! See this? Could you bring up another case of it, please?” “Sure.” And so I bought another 6 bottles.
Meanwhile the Wooter was becoming more and more agitated about getting a second bottle. I’m afraid my attempts at cruelty are always marred by a streak of kindness, and I started feeling sorry for him, so I said “Hey *****. Your girlfriend - she wants a bottle of the 1995 Cab, too, doesn’t she?” “No, no she doesn’t! I want a second bottle! And there may not be any!!” “No, really, I’m sure your girlfriend wants you to buy a bottle of the 1995 Cab for her.” “Oh, yes! Hey I want to buy another bottle of the 1995 Cabernet… for my girlfriend!”
And then after getting that second bottle, he was just humming with happiness, so I didn’t have the heart to crow about buying seven bottles. Cruelty marred by a streak of kindness…
It’s been a while since I had an Aussie and this is nice. Took a while to open up but it’s bright spicy and not overdone! Light mouthfeel that packs some fruit and spice. I need to explore Australian wines again. Any suggestions?
2007 Rosenblum Petite Sirah, Heritage Clones.
Glad I waited for this one, and I still have more!
If I recall correctly, this was inexpensive. Oddly,
you can still buy this for $18, and it might be worth
getting a couple, if you drank yours up.

@CorTot @rjquillin Wow, that’s a no-brainer. I’m in.
@radiolysis Mira Mesa seems to still have good stock on the '97 and a few other bottles; meritage, merlot and some '03 CS
@radiolysis Point Loma?
@rjquillin yep.
@radiolysis @rjquillin didn’t love the ‘97, drinkable but definitely past peak. Took about an hour to open up and balance out a bit.
@CorTot @radiolysis Humm…
I didn’t get a '97, they had the '96 down here.
If we’re talking Meritage that is.
Looking again, it looks like both vintages were available here.
Now I gotta look again to see what I actually did get.

2014 Randy’s Zin + goulash = yum tonight.
Curious, anyone who ordered during the last bottle marathon in August actually receive their wine yet? Mine just says hold.
@CorTot I got mine weeks ago.
@CorTot According to CT, I got it on 9/18.
@CorTot Yep. One bottle. Already drank.
@CorTot Received early October
@rc70 thanks!
I guess I need to request that they ship it this time around.
@CorTot Yeah, that helps.
An old Woot bottle, well not this bottle but that’s where I discovered them (hint hint). Really nice bottle with a pork belly banh mi.

Nice! And I will never call you the (anti flavor wine elite)
2005 Arcadian Purisima Mountain Syrah
A couple popped up on K&L so we decided to open this one and see if we needed to reload. We did - and at less than what we paid on Berserker Day, no less.
@klezman
Good buy! I love Arcadian wines in fact it’s 1 of the 2 clubs i’m still in. Last club shipment had 2 of the 2001 Gary’s vineyard syrah. Gotta love a club that sends aged wines
@ScottW58 $40+tax. How are the club prices?
@klezman
For the 01 $70 plus tax and shipping.
2013 Outpost Zin Howell Mtn., 2012 Black Cat Zin Howell Mtn. with langostino etouffee.
@jmdavidson1
How is that Outpost jm?
@ScottW58 A friend brought this to dinner. Delicious. If all zin’s drank like this one, I’d drink zin (almost) every day.
@jmdavidson1
Nice! that is pretty my one experience with Outpost zin.
Laura Michael Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013 - delicious but now have only 1 bottle left from the case of 2011/12/13 vertical. Hope it is back on here soon!.
2005 Winesmith Faux Chablis with homemade sushi
@klezman
Making some French onion soup tonight. Man I love dry Riesling and this sucker is bone dry!
@ScottW58 but how was the soup?!
@CorTot
I will let you know when it’s done, these things take time
@ScottW58 while I’m waiting on the soup, 2016 Vintone chenin Blanc
@CorTot
Oh yeah the soup was great! Took me forever because I made an oxtail stock that I used for the broth, oh man was that good
Some CDR from Grocery outlet that I loved the first time, tonight it’s a bad cork.
So the back up is a 2016 little vineyards band blend live. Not a bad generic red blend for the money.
Last bottle of 2011 Noceto Sangiovese Riserva, another GO buy
2017 Fromm Riesling Spätlese, Marlborough, NZ
I’d been instructed to make Thai curry for molarchae’s friend who is in town. Who am I to argue?
@klezman If you’re talking about that Noceto, you got 6 from me over three years ago and it came from Wine of the Month out by Cortot.
WOW!
Gino’s east? Frozen or are you in Chi town?
If I were in town you would be the first to know yes frozen and shipped, but what a great pie it is!
@ScottW58 Yeah, We’ll be missing the Chicago pizza (Giordano’s is our “goto”) when we make the move to Missouri next week, but I’ve cut way back on it anyway since I went the keto route.
@Mark_L @ScottW58 not sure if Giordanos is the same chain as the one here in Vegas, but that is some good pizza!
@ScottW58 @TechnoViking Yes, Giordano’s has expanded outside of the Chicago area. https://giordanos.com/all-locations/ I don’t think I’ve had it elsewhere, but some chains that I have tried in other places did not have quite the same quality as their Chicago region locations. Hopefully Giordano’s takes steps to maintain their reputation.
Gruet blanc de noirs nv. Solid for the price point.
1998 Turley Grist Vineyard Zinfandel
Holy alcohol…16.2%! But it doesn’t really show except for a touch of bitterness. Surprisingly balanced acidity - Turley knows how to make them.
Wellington 2913 Estate, Sonoma County, Syrah.
2006 Nicholas Cole Camille with prime rib dinner.
@jmdavidson1
How is she holding up?
@ScottW58 Held on to it too long. Drinks like a nicely aged wine, but certainly past its prime. Hoping the 04’s and 06’s I have of the Reserve are still in their prime.
Yesterday, 2017 Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
Today, 2017 Banshee Pinot Noir Sonoma County
Yesterday, RandyZin with “cheater” vegetarian pizza. Cheater because we love the veggies on the Mediterranean veggie pizza (spinach, tomatoes, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives) but we add Italian sausage when we order it. Cuz that’s how we roll!

@klezman how’s the Wellington?
@rjquillin This was my first of 4. It’s good. Duh
NV Vino Noceto Rosso. Worked well with and without food.
2016 Metz Road Pinot Noir, Riverview Vineyard
@karenhynes I thought it was good, and ready to drink. Maybe my bottle was a little oxidized, maybe there some bottle variation, but the one I had was very good on pop 'n pour. For $11, very pleasing. If my other 2 bottles are as good, I’ll be ready to back up the truck if it comes around again.
2010 Jemrose Syrah Cardiac Cuvee Bennett Valley
Just opened a 1995 Dry Creek Vintner’s Selection Cabernet bought on one of the RPM tours (the last of 7). Perhaps some SoCalers may remember the story of cruelty that went with those bottles…
@TimothyB I think I need a refresh on that event.
Do I need to locate those bottles, or are they good for a while longer?
@rjquillin For me it followed the greater part of a bottle of 2009 OGP while I was doing the roast beef thing. So I will rely on Irmgard’s assessment: Initially had tannin’s with berry notes, was good, but got better after the bottle had sat uncorked for a few hours.
@TimothyB What of the cruelty…?
I kind of recall we had a bit of difficulty liberating some bottles. These those?

@ScottW58 You could invite me over for some Penfold’s Grange.
@TimothyB
Well I don’t have any of that but I would open up a bottle of vega sicilia Unico for you since you want to reach for the stars
@ScottW58 @TimothyB
Sounds like we need to get a black tie wine night going…
@klezman @TimothyB

If I recall correctly, this was inexpensive. Oddly,
you can still buy this for $18, and it might be worth
getting a couple, if you drank yours up.
