TASTING NOTES:
Block 13 - “Our Block 13 Zinfandel shows a different side of the grape. Medium bodied, the aromas of wild berries and baking spices take off and then introduce polished flavors of raspberries, pomegranate, and touches of licorice and pepper. Smooth tannins lace the finish and a toasty touch of oak frames the wine nicely.” (AbV 14%, pH 3.63, TA 0.570 g/100mL)

Mother Clone - “Our Mother Clone is a classic ‘Dry Creek’ Zinfandel with spicy aromas of cinnamon and white pepper along with red berries and a touch of vanilla. Black cherry flavors blend with vanilla, licorice, and warm baking spices with balanced acidity. The berry-spice combination, so typical of Dry Creek Zin, includes a round peppery finish which is a hallmark of our style. Enjoy now or cellar for three to five years.” (AbV 15%, pH 3.71, TA 0.580 g/100mL)

VARIETALS: 100% Zinfandel in Block 13, but Mother Clone has 12% Petite Sirah sprinkled in for a little extra oomph.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: “Back in Black” the song, or Back in Black the album.

Either way, “Back in Black” was AC/DC’s tribute to their late singer, Bon Scott, who passed away in 1980. Replaced with Brian Johnson, the band wanted something to honor Scott, and it seems like they knocked it out of the park. At least in terms of the vibes. The lyrics are a little… repetitive and nonsensical at points, but there is a theme of “not even death can stop me” throughout it. And hey, it’s got the most iconic opening riff ever.
