About Center of Effort
An Edna Valley artisan winery utilizing Jim Lawrence’s estate from when they were the Lawrence Family Winery, Center of Effort is owned today by Bill and Cheryl Swanson. Named after the area on a sail where all force is concentrated, the Swansons similarly combine artistic winemaking, cultivated skills, and a passion for excellence to create timeless wines that they describe as “magic in the bottle.”

“Bright and refreshing with fresh Meyer-lemon zest, ripe orange and shaved coconut on the nose. Rich beautiful texture and flavors of apple and pastry crust.” (AbV 14.2%, pH 3.36, TA 7.8 g/L)

In 1946, the CDC was created as the Communicable Disease Center. It wasn’t until 1970 that it became the Center for Disease Control. Their goal is to protect public health and safety in both the US and internationally, but reading some of the names under their umbrella is a fun time by itself. In 1947, they incorporated the Public Health Service Plague Laboratory into their organization. In 1961, they gained the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. In 1983, they established a Violence Epidemiology Branch. Terrifying and incredible.
