TASTING NOTES: “Luxuriously dark and concentrated, this wine displays alluring aromas of black cherry, dark plum, roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate, as well as notes of clove, fresh herbs and baking spices. On the palate, it is beautifully lush and layered, with bright, underlying energy and a robust mountain structure that frames generous flavors of boysenberry and cassis, with hints of violet, anise, cinnamon and sweet oak emerging throughout a long, dramatic finish.” (AbV 14.7%, pH 3.63, TA 0.59 g/100mL)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The various chapel levels that pop up in almost every Castlevania game.

If you aren’t familiar, Castlevania games generally take place inside and/or around Dracula’s castle. Originally released for the NES in 1986, entries to the series came out pretty regularly up until 2008, only recently getting a chance at new releases off the back of successful Netflix series.

You might wonder, “Why does Dracula’s castle have a chapel in it?” To which I have to say, I do not know. They’re full of the usual religious paraphernalia and iconography, stained glass windows and crosses and such. They rarely look like the sort of place someone would actively use as a chapel, though, janky Metroidvania geometry aside. Besides that, they are infested with animated skeletons, ghosts, bats, demons, the iconic Flea Men (small, hunchbacked, hopping enemies), were-bears (you heard me), were-panthers (of course), were-jaguars (why not), the Medusa, the disembodied flying heads of many Medusas (Medusi?), and an asshole named Dmitri.
