THAT REMINDS ME OF: Tigger, from A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard’s Winnie-the-Pooh series.

The first Winnie-the-Pooh collection of stories was published in 1926, containing stories adapted from Milne’s previous publications and new material. Winnie and friends, including Tigger, were based specifically on the various toys of Milne’s son, Christopher Robin Milne. He put them in the Hundred Acre Wood, based on a location known as the Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest.

Tigger wouldn’t show up until the sequel, The House at Pooh Corner, in the second chapter. Tigger is like a tiger, but not really. An enthusiastic friend who claims to like many things, but bouncing most of all. His first appearance has him asking for food, saying he likes everything, and subsequently disliking the various foods the other creatures of the woods have been eating. Eventually it is discovered he enjoys malt extract, of all things, given to him by Kanga. While it sounds weird now, it was apparently a popular supplement given to children in England around the same time the books were written. Tigger then lives with Kanga and Roo and becomes friends with the others, though he can cause trouble for Rabbit and Eeyore.
