TASTING NOTES: “The 2022 Keller Estate Casa Chardonnay is light in straw color with a nose of delicate pineapple and vanilla. Flavors express notes of citrus and orange blossom that grace the palate with flavors and textures of crème brûlée. Finishes clean and wanting for more.” (AbV 14.3%, pH 3.7)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Gap.

Founded in 1969 by real estate broker Don Fisher and his wife Doris by striking a deal with Levi Strauss president Walter Haas Jr., The Gap originally existed as Levi’s-only enterprise. The idea was to have a store for Levi’s that would never run out of sizes and colors, having a constant supply from the manufacturer. The name was based on the concept of the “generation gap,” reflected in the marketing style and inclusion of LP records among the merchandise to attract the youth. Five years later, they started selling their own private label merchandise as well.

In 1983, they acquired Banana Republic, which originally sold safari-themed clothes, only to transform it into an upscale store a few years later. They made Old Navy in 1994 as a value chain as well. They lastly acquired Athleta in 2008, an athletic apparel brand.
