TASTING NOTES: “This lovely wine is a tribute to the Santa Lucia Highlands featuring both the earthy and fruit flavors that this region is so well known for. It opens with dark cherry, plum and raspberry with beautifully balanced structure. It finishes with a hint of vanilla and clove on the long finish.

The well-balanced earth and fruit in this wine make it ideal for pairing with foods with layers of flavors.” (AbV 14.1%, pH 3.67, TA 6.4 g/L, RS 0.4 g/L)

VARIETALS: 100% Pinot Noir.

BARRELS: 10 months in French oak.

PAIRS WITH: Grilled pork tenderloin, roast turkey, creamy mushroom pasta or BBQ ribs.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Crew cuts.

Did you know a crew cut is considered a pompadour? I guess the only quality a pompadour really requires is for the hair to be upswept away from the forehead. Anyway, a crew cut is a particularly short instance of that. In other languages, it was likened to a brush’s bristles or a hedgehog. The style became particularly popular among college men in the 20’s and 30’s, which contributed to the term “crew cut” coming about. Most likely, a crew cut was associated with collegiate rowing teams, also known as crew teams. It spread even further with World War II, becoming a default army cut.
