Wine cellar recs?
0I’m in need of a new wine cellar. Any recommendations on these three choices?
Used 400 bottle cellar with a whisperkool unit
Used 150 bottle eurocave
New 175 bottle wine enthusiast unit from Costco
Buying new from Costco has its draw – a warranty to fall back on – but the used market has some nice cabinets at much lower prices.
Anything I should be on the lookout for?

Found this Huuuuuge VinoTemp “750 bottle” wine cabinet in CL with a newish Wine~Mate cooling unit. I roughly counted one side and got 460 bottle total… Either way, for $450 what a steal. Seals well, held its temperature; now I have to wait 12 or so hours to plug it in again after having to transport this beast on its side. I’m super stoked.
@TechnoViking
Nice! but to be safe wait 24hrs to plug it in. JMHO
@ScottW58 thnx, your right, better safe than sorry.
@TechnoViking Well done. Can never have one too large. Not a fan of the metal dividers, but be careful with your hands and labels loading an unloading, especially for the rear bottle.
Easy…get the biggest one you can fit!
If you get a good deal on it then you will be many hundreds of dollars to the good no matter how it turns out. I got my 300 bottle wood cabinet from CL and it cost me about $450 including paying somebody to help me haul it. Even if the cooler goes (which it hasn’t for 6 years now) then even with replacing it I’m way ahead of the game.
@klezman Maybe i need to haggle more with the CL sellers, but everything down here is $700+. For me to rent a truck and provide enough six-packs for friends to help, is looking over $900.
I’ll probably end up with the CL unit with a replaceable chiller. That way when it goes, it’s easier to swap/repair.
If you are in the houston area I found a place could get deal on scratch and dent costco ones, got great deal on 180 bottle Wine Enthusiast costco model for $400
@raccoon81 that is a great deal! Unfortunately i’m in San Diego. Any chance the same shop operates out of Southern California?
@radiolysis I found it via Craigslist and it is a scratch and dent place for tons of stuff. Happens to be called altech metals. Might be similar place there.
@raccoon81 @radiolysis A couple; now, to remember the names…
GTM (get the money) in Santee is one, and I got a return from some place up in the Mira Mesa area off, iirc, Miramar Road. Still, best deal to date was from CL.
@rjquillin The beverage factory on miralani by chance? I went by there maybe two years ago and looked at the return/scratched section. Seemed decent for the Allavino line, I just wasn’t sold on the repair process. The salesperson said I would need to haul the whole thing back and forth if there was a problem – no house calls.
I think I’m sold on CL.
@raccoon81 I’m in east Texas but after the last RPM tour, I’m in desperate need of a cooler. Houston is about 4 hours from me and I haven’t found anything in the metroplex. Can you send me a link?

I
Found it on Craigslist but that is their site. They don’t have much listed but I came by and they had about 16 there. And it seems they have a regular supply of new ones.
I got the 188 bottle model that Costco sells for 1900 for $400 with 2 very minor marks on them. But they had like 8 other modes at the time.
@raccoon81 I’ll check it out. Thank you so much!
Also wondering what people’s thoughts are on size? Is it better to get two fridges - one for sparkling and one for reds? Or just get a large fridge that handles both.
@reesai can’t say for sure but we got a 188 bottle single zone, already almost full. We have both white and red in there.
Sad how quick they are full.
