TASTING NOTES: “Our Pinot Noir Rosé exhibits fresh aromas of strawberry, cherry and light notes of rose petal. Crisp flavors of red apple and raspberry are accompanied by a refreshing yet lingering finish, with hints of fresh herbs.” (AbV 13.5%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Pebbles.

Pebble is actually somewhat of an interesting word. It’s one of those words that seemingly just appears out of nowhere. Originally, in Old English, you’d see it written out like papol, or pæbbel, or pyppel, and usually with a -stan added. Eventually it became more standardized as pibel or pibleston before reaching its final form of pebble. The thing is, nothing came before those Old English versions. You could maybe argue it’s related to the Latin word for pimple/pustule papula, but there really is no clear link. People just started calling tiny rocks pyppels or papols, I guess?

Similarly, cobble and cobblestone as a term originated in English in the same time frame. Unlike pebble, however, you can trace cobble back to Proto-Germanic with their word for a lump or round object kubb.
