TASTING NOTES: “A deep straw-yellow color with golden reflections. In the nose it presents a fine but penetrating bouquet: notes of white flowers and exotic fruits, accompanied by buttery and vanilla nuances. In the mouth, it is elegant with a pleasant, lingering structure that accompanies it toward a soft, yet flavorsome finish.” (AbV 13.7%)

Imagine your boss decided one day he was gonna become a literal hermit. Hundreds of miles away. In Egypt. And you followed him.

Everyone, meet Saint Viator of Lyons. Was it just coincidence that “viator” translates from Latin to mean traveller/wayfarer, or did that play into how he was named? I honestly can’t quite tell. The Romans used Viator as a title for people delivering court summons, so maybe it was passed down in his family or something. Anyway, he was a member of the clergy at the Lyon Cathedral under Bishop Justus of Lyons. After a man ran through a crowd of people swinging a sword, injuring and killing several, that man tried to claim sanctuary in the cathedral. Justus at first tried to honor that, but the mob of people wanting to bring this guy to justice said they would totally give the murderer a fair trial. Taking their word, he turned him over, after which they immediately executed him. Feeling some kind of way about the whole affair, Justus decided he was just gonna leave and devote himself to asceticism in the desert. And Viator just kinda followed him there. They did their ascetic thing for about 8 years before dying and both would later be sainted.
