TASTING NOTES:
70A - “Light to medium garnet in color, this tank sample smells of candied raspberries. In the mouth, bright raspberry pastille fruit is juicy and offers a hint of herbs. Excellent acidity. Very tasty.” (AbV 13.6%)

70B - “Light to medium garnet in the glass, this tank sample smells of raspberry and red currant. In the mouth, red currant and prickly pear jam flavors are bright and juicy. Fantastic acidity.” (AbV 13.4%)

70C - “Light to medium garnet in color, this tank sample smells of raspberry and herbs. In the mouth, raspberry and sour cherry flavors have fleecier more muscular tannins than this wine’s peers. Nice acidity and length.” (AbV 13.3%)

70D - “Light to medium garnet in color, this tank sample smells of juicy sour cherry and raspberry fruit. Wonderfully bright, mouthwatering acidity lingers long with citrus peel and a touch of watermelon. Pretty killer stuff I’d drink a bottle of in a heartbeat.” (AbV 13.3%)

70A in 5% new French Oak, 10% second fill, 85% neutral French oak. 70B in 5% new French Oak, 15% second fill, 80% neutral French oak. 70C in 85% neutral French oak, 15% second fill French oak. 70D in 80% neutral French oak, 20% second fill French oak.

 “N.70 2019 Chehelem Mountain Pinot Noir Blends A, B, C, D. These wines are cracking open nicely. Super elegant and pretty, they will continue to evolve and gain complexity but they are drinking well now with a 24-hour decant. Of course, those of you with the patience to cellar these for a few more years will be nicely rewarded.”

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Atomic number 70 on the periodic table is Ytterbium, with the symbol Yb. One of a series of rare-earth metals, a Swiss chemist managed to pull a Ytterbium compound from an existing rare compound called erbia. Though he didn’t isolate the element, a team of chemists in 1907 managed to do so, and they decided to honor the name the Swiss chemist provided for the once theoretical element. There are few commercial uses for it, but it’s great for high-stability atomic clocks.
