About Miller Family Wine Company
“The Miller family’s California farming and ranching legacy dates to back to 1871, when William and Francis Broome moved from England to the West Coast of California and began farming in southern Ventura County. The farming legacy passed down to William Broome’s granddaughter Elizabeth, and following her marriage to Robert Miller in 1942, the Miller Family became the steward of the farming business. In 1973, the Miller family developed a vineyard in the Paso Robles highlands and named it French Camp for the Basque shepherds who once populated the area. The area had a special allure thanks to the largest day/night temperature swings, mineral rich soils and highest elevations in the regions.”

Well, golly gosh gee willikers! Are you familiar with the term “minced oath?” You don’t exactly put it on a bed of rice and serve it for supper. An oath is basically the act of swearing, right? And swearing is another way to say cursing/cussing. SO, a minced oath must be chopping up a swear! It’s probably not that exact chain of logic, but that is indeed what a minced oath is. Since using the Lord’s name in vain has been frowned upon for centuries, but people can’t resist invoking it, can they. For the sake of sensitive ears and I guess the expectation that swapping the words will somehow absolve you of your transgression, people came up with other things to say. Gee and jeez for Jesus. Dang and darn for damn. Gosh for God. Then what is gee willikers?The phrase may have started out as geewillikens or jeewillikens, which in turn might have been a minced oath of Jerusalem. In the 19th century and early 20th, Jerusalem could be an exclamation similar to Jesus and such. In fact, Jerusalem itself might’ve been a minced oath of Jesus that changed or became considered too holy to use in replacement. A wild ride to reach a phrase nobody even really uses anymore.
