About Alberti 154: “Named Alberti 154 as it is the address of the winery in the district of Lújan de Cuyo. Dating to 1925, it resides on what’s now on a residential street on the corner of 3 other founding wineries of this classic zone known as Drummond. A small-lot, gravity-flow, red wine production studio, Bodega Calle places great emphasis on gently crafting wines with regional distinction and grand personality.”

TASTING NOTES: “Garnet black color. Bright, attractive, creamy aromas of berry buttercream, roasted nuts, and caramelized smoked bacon with a satiny, bright, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smooth, amusing, medium-length caramel apple, delicate spice, toffee, and cedar finish with fine, silky tannins and light oak. An attractively juicy and easy drinking Malbec that is sure to please.” – BTI Beverage Testing Institute

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Literal Renaissance man Leon Battista Alberti.

That’s right, it’s the man, the myth, the legend! I didn’t actually know about him before, but searching Alberti, he’s the number one result. So let’s take a look?

An Italian, born in Genoa in 1404 to an exiled Florentine noble, he spent the first part of his life at a boarding school, followed by law studies in Bologna, followed by taking holy orders in Rome, followed by studying ancient Roman architecture. He became primarily known for his architecture, having done the facades of various churches and manors in Italy. In addition to that, however, he wrote various treatises on art and building, cryptography, and philosophy. He dabbled in painting, astronomy, and possibly music, though he wasn’t particularly skilled at them. He did it all! Did he do any of it particularly well? At least with the architecture and cryptography, seems like it.

He also claimed he could jump over a person’s head with his feet tied together… I’m calling bullshit on that one.
