About Armida Winery: “Armida Winery had a long and storied 30 years of operation in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley. Known for their exuberant and joyful Zinfandels, Armida always managed to balance making the highest quality wines while keeping a laid back feel to the winery that is so often lost in wine country. Over the years, Armida garnered many great scores as well as countless Gold and Double Gold Medals from wine fairs. The famed Maple Vineyard has been a mainstay and calling card for Armida for its entire operation, and this Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel bottling is based on fruit from these gnarly old vines. In 2023, the winery was sold and the new ownership decided it was time for a new name and refresh, and so, the story of Armida is coming to a close. As it comes to a close, we are excited to share this last chapter of delicious Zinfandel with you.”

TASTING NOTES: “Dark cherry hues with brash and seductive blackberry, plum, and smoky oak aromas. Bold, rich flavors of black-cherry jam, raspberry, and cola gives way to a more subtle finish of mocha and anise. A muscular yet balanced wine finishing long, in a warm blanket of vanilla spice and oak.”

2021 - AbV 14.9%, pH 3.43, TA 6.6 g/L, RS 1.0 g/L

VARIETALS: 90% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah

BARRELS: 10 months in a mix of American, Hungarian, and French oak.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Arrivederci, as we bid arrivederci to Armida.

An Italian way to say goodbye. As with many long words, they tend to be made of smaller words mashed together. In this case, you start with “a-“ which means “to” and rivederci or rivedersi (the infinitive version). The -rivederci incorporates “ri-“ like the English “re-“ and “vedersi,” which breaks down further to “vedere” meaning “to see” and “si” meaning “one another.” Put it all together and you get, “We’ll see each other again.”

So arrivederci, Armida, perhaps we’ll see you again under a different name.
