In mountain biking, there are many features used on trails to spice things up. You’ll have the expected, like ramps and bridges, but you’ll also have things like berms. Berms are banked corners that curve with the trail. Because they are banked, the rider can both turn smoothly and maintain their speed while turning. For safety, a berm must go up to a point where it tapers properly back onto the trail, basically creating a perfect curve. If it doesn’t, you run the risk of having people go flying sideways off them.
