Nestled in a valley west of Sebastopol, California, Baker Lane Vineyards utilizes the cool Pacific Ocean breeze to its fullest. Specializing in Syrah and Viognier (and Pinot Noir nearby), they claim to have optimal conditions for these grapes, and all the evidence seems to support that claim. Their farm, RoadsEnd Farm, not only grows grapes but a diverse variety of other fruits and plant life. With agricultural exploration, Baker Lane Vineyards has confidently learned and grown in their biodiverse environment for the last 13 years.

TASTING NOTES:
2014 - “While this 2014 possesses familiar flavor details from previous years (a hint of 2008’s depth, the lush fruit core of 2009, the elegance and focus of 2012), the completeness of it dazzles. The 10th harvest seems to have it all, and it feels like a breakthrough pleasure to share the fruit of our efforts: brilliant blue/violet hued, deep dark fruit notes with a complex spice element, and pleasantly chewy tannins. It’s built for the long haul but is all enticingly filled with youthful charm.” (AbV 13%)

2017 - “The fact is that this may be the most complete young wine that we’ve ever made, as its deep core of blue and black fruits aromatics and palate seem engaged in a dynamic pas de deux with its ample tannic/acid armature. I’m sure that it will age wonderfully for many years to come. I’m equally sure that it’s as impressive and pleasing in its youth as any wine we’ve ever released.” (AbV 13.1%)

2018 - “The vinous denouement of this fortuitous winegrowing narrative has a warm violet robe that confirms its lush, supple expression of ripe berries, and hints of Asian spice and lightly smoked meat. It’s youthful but impressively expressive nose leads to a lively, textured mouthfeel whose integrated tannin and acid elements lifts the palate and propels it forward with grace and balance.” (AbV 13.5%)

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Originally I thought the phrase a “baker’s dozen” referred to bakers making an extra in each batch of baked goods to ensure the batch turned out alright, but apparently it actually began as a way for bakers to avoid being penalized for selling underweight bread. Seriously, in the 1200’s there was a law in England in order to regulate the price of bread in proportion to wheat. If you sold a dozen loaves and it was underweight, you literally faced some potentially steep legal repercussions.
