Papua New Guinea is an interesting place. For example, it is the most linguistically diverse country in the world, with a total of 840 spoken languages. Of those, 820 are indigenous. One of these many languages is Binumarien, or Afaqinna ufa.

The Binumarien people of villages in the Eastern Highlands Province speak a language by the same name, Binumarien. In 1958, the number of Binumariens fell to only 111 due to outbreaks of malaria and other disease. Luckily, they recovered to 1,000+ individuals over several decades, preserving both their language and culture.
