TASTING NOTES: ”Our 2023 dry Muscat Canelli is a crisp white wine that is highly aromatic with beguiling tropical and floral notes. The aromatics of this wine are always so special – one sniff and you’ll fall in love. Very pale straw in color with bold aromas of tropical fruit, lychee, pineapple, guava and white peach. Flavors match the aromas, with a touch of jasmine and green-apple like acidity in the finish.“ (AbV 13.5%, pH 3.45, TA 7.15 g/L, RS 0.5%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Bottle Shock.

A 2008 film about the “Judgment of Paris,” a 1976 wine competition where a California wine beat out French wines. So I saw the thing about Alan Rickman remarking “it was the most delicious thing ever to pass through his lips,” along with the mention of Bottle Shock, and thought, huh, that seems random. At first.

Bottle Shock centers around sommelier Steven Spurrier hosting a competition in Paris specifically to introduce the French to wines outside France, featuring chardonnay from Chateau Montelena in the Napa Valley. That chardonnay is the California wine that wins. Now, the proprietor of Chateau Montelena was a man named Jim Barrett… wait, that name sounds familiar. And his son Bo Barrett is also a major character in the film. And Bo would get married to… Heidi Peterson! It’s all coming together!

Or maybe Alan just had Moscato Azul at some point. I don’t actually know.
