TASTING NOTES: “The redoubtable Beeswax Vineyard in the Arroyo Seco of Monterey county has the very singular habit of producing white grapes all of which coincidentally enough express the unique scent of …well, beeswax. Along with beeswax, one apprehends the rather discreet scent of white flowers and perhaps pineapple. But while the scent of Picpoul is subtle, one is forcefully struck by the wine’s bracing acidity and its unique savoriness (who’s you-mami?); there is a discernible quality of brininess that makes this wine an absolutely perfect match for all manner of nutriment of the crustacean and molluscan variety." THAT REMINDS ME OF: Picross.

Well, specifically Picross is the video game version, but you may know it as a Nonogram, Pic-a-Pix, or perhaps Griddlers?

Basically you have a grid, and next to each row and column is a series of numbers. These numbers can only ever add up to however many spaces are in that row or column or less, never more. They are how many squares need to be filled in. If there are multiple numbers, this means there are spaces between the filled in portions. For instance, if a row has the number 3 next to it, three squares adjacent to each other need to be filled in. If a row has 1 1 1 next to it, three individual but non-adjacent squares need to be filled in. Once you puzzle it all out, you get a picture.

Nonograms were named after Japanese editor Non Ishida, one of the people credited with designing the puzzle. Not to be confused with a nine-pointed polygon known as a nonagram.
