Jean Bernard Léon Foucault is probably best known for his pendulum that demonstrated the diurnal rotation of the Earth. They’re those big pendulums you find suspended from the ceiling that rock back and forth yet knock different dominos over throughout the day. You know the ones. Foucault also managed to take an early measurement of the speed of light, all the way back in 1850. Plus, he’s credited with naming the gyroscope. Cool dude.
