About Darling Wines: “Today, Darling Wines produces Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay sourced from coastal vineyards in western Sonoma County, Marin County, Anderson Valley, and Mendocino Ridge. The goal is to produce wines with character and energy that showcase purity and site through transparent winemaking. With this goal in mind there is minimal handling from grape to bottle, restrained use of sulphur; in most cases, no synthetic additives or perfecting agents, fining or filtration, in an attempt to produce the most honest wine possible.”

My Darling

TASTING NOTES: “The 2022 North Coast Syrah is an incredibly aromatic and textural expression of this grape, medium weight with a lovely balance of fruit and savory, which the best examples of this Rhone varietal always showcase. Sourced from two organically farmed vineyards, one high stop Mendocino Ridge at 2,200 feet above sea level and one in the heart of the Russian River Valley; both dry farmed.“ (AbV 11.7%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: “Skip to My Lou, My Darling.”

You probably are familiar. American folk song from the 1800’s. Has a couple variants, but all of them tend to involve repeating those words in the title several times. The associated “dance” has someone stand in the middle of a circle of other people and select a partner from among them. They will skip around the circle together and then return to the opening, where the partner moves to the center and the original person takes their place in the circle (or something like that). The new person in the center picks another partner, they skip around, and it repeats like that.

I was wondering what “Lou” exactly, though. Was it a name? Was it a place? Was it the bathroom? Not entirely sure.
