TASTING NOTES: “Inviting aromas of cedar and black pepper. Fresh boysenberry and raspberry fruit with an underlying hint of watermelon. Has a smooth and juicy entry, a pleasing middle, and concludes with an even and balanced finish. THAT REMINDS ME OF: Chords.

What is a chord? Chords are a minimum of three notes of different pitches played simultaneously. Two notes of different pitches played simultaneously is instead called an interval, identified by the amount of pitches counted between the two being played. For example, a Perfect 5th is made of a root note and another note that is five whole-steps above it. You may recognize the sound of a Perfect 5th as what people call a “power chord” in rock music. Ironic, because it’s an interval and not a chord. The most basic chord in Western music is the triad, consisting of a root, a note that is a 3rd above the root, and a note that is a 5th above the root. Now you know a bit of music theory.
