Conflict

TASTING NOTES: A dense ruby color in the glass. Dark cherry, fig, clove, cinnamon, and granite on the nose. Dark cherry, cocoa nibs and baking spices on the palate. Bold and concentrated fruit. Velvety, structured mid-palate with refined tannins. (AbV 15.0%, pH 4.1, TA 5.1 g/L, RS 0.22 g/L)

VARIETALS: 60% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec, 3% Cabernet Franc.

BARRELS: 18 months in French oak, 50% new.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Conflict, a 1945 Warner Bros. film where apparently Jack Warner had to twist Humphrey Bogart’s arm to get him to take the lead role.

Story centers around Richard and Kathryn Mason, a couple with hidden marital issues, particularly that Richard is likely in love with Kathryn’s sister Evelyn. After a party hosted by their friend Dr. Hamilton, Kathryn provokes Richard during the drive home, causing a car crash where Richard breaks his leg.

Richard then continues to act as though his leg is broken even after it heals, deemed to be a psychological issue, and decides not to take a trip to the mountains with his wife suggested by his physician Dr. Grant. Kathryn decides to go anyway, and she asks Dr. Hamilton to check on Richard while she’s gone. After blocking a mountain road with his own car, however, Richard forces Kathryn to stop, where he presumably kills her and sends her car down the side of the mountain. He manages to get home and set up some alibis, but is seemingly haunted and/or taunted by Kathryn, who just might have survived somehow…
