TASTING NOTES:
“Medium violet color. Roasted aromas and flavors of dark chocolate coated berries and nuts, caramelized yams, mocha creme brulee, and pepper on fresh herbs with a supple, bright, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smooth, interesting, medium-long berry cobbler a la mode, coffee gelato, orange blossom water, and nut skin finish with soft, silky tannins and light oak. A supple and captivating indigenous Bulgarian red that delights with appealing brushstrokes of distinctive flavors.” -Tastings.com (AbV 14.5%)

So I never really did a deep dive into Galileo before, but I am happy to report that he is indeed worth the hype. Let’s focus on the telescope though. A man named Hans Lippershey tried to patent it up in the Netherlands, so descriptions of the device started to spread around some academic circles. It would happen to catch Galileo’s ear, and, fascinated, he immediately began working on his own. According to him, he’d figured out how it worked as soon as he got home and had his own made by the next day. Starting at 3x magnification, he eventually managed to get it to 30x! His observations of moons, planets, and stars were widely acclaimed, but they gradually put something into perspective that would turn into a massive pain in the ass for him. The accepted view at the time, endorsed by the church, was still geocentrism. They very much did not appreciate heliocentric views, so there was largely a wishy-washy, in-between, both-sides type thing going on to not get on their bad side. The evidence kept stacking up, however, and he was compelled to share it. This would lead to his being put under house arrest by the Roman Inquisition until his death.
