TASTING NOTES: “Across California, 2016 proved to be another ideal harvest. The growing season started early, and ended with warm days that gave us perfectly ripened grapes of wonderful concentration, good balance and refined quality.“

Ripe currant, fresh Bing cherry, and dark plum with a hint of sage. A full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with soft tannins, a velvety mouthfeel and a long, lingering finish. (AbV 13.9%)

BARRELS: 12 months in French and American oak.

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Rutherfordium, believe it or not, is element 104, named after physicist Ernest Rutherford!

Except it wasn’t always rutherfordium. See, scientists in the Soviet Union and in the US discovered it in the 1960’s. And if you know anything about the US and the Soviet Union, they did not get along very well. So the US group pushed for the name rutherfordium and the Soviet group pushed for kurchatovium. DECADES later, in 1992, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry assessed both claims and decided the discovery should be shared. Rather than use one name or the other for 104, they went with meitnerium. There was pushback over the next two years. In ’94, they changed it to dubnium, named after the location in Russia the Soviets discovered it. The Americans called it rutherfordium anyway. In ’95, IUPAC reaffirmed to everyone it was still dubnium. Two more years pass. IUPAC decides in ’97, no, it will be rutherfordium.
