TASTING NOTES:
“This alternative style of Pinot Gris is both deliciously aromatic and richly textured. Aromas of strawberries, pineapple and baking spices intermingle with mouth-filling peach and citrus fruit.” On the nose you may also find orange rind, raspberry, Campari, Aperol, and orange sherbet. On the tongue you may also find ripe apricot, blood orange, cranberry, baking spice, honey, and orange blossom. A mineral driven, honeyed finish, it is a savory and structured wine. (AbV 13.9%, pH 3.29, TA 6.7 g/L, RS 1%)

BARRELS: French oak and acacia, on the lees for four months before bottling.

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
I may be pretty familiar with different wines at this point, particularly those that can be found on the West Coast, I am certainly a novice in many other fields of alcohol. As such, I learned about Campari and Aperol after reading these tasting notes, and I thought maybe there are those who also don’t know their deal. So here we go. Campari was first produced in 1860 by Gaspare Campari, who mixed 60 different herbs, spices, barks, and fruit in an unknown combination and let it steep in a mix of both alcohol and water. I guess for extra flare, he also added carmine to make it a distinct red hue. The drink is considered a bitter aperitif, featuring as well in many cocktails and a soda in Italy. Similar to Campari, Aperol is another bitter aperitif from Italy that has a very similar taste and smell. It was first produced in 1919. However, while Campari tends to be an AbV of greater than 20%, Aperol is closer to 11%. Both Campari and Aperol are currently owned and produced by the same company, the Campari Group, named and originally headed by, as you might expect, the family of Gaspare Campari.

PAIRS WITH (winery recommended): Mezza platter, paella, grilled fish, NC BBQ, charred octopus, moules frites, pad Thai.
