TASTING NOTES: “The 2020 Giapoza Cabernet Sauvignon packs a punch from the start, with generous aromas of ripe wild blackberries, black plum, freshly brewed espresso and cocoa powder. In the mouth the wine is broadly structured with ample flavors of milk chocolate covered cherries, a hint of violets, caramel and roasted coffee.” (AbV 13.5%)

VARIETALS: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Syrah

BARRELS: 18 months in French oak.

PAIRS WITH: BBQ pork ribs with spicy BBQ sauce, baked beans, and corn on the cob.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: 𒀭𒅆𒊒𒍪𒍪! I mean, Pazuzu!

You might know him from The Exorcist 2, but Pazuzu is an old Mesopotamian entity. Spirit, demon, god? All of the above. He is lord of the southwestern wind, which seems oddly specific, and the wind demons.

While he seems like a nasty guy, he’s actually pretty useful. He is rather destructive, but it turns out the other demons think so too. He parties too hardy for them. Taking advantage of this, people would wear carved figures or amulets of his hideous visage as a way to ward off other evil. These charms were particularly given to expectant mothers. There was another demon known as Lamashtu that liked to kill babies in the womb. Just slap a Pazuzu charm on a pregnant woman like the guy in the Flex Tape infomercial and boom, safe from Lamashtu.
