TASTING NOTES:
Barbera - “We proudly offer this medium-bodied, sophisticated wine, inspired by the rich, old-world heritage of this legendary local family. Silky and velvety in texture, vibrant flavors of ripe fruit and raspberries fill the palate. Complimented by a long lasting structured finish with subtle hints of oak.” (AbV 15%, pH 3.7, TA 0.61 g/100mL)

Carignan - “We proudly offer this full-bodied, sophisticated wine, inspired by the rich, old-world heritage of this legendary local family. Aromas of blackberry, plum, and a hint of tobacco complement dark fruit flavors of blackcurrant with a touch of chocolate, ending in a savory long lasting finish.” (AbV 15%, pH 3.58, TA 0.65 g/100mL)

Zinfandel - “There’s something magical about head pruned, dry farmed, old vine zinfandel. The wines are bold, beautiful, dense and truly express the terroir. This is a full bodied Zinfandel that shows the power of Mendocino’s Talmage bench. It’s deep color lends aromas of dark fruit and tobacco to the nose. The balance between tannins and acid allow this wine to pair beautifully with a variety of meats, or even just a plate of cheese.” (AbV 15%, pH 3.75, TA 0.62 g/100mL)

BARRELS: 18-20 months in French oak, <30% new.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Genies.

The genie or djinn is a typically invisible magical being, though they can be seen and change shapes if they wish. Djinn are neither inherently good or evil, but they have the capacity for either and are subject to the same judgment by God that a human would be. It was believed that djinn often occupied dark and desolate places, much like a ghost or demon. Not inherently harmful, though, they would at times befriend or even fall in love with humans. They mostly became associated with lamps due to stories like Aladdin’s, but they aren’t all lamp-bound.

The name genie itself was the anglicization chosen when Thousand and One Nights was translated into French and English, as it sounded similar, and there existed a spiritual being called a genius or genii in Roman mythology.
