Dry-Bones Sparklers

TASTING NOTES:
Blanc de Blancs - “Gruet Sauvage NV is a bone-dry sparkler, pale straw in color with a delicate but persistent mousse. The aromas of bright mineral and citrus notes tickle the nose followed by touches of green apple, lemon and grapefruit. The finish is structured, flavorful and long.” (AbV 12%, pH 3.2, TA 7.2 g/L)

Rosé - “With zero dosage, Sauvage Rosé’s vibrant fruit flavors of wild strawberry and a hint of cherry really shine on the nose and palate and are complemented by bright acidity.

Good effervescence with beautiful pink hue.” (AbV 12.5%, pH 3.20, TA 7.2 g/L, RS 3.2 g/L)

VARIETALS: Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay, Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir.

BARRELS: 18 - 24 months sur lees.

PAIRS WITH: Pair the Blanc de Blancs with oysters, sushi and cream sauces.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Dry Bones.

I’ve talked about good old Dry Bones here before. About 5 years ago, actually. It was just a general description of the Super Mario Bros. enemy, though, and our beautiful boy(?) Bones is more than that.

That’s right, this often mindless, generic Koopa Troopa skeleton has been a bit of a fan favorite. An underrated dark horse. While Dry Bones primarily appears as an enemy to jump on, it’s also been a playable character in quite a few Mario sports, party, and kart entries. Sometimes they’ll be allies or non-playable characters in the various roleplaying games too, populating towns and offering info.

Sometimes they can speak, other times they’re silent, and other times they make clacking noises which are interpreted as words. All around, they’re fun guys. Not to be confused with the Goombas, which are fungi.
