About Kelley & Young Wines: “Started in 2006 by husband-and-wife team Jim Young and Kathleen Kelley Young, Kelley & Young Wines is a boutique winery located in the Alexander Valley region of Northern California’s Sonoma County wine country. Kelley & Young’s mission has always been to share Jim and Kathleen’s passion for good food and exceptional win, but, in January 2021, Kathleen passed away at the age of 63 after a 4-plus-year battle with cancer. To honor their mother, Kathleen’s daughters, Madeline and Courtney, are continuing her legacy by helping Jim bring Kelley & Young wines to the world while helping raise money for cancer research through a partnership with the American Cancer Society.”

TASTING NOTES:
Malbec - “This is a big, deep, dense, and structured wine with dominant aromas of black currant and plum with a touch of spicy cigar box. Its extra-long finish will make you fall in love and beg for more.” (AbV 15.5%)

Zinfandel - “On the nose, the wine opens with notes of dark cherry, black berries and bitter-sweet chocolate followed by full and rich flavors of dark cherry and black berries. It has an extra-long finish of bittersweet chocolate and just a bit of spice on the finish.” (AbV 15.8%)

VARIETALS: The Zinfandel is 96% Zinfandel, 4% Petite Sirah. The Malbec is 100% Malbec.

BARRELS: French Oak, 30% - 40% new.

PAIRS WITH: The Zinfandel with roast beef, pork, lamb, or duck, as well as with aged cheeses, dried fruits, and nuts. The Malbec with pork loin, St. Louis pork ribs, lean brisket, duck, roast beef, and wild game.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Young and the Restless. Or not, because I know nothing about this show. So I read a bit about it.

Originally broadcast in 1973 on CBS, the show has been going ever since. Somehow. And as of 2022, it was the highest-rated daytime drama for 34 years. Originally aired as 30-minute episodes five days a week, they changed to hour-long ones in the 80’s.

The show first focused on two families, the rich Fosters and the poor Brooks. Then in the early 80’s, given that it’d been about a decade of constant broadcast, a lot of the original people had left. So, the families changed. It became the Abbotts and the Williamses. Then even more families got introduced over time. However, one character endured through everything: Jill Foster Abbott. Although, she’s been portrayed by multiple actresses at this point.
